The apartment was more spacious and comfortable at Han we expected. Really a piece of old Hollywood. The beds comfortable, the linens all fresh and the place immaculate on our arrival in the evening with some lights on and music playing to welcome us. The location is convenient, just 2 blocks from Hollywood and walkable if you like hills. There is garage parking as well as an outside spot which is very important in the hills. The owners were helpful whenever we had a question and when a bathroom repair was reported on a Sunday night, it was fixed before noon on Monday. We recommend this spot without reserve. Only those people needing room service might be disappointed.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: John and Linda, Thank you for such kind words. We're glad you have enjoyed your time here, it was a real pleasure having you as guests and we hope you come stay again one day. Niall & Deirdre

This apartment is a real Hollywood treasure. It sits up the hill, overlooking the city, but is in walking distance to all the excitement of Hollywood Boulevard. We stayed here for 2 month and did not want to leave. It is beautiful, roomy and feels like living in old Hollywood. Everything is kept original, in excellent condition and you can see that it is very well maintained with style and love. There is a huge living room with fireplace, with a great view onto trees and over the city from the veranda. The master bedroom with adjoining dressing room (oh how much I loved it) has french doors opening to the huge terrace which has a big table and BBQ. The bathrooms are original from the 30s, beautiful old colorful tiles and fixtures. So is the kitchen, beautiful original tiling and sink, huge cupboards and wow, a Viking Professional stove/oven, so if you like to cook, you´ll be very happy. You can enter the apartment direct from the garage, which is very convenient. Also there is a 2nd outside parking space, which is great , since there is no street parking. We can´t wait to stay here again. If you love vintage and old Hollywood glamour, this is the right place for you. Everything is so well kept and the location is just fantastic in the middle of everything. If you like everything brand new and mind some charming cracks and old fixtures, this may not be the place for you. Also, if you are extremly sensitive to street noise, you should think about picking Hollywood as your place to stay. The apartment is located in a quiet street and up the hill, but there can be police helicopters and street noise. Deirdre and Naill are very nice and helpful landlords, always there, if we needed anything. They welcomed us when we arrived, showing us the place and making sure, everything we needed was there. They really made us feel at home. I like to thank Deirdre and Naill for having us. We definitely can recommend this apartment and love to stay here again.Owner response: Anna, thank you for your kind words. It was a pleasure having you and Juergen stay. Niall and I look forward to seeing you again. Kindest regards, Deirdre & Niall

Two girlfriends and I rented this beautiful apartment last December for a weekend reunion. We felt like we were in another world in this lovely, impeccably maintained Spanish hide away at the top of a hill with striking views of the city. Sipping wine in the sun room while watching the sun go down was a highlight. We spent most of our time in the apartment lounging on the luxurious couches in front of the fireplace and catching up with each other but there are restaurants, theaters and shopping within blocks of the apartment at Hollywood and Highland. We walked down to Musso and Frank's for martinis one night to complete the 1930s Hollywood experience! We enjoyed the comfort and details in the apartment (gorgeous 1930s bathroom tile, high ceilings, polished wood floors and a fully equipped kitchen). Bedrooms are very comfortable. We felt like queens.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, tourists without a car, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: We're really glad you had a good time. Thank you for the delicious chocolate chip cookies you left for us..... We hope to see you again soon. Niall & Deirdre

I have stayed at this apartment with my daughter who likes to brag to her friends she stayed in the same apartment as Drew Barrymore who lived here in the late 90’s. This apartment is magnificent. It’s very luxurious and beautiful, it will set you back in time. You might even feel like a movie star! I know my daughter did. She still talks about it. We had a wonderful stay and will definitely be back again. S. My husband and my son and I have stayed at this lovely apartment for over 2 months whilst our house was being renovated. It was a very happy experience. The apartment itself is beautiful, built in 1929, and it still has all the original moldings and tiles and fixtures in perfect condition. To stay here is like stepping back in time to the glamor of early Hollywood. The large picture windows, the beautiful terrace, and the French doors off the master bedroom all face south so you have an iconic view of Hollywood. And even though’ the apartment is nestled away at the top of a quite street, you are minutes from anywhere you need to go. I have lived all over LA, but this is hand down the most convenient location. All the shops and entertainment on Hollywood Boulevard are within walking distance, but you are minutes from the studios in the valley, and minutes from the groovy shops on La Brea and Fairfax. The apartment was really well equipped; it has everything you need to cook. It also has incredibly comfortable beds with cozy linens and the same mattresses they use at the W hotel. But perhaps most importantly, and what made our stay so enjoyable, was how well the landlords maintain the building and look after their tenants. Naill and Deirdre could not have been more helpful or sweet. They take care of all the things you could forget to do like put out the trash and organize the mail. If a bulb went out they fixed it the same day, and of course the property is in immaculate condition and they take great pride in maintaining its original beauty. We all loved this apartment, it was roomy and comfortable and beautiful. I cannot imagine anyone staying here and being disappointed. What’s not to love about drinking your coffee in the morning on a wide tile terrace perched high above Hollywood. 2 thumbs up to this Hollywood treasure!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, tourists without a car, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you so much Sophie for this wonderful review. We are glad you enjoyed your time here. You and your family are welcome back anytime. Warmest regards, Deirdre

