Located on a quiet little cul-de-sac not far from the Southernmost Point in the Uptown part of Key West, you will find Koi House, a very private residential compound with its own meandering pond filled with Koi fish, a huge courtyard and a Japanese garden with gazebos. If you're lucky, you'll see a few of the peaceful iguanas who come out to munch on the leaves.

THE COURTYARD...

The first thing you will see when you come through the front gate of this property is a fountain in the middle of a very large courtyard with two gazebos. Then there's the large Koi pond that gives this house its name. A leisurely walk through the Japanese garden is the perfect way to start your day in paradise. There is a sense of tranquility and grace to this home that will make your stay in Key West something you'll remember for a very long time.

THE LIVING AREA...

The living room has huge sliding glass doors that open to the pool on one side and the courtyard on the other. And when you want fresh air, those doors slide into the walls. You'll enjoy a very dramatic indoor/outdoor effect. The kitchen is completely equipped. The dining area is on the porch overlooking the pool.

THE ACCOMMODATIONS...

The two largest bedrooms are in the guesthouse, one upstairs and the other downstairs. Both bedrooms have king beds, seating areas and a balcony overlooking the courtyard and Koi pond. Three of the bedrooms are in the main house, one downstairs with a queen bed and en-suite bathroom and two more upstairs. The first upstairs bedroom has three twin beds. The second upstairs bedroom has a king bed.

THE POOL HOUSE...

There is a pool house with its own bathroom and shower, and a whimsical claw foot tub and shower right by the pool. The pool is solar heated. And it is all very private.

THE AMENITIES...

Air Conditioning, Ceiling Fans throughout, Private gated & lushly landscaped courtyard with large Koi Pond, two Gazebos, BBQ Grill, Washer/Dryer, 42' LCD Flat Screen TV, Cable TV, DVD Players, Microwave, Blender, Toaster, Full Gourmet Appointed Kitchen, Linens and Towels provided. From a low of one to a high of eleven people ranging in age from 5 to 78, Koi House was terrific. We started with the comings and goings of the older kids during Spring Break and finished with the first get-away for four siblings and their spouses in over forty years. All agreed that they couldn't imagine a better location, sitting on the edge of the Casa Marina district, a couple of blocks from the Southernmost beach with its outdoor bar restaurant, and within walking distance of the hurly burly of Duval, Whitehead and Simonton Streets. In fact, the cars (2 or 3) mostly stayed parked in our driveway. Sleeping accommodations were perfect. Two master suites in a guesthouse with wraparound porches, and the main house with another two private bedrooms and a third that could sleep up to three kids. And, that's without using any living room couches! It's hard to do justice to the tropical garden grounds. In addition to the fish pond, two gazebos and a hidden Zen area, the open terrace, swimming pool (claw footed tub with hand shower outside and a hot/cold shower in the pool house, plus full laundry facilities) and outdoor dining table rarely we're empty of readers, game players, or soakers. For our crowd, technology is a must, so two wi-fi sources and multiple TVs made our month long visit very pleasant. There were a couple of glitches along the way, but manager, Shel Segel, took care of them in short order. Speaking of service, we also signed up for cleaning services which did a superb job, and the grounds crew kept the property and pool pristine. Key West has too many good restaurants and saloons to mention. We were there for the start of the 10th Anniversary Celebration of the Conch Republic, which was a hoot, including "drag races" like you've never seen before. We're not afraid to admit that we never miss sundowners at Mallory Square or frequent as many "tourist" places as the finer eating establishments. Can't wait to return. If Key West is your cup of tea as it is ours, you'll have to look hard to find better accommodations for your group.

The property was much larger than we expected. With 3 couples vacationing together, we found that we had plenty of space where we could spend time together or have quiet time in one of the 2 gazebos or by the pool. The landscaping was very dense with every Florida plant imaginable. We could not have asked for a better location…close to Duval St and great restaurants were within easy walking distance. The property does need some updating, but we had everything we needed. Shel, the guest services manager, was very helpful anytime we needed something.

Well to sum the month up...AWESOME my entire family decided to spend the holidays in Key West. We chose the Koi house since it was off the beaten track of Duval Street yet close enough to all of the attractions. We had a mix of age from 78 to 8 months and the Koi house made this all possible. The guest house was far enough away for the 8 month old to get her many naps and was quiet. The main house was perfect for my 78 yr old mother and the realtors had a ramp installed for her wheel chair, ( how perfect was that). Shel our contact person kept in touch with us during our entire vacation and was so accommodating it was almost unreal. The compound was beautiful and larger than we had thought. The bathrooms are a little out dated but all very functional. The master bedroom in the main house could have used a TV, but his was only for my mother. We could walk everywhere, stores and attractions were all very close. If you decided to vacation in Key West and have a large family as I did, this house would be perfect . We had fun and Thank you Shel for all of your help during our stay. Can't wait until next year. Sandy
