Your hosts are Jess and Nate: We have recently returned to Alaska after having been out of state 10+ years, having traveled the world, and finally realizing there is no place like home—especially when your home is Alaska. While we both have our professional day jobs, we love to spend our free time enjoying the cultural opportunities that abound in the Anchorage area and exploring the outdoors-- whether kayaking, hiking, fishing, running, biking, or cross-country skiing. Nate was born and raised in Anchorage and, as a sometimes musician, is tuned into the local music scene. Jess grew up in Eagle River after her dad moved her family up to Alaska to try his luck as a bush pilot. She worked her way through college as a professional tour guide on the Alaska Railroad and later as a tour director leading groups through Alaska and the Yukon Territory of Canada.
While the private apartment is attached to our home, we respect your privacy and leave you to your own devices unless you have questions or concerns-- we are available by phone.
We welcome all visitors: We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, national origin, creed, gender, or sexual orientation.

Enjoyed our stay very much. We were here to help our son move into the base. The Spruce Roost is convenient to both the base and downtown. It was great to kick back in the evenings in a homey environment. We will definitely keep you in mind for future trips.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This was a great apartment in a quiet neighborhood; but just blocks from great restaurants, the coastal trail and Westchester Lagoon. Walking distance from one of the best restaurants in Anchorage Bear Tooth. Nate and Jess had the unit prepared immaculately with amazing attention to detail. Paper products, sun block, bug spray, two bicycles that we used several days, welcome letter with basic information about the place and the Internet password, binder full of local food menus. It was amazing how much thought went into making the unit ready for out of town guests to enjoy. This was a working vacation for me and the Internet in the unit and cellular coverage from ATT was great at this location. I hope you enjoy as much as we did.Did you find this review helpful? Thank you both so much. Spending this past winter at the Spruce Roost has been such a wonderful experience. You guys did such a sweet job putting the Spruce Roost together, down to the last detail. I am really going to miss the bed. Easily the most comfortable bed I have slept in. I am sad to leave but will choose to look forward to the next opportunity I get to spond at the Spruce Roost. Whenever I am in need of a place to stay in Anchorage, I hope you will be available. Thank you again. Until the next time, be well and have a great 2012 summer.Did you find this review helpful? I spent about a week in this lovely separate apartment in Jess and Nate's house. They were wonderful hosts and definitely know the area well, despite having lived out of state for many years. In addition to being my hosts, therefore, they were able to provide ideas of what to see and where to go. In addition the rental was clean, comfortable and in a neighborhood of single family homes.Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway, adventure seekers, people with disabilities.
Owner response: So glad to hear you enjoyed your stay and we hope to have you come again.

This little place was absolutely amazing! The best vacation rental we've ever stayed in with the beautiful view of greenery out the window, the ultra-comfy bed, the things provided to do, and all the finishing touches. Nate and Jess, you truly made this a home away from home.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 5/5

What a charming spot! It has the flavor of being in the Alaskan countryside but is right in the heart of a lively and colorful Anchorage neighborhood that has lots to do, with nightlife and good restaurants! It was impeccably clean and newly decorated. I loved the special touches such as cozy bathrobes and slippers to use during my stay. My week vacation was in the Alaskan winter time near the holidays, and tasteful holiday decor added to the charm. The hosts are gracious and helpful. I highly recommend this lovely vacation location. The cross country ski trails are amazing, and downtown Anchorage has lots to do in any season.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.
Owner response: Thank you for your kind words. We were happy to have you and very pleased to see you'll be staying with us again this June.
