Welcome to the Sleepy Hollow Schoolhouse and its faithful companion, the Sleepy Hollow Cabin, both landmarks in this neck of woods. While the Schoolhouse does indeed have a belfry and a 19th century bell that can be rung from inside the house, the interior layout is designed for a vacation retreat. The layout features three large (16’ X 16’) bedrooms; each bedroom has its own 10’ X 10’ bathroom; and, each bathroom has its own claw-foot bath tub and separate tiled shower. The downstairs bedroom has a queen-size log bed; the two upstairs bedrooms have antique brass full-size beds.
Other features of the house include a 30’ X 16’ common area which combines living room, dining area, and kitchen. Please refer to photos for details.
The downstairs has 10’ high ceilings and upstairs 9’; every wall in the house has a natural lime plaster veneer “painted” with a natural lime wash. The downstairs hardwood flooring, dining table and kitchen cabinets are of reclaimed wood salvaged from structures originally built more than 100 years ago.
In short this schoolhouse was built “old-school”.
NOW FOR THE CABIN--- While it is small it has all essential amenities including a loft with full-sized bed. It is according to many “the sweetest little cabin” they’ve ever seen. The photos speak for themselves.
IDEAL LOCATION--- Two minutes to Windells; 10 minutes to Welches and Resort at The Mountain; 20 minutes to Goverment Camp and skiing etc.
Less than 15 minutes to Sandy and 45 minutes to PDX.
You’re invited to call me for more details about the Schoolhouse or Cabin.

We were very impressed with the school house/cabin; it was unique experience staying there and it's obvious the owner has put a lot of thought into decoration, ambiance and the comfort of his guests. We were amazed how large the school house was. Each bedroom was huge and had it's own immese bathroom. The school house was clean and well maintained and it was lots of fun for kids to be in a school house. They got a big kick out of the school bell probably to the chagrin of the neighbors. We found everything we need to make meals and the one thing we suggested the owner stated in would purchase the next week. Gerald was an absolute pleasure to work with and takes great pride in this property.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

This was a great cabin to stay at. The rooms are huge and the bathrooms are equally as large. The amenities were wonderful and the wood stove was cozy. It kept the schoolhouse very warm. The schoolhouse has everything you would need and the owner was more than accommodating. The schoolhouse is a perfect distance to the mountain for snowboarding and tubing. It was a great place for my friends and I to vacation together. I will definitely be back!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children.

We stayed a long weekend in the Schoolhouse and had a great time. The schoolhouse is one of the more unique rentals I have ever had the pleasure of renting of on Mt Hood. It's got a great rustic feel, but with all the modern amenities you could ask for. If anything, I would say the photos don't do the place justice, it is bigger than it looks. Gerald, the owner, was great, couldn't ask for a nicer guy to rent from. Only suggestion I would have would be to bring some sleeping pads if you have any more than 6 adults, there is a TON of room, but only 3 beds. I look forward to renting the Schoolhouse from Gerald again!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, pet owners, families with young children, girls getaway.

This was a great spot for a good-sized crowd of friends and family. The place is well designed (a cozy feel, but with ample space for 6 adults, three kids and two dogs) and pleasantly decorated. The outdoor patio and fire pit were great, but seeing as it was February, we used the indoor wood burning stove to stay warm and enjoy evening meals by. The location was perfect middle ground to get to on a busy Friday evening, then jump up to the mountain the next day. Gerald was very accommodating and we'd definitely stay here again if/when we get the chance.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, pet owners, families with young children.

I have to start off by saying this cabin was everything we wanted plus more. Easy 45 minute drive from Portland, nessled back off the main road and close to a beautiful river. Our party consisted of 8 of us and we all were very comforyable in this thre bedroom 4 bathroom cabin. The wood burning stove was great and heated the entore place, nive and cozy. The bedrooms are huge and each bathroom has a clawfoot tub, perfect for siaking after a long day on the mountain. The getleman who built this beautiful place (Gerald) gave us a warm welcome and let us know to contact him with any issues we may have, we did not have any and felt grateful for his offer. We have travled to many places and stayed in cabins all over the northwest, this is one of my favorites. Kitchen has everything you could possibly need to cook and intertain for a large party along with beautiful furnishing that make you feel as you are really in the woods...in a cabin. We have two small children and a dog who all were very wlecome and loved the stay as well. We will be coming back a couple more time this winter!Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

I loved the size of the schoolhouse. Having 3 large bedrooms was great for several families to stay and not too bad a price. We wish the kitchen was better stocked with cooking utensils. Also the washer was not working so we couldn't do any laundry. The cabin is cute and special for a couple celebrating their 5th anniversary. The schoolhouse needed a good cleaning when we got there so for a couple hours thats what we did. Would not recommend it to others unless you are just looking for something large at a good price. That it was.Recommended for: Pet owners, families with teenagers, families with young children.
Owner response: While I have strongly considered providing a detailed rebuke to this review, I will hold my tongue and let my past and future reviews speak for me. Gerald I. Weiss Builder,Owner and Keeper of The Sleepy Hollow Schoolhouse and Cabin

What a unique vacation rental!! We enjoyed our stay @ the school house. We especially loved the clawfoot tubs in the bathrooms!! Very relaxing after a day spent hiking @ Mount Hood. If it was up to our son, he'd be ringing the "school bell" every hour...a lot of fun (but not for the neighbors). Having the ping pong table was an extra bonus too. Next time we'll keep our word & not show up 2 hours earlier than expected...although our host still welcomed us..sorry about that! Thanks Gerald.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.

This place is quite the treasure! We had a wonderful time here and the wood stoves kept the house adequately warm. Our kids LOVED the charming cabin next to the house and really enjoyed their "own place" for the weekend. I think my favorite feature was the impressive and large picnic-style table in the kitchen. I think we hung out there most of the weekend, playing games, chatting, and eating. Thank you Gerald!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, girls getaway, sightseeing.
