The Victorian at Sanctuary Place

The Victorian at Sanctuary Place was built in 1888 for Dr. Joseph Glidden - a prominent Savannah physician who sat on the Georgia Board of Health. It eventually became the parsonage for the adjacent church and was primarily student housing for the ten years prior to being restored in 2010. The Kitchen, and baths were replaced and upgraded for modern needs - crown molding and plantation shutters were added to fit the period It has 2 bedrooms and 2 1/2 baths, plus a queen- size convertible sofa in the living room. Both beds are queen and there is a trunk room that makes for a large closet on the second floor. The Victorian has been thoughtfully appointed and is well stocked with essentials. A side door leads to a lovely courtyard with a fountain, outdoor seating and a gas grill. This historic location is convenient for exploring Savannah by foot or car and a very short walk to Forsythe Park and several local favorites. Thank you for your interest, we hope to hear from you soon - Sanctuary Inn

I agree with all the other reviews: Sanctuary Place was great! It was the first time I and two friends had been to Savannah. I insisted that they each take a bedroom and I took an air mattress for the trunk room--it was perfect. Being three retired women, we saw Savannah during the day and enjoyed the house morning and evening. The 2 and a half baths also worked out well. The courtyard was great for reading and enjoying a drink. We also enjoyed meeting the vacationers in the other rentals; they were very nice and gave us advice on restaurants and things to see. We made lunch reservations at Paula Deen's twice, enjoyed shopping, walking at Forsyth Park, touring Savannah, and visiting Tybee Island. Kevin and John were friendly and helpful. Our only complaint was that we wished we could have stayed longer. We highly recommend The Victorian at Sanctuary Place!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Sincere pleasure hosting your group Vickie. Thanks for the kind words and for taking such good care of the house. Of course, you are welcome anytime so keep in touch and have a great summer. - Kevin

The Victorian at Sanctuary Place is a lovely home with lots of character and charm. It is so open and spacious and very clean. It has everything you need to make you feel like you have a home away from away home. Also, the courtyard is so pretty and a great place to relax. Kevin is so friendly and helpful and made us feel right at home. I would definitely stay there again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We stayed the last four days of a wonderful three week US holiday in this property and it was, as its name suggests, a sanctuary . It is very spacious, spotless, well maintained both inside and out, tastefully decorated and so peaceful. While the photographs accurately reflect the decor, they do not convey the great sense of space and airiness , this is an entire house with Victorian proportions. Its central location is another plus, it's only a few minutes walk from Forsyth Park and for anyone who wants to really experience Savannah's charm, I would strongly recommend a walk through the Park and then along Bull St. to the river. It is magical,Square after Square unfolds revealing more antebellum mansions and everywhere there are oaks dripping Spanish moss. This is an extremely beautiful city and walking through it should be mandatory! So too should staying at The Victorian, its charm and elegance make it a fitting base from which to explore the surrounds. The city, the property, Kevin, John, John's dad and Troy all contributed towards making our visit so memorable. I would certainly stay there again and would strongly recommend the property to family and friends.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

My wife and I stayed 5 nights in the Victorian house. The owners did a great job leaving the character of the original house while providing modern updates to the kitchen and baths. House has everything you need for your visit to Savannah and Kevin offered a warm welcome and great suggestions for our first visit to this grand city. Our only complaint was that the weather was too warm to do a lot of walking...we will definitely come back when the weather is cooler.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: Thanks Randy - really nice meeting you sand you wife and I'm glad you found it comfortable. Savannah is always hot in the summer but usually not THIS hot. I hope you can return when the weather is more livable, which is most of the time in Savannah. Enjoy the rest of your, hopefully cooler, summer. Kevin

I've been down to Savannah several times but this was my first time staying downtown and it was an awesome experience. We stayed an entire week, the first two nights in the Victorian and the rest of the time in Cottage B; both were lovely. Both homes were fully equipped with everything we needed to make our stay comfortable including iron and ironing board, dishes, wireless Internet, and even premium cable. This was the first time I've ever stayed in a vacation home (we normally just do hotels) so I was a little apprehensive, but this experience exceeded my expectations. It was comfortable, clean and just a 25 minute walk from downtown (perfect for when you're eating all that delicious food every day!) Kevin is extremely friendly and helpful and he even gave us directions to some good spots nearby. Thanks again, Kevin for a lovely experience; we are already planning a second trip!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thanks Britney - great meeting you and your family. And thanks for being so flexible with changing units during the week - I appreciate how easy you made that for us. I hope you can visit again soon. Very best regards, Kevin

The house was beautiful and looks exactly how its advertised. Its close to Forsyth Park and its about 1.5 miles from river street, which we decided was fine to walk. Its generally a quiet street and a relaxing area, this house is highly recommended.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

After doing a lot of looking around, decided on The Victorian at Sanctuary Place due to it's proximity to the Savannah Civic Center and the price. I was travelling with my two kids, and then a friend and her son came down as a surprise. We LOVED this place. It was perfectly located and close enough to downtown to do our sightseeing, yet far enough to be away to have peace and quiet at night. The home has beautiful architecture and is furnished for relaxing. The dining room table was great for meals. The kitchen had all the pots, pans, dishes, utensils, etc. we needed. Truly a home away from home. What I enjoyed even more than the property was Kevin's hospitality. He made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. We even got a tour of the lofts, which we hope to stay in on our next visit to Savannah.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

The Sanctuary is truely a unique property. We stayed in the lovely Victorian but were luckly enough to peek into the other properties. The property is well maintained. Even though the pictures are great the house is even better in person. I love having lots of big white fluffy towels and lots of hangers. The trunk room is great for packing and unpacking. Kevin and John are so helpful and friendly we left feeling like we've made 2 new friends. Savannah was in full bloom, flowers everywhere. My husband and son tried to see every museum and fort. Tybee Island was fun also. Our best meal was at Leoci's (606 Abercorn). A must is Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room. Do not let the long lines scare you, they move quickly and it's worth the wait. Uncle Bubba's on the way to Tybee had wonderful fresh seafood unlike The Crab Shack which had the worst seafood we have ever had anywhere! We would definately recommend this property to friends and relatives. It's one Spring Break we will not soon forget. Thank you Kevin and John.Did you find this review helpful? Sanctuary Inn is a fabulous rental! Beautiful historic home renovated with all modern amenities. Located in the historic district, it is within walking distance to all attractions and within one block of gorgeous Forsyth Park. Kevin and John were fabulous hosts and our only regret is that we were only able to stay four nights. Couldn't recommend highly enough!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0
