Amazing Mountain Cabin in Silverton

This is probably the best cabin in Silverton and probably in the San Juans! It is close to town (walking distance), but feels as if you are completely alone in mountains as the town lights are blocked by a nearby hill. Every morning you wake up to a beautiful sunrise over the San Juan mountains. It is a great place to relax all day or use as a base camp for great adventures. We came in the summer and spent an amazing week of hiking, 4-wheeling, and climbing to beautiful alpine areas within a 20 minute drive. On the property itself we saw local wildlife including deer, fox, chipmunks, and a porcupine! The house is very luxurious with a great kitchen and common area. It could easily sleep 10 people, but feels cozy enough for 2. This place is a treasure, and the owners are great people as well.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, adventure seekers, people with disabilities.

What a great place for a winter family vacation! The house was comfortable and well-maintained. We had two families of 4 people each (4 adults and 4 kids) staying in the house, and we all fit comfortably with plenty of room to spread out. There are 4 floors in the house (counting the basement). The adults spent most of our time on the 1st floor which has an open floor plan with a kitchen, dining, living room area that provided a great place for meals and socializing. This main floor has floor-to-ceiling windows, and the views from the main floor were spectacular – vistas of the Grenadiers and the San Juan mountain range. It was great having a 2 other floors where we could send the kids when we/they needed some downtime. The upstairs loft provided a great getaway for kids when they wanted their own space. The bedrooms were all roomy and comfortable. Mike and Katy (the owners) were appropriately attentive and accommodating. The snow was great during our stay, and hills located right outside the house provided great sledding/tubing. We had skied at the Durango Mountain Ski Slope, so we did not ski in Silvertown. However, we checked out skiing options. The trails next to the house are great for either hiking (which we did) or cross country skiing. There were 2 ski slopes, depending on your level of experience – Silverton Mountain, which is tough and definitely not for the faint-hearted or novices. Kendall Mountain Ski Slope (located right next to town) provided had easier sloped for the less experienced skiers. Our two families had a great time. We would definitely recommend to friends/relative, and we will definitely be back!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

About the owner: We live in Durango, a spectacular 50 miles south of Silverton. Our family has lived in southwest Colorado since the 1920s.