Ok where should I start? We inquired with the owner about staying multiple months at this location. I was in LA and wanted to look at this among others I had already checked out before my arrival. I met with Deirdre and she showed me the property. Deirdre came across really pleasant upon our first meeting she told me if we wanted to take the place she would give us a discount but we had to pay it all up front. I liked the place and the location was nice so I brought my husband over to see it. Deirdres husband Nial was there to show us. My husband didn't feel comfortable giving them all that money upfront in case there were any unforeseen problems. NIal seemed to think that was reasonable so we said we would pay in post dated 2 week checks for 2 months. We agreed and moved in. The day we arrived Deirdre decided that this was not reasonable to her and she told us we must pay the nightly rate for a week and see if everything was ok (what else were we to do we had already moved in) I am thankful we didn't commit longer because after day one there was major problems. There was NO HOT WATER apparently 2 apartments share a 40 gallon tank, Thats totally unreasonable! There is a ant problem, they were all over the bathroom crawling all over my toothbrush and all over the floor. The internet only worked in one place (they did agree to fix this) the parking was a nightmare as the other renters usually double park outside so that leaves the extra small garage where even with a compact car you can only open one door if you get really close to one wall. Parking in the garage is a two person job. The apartment was missing many items to make it comfortable and livable. My husbands business partner stayed the night because a meeting ran late and Deirdre tried to charge us extra fees. Overall owner is unreasonable to deal with and the place just isn't up to par.Owner response: For the last 14 yrs we have rented 6 apartments to long & short term tenants. If this very negative and dishonest review gives you any doubt about us or our apt please see the reviews on our other vrbo rental # 272689. Our current long & short term tenants would be delighted to vouch for us. The couple that wrote this were the first short term tenants in this particular apartment. Building/garage built in 1929, this is the first time we?ve ever had a complaint about the garage. In the Hollywood Hills, like everyone else we have ants now and then. As our other tenants will affirm we take care of any issues promptly, too bad this wasn?t brought to our attention at the time. Our policy for short term is full payment before moving in. Guest reminded of this via email in advance. Guests announced not willing to pay full amount the day “before” they moved in 12/5. Guest received email 12/5 confirming agreed 1 week beginning the following day 12/06 to 12/5 with the option to extend to 2 mths (on record/email) Upon getting a call 12/7 that “their guest” didn?t have enough hot water to shower we politely reminded them that the lease they “scrutinized, questioned and even requested to amend some benign rental rules (I kid you not) when moving in (THE DAY BEFORE) only allowed 2 guests and any “future” extra guests would be an added cost. The discount the review mentions was considerable & based on 2 months After theorizing for a few hours on; why the shortage of hot water, we finally figured the water temp was turned down low while it was vacant for renovation the month prior- turned back up, hot water was solved. My husband and I do our best to make everyone feel comfortable. Alas, we were not to the standard of this very young and VERY wealthy retired (or so they said) couple, (he a celebrity) obviously accustomed to always getting their way, never taking NO for an answer HOLD THE DATES/2MONTHS WHILE WE MAKE UP OUR MINDS TWO WEEKS AT A TIME. Really? Well we don?t have the luxury of retiring just yet and we don?t have; to quote the husband “nothing but time on my hands”. We have a business to run and two teenagers to raise and we resent having to waste time responding to such trite, then again someone has to stand up to the bullies. Needless to say we were very relieved they did not want to extend their stay. Who knows maybe someday there may be a site for folks like us to post warnings about folks such as these. Pleasant renting
