Sugar Shack on the Gulf

The Sugar Shack on the Gulf is a bright, breezy vacation getaway. Built circa 1902, this quaint two-unit cottage is located just two blocks from the seawall! Sugar Shack has recently been completely renovated, from the studs up, with original hardwood floors, high ceilings and a fully appointed kitchen including granite countertops and a glass tile backsplash. Sleeping accommodations include all brand new beds. The upstairs unit has one king bedroom, one twin bunk bedroom and a sectional sleeper sofa (queen) in the living room. The downstairs unit has one queen bedroom, one twin bunk bedroom and a sectional sleeper sofa (queen). Everything about the decor of this charming two-unit cottage harkens back to it's island roots. One note: pictures of the two units were taken on different days, one sunny, one cloudy...hence the darker downstairs photos. Good light in both units.
The fenced-in back yard has 2 spacious decks, one for each unit, that beckon you for morning coffee and evening margaritas to the sound of crashing waves, just blocks away. Highly desirable, private off-street parking located behind the backyard fence. This home is walking distance to some of the locals favorite watering (and eating!) holes....including Captain Jack's, Saltgrass Steakhouse & Shykatz Restaurant.

Family of four plus doggy from Red Oak, TX. We stayed the week of Christmas 2012 and loved every minute. The place is cozy, comfortable and well appointed. We had everything we could want to make our Christmas merry. I like to cook-no problem! Love Fiesta Ware. Beach is short walk. We could hear surf from our bedroom. Location is grand, close to Murdocks, Pleasure Pier, Galvez, Stewart Beach, and straight shot to the Strand. Friendly neighbors, too! Lots of bang for the buck. Ron is the perfect host. Thank you for a wonderful stay. Will recommend to family and friends. Have a Happy New Year!Recommended for: Girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, families with young children.
Owner response: Thank you so much for the kind review! We are so fortunate to have our wonderful property managers, Ron & Tony, as well, kind guests like you...:) Look forward to having ya'll back!

We thoroughly enjoyed our week at the Sugar Shack. This property entirely met my needs, and I think I surprised my wife, who fell in love with the place. The kitchen and living areas in particular were quite comfortable, and I think we spent more on groceries and eating in than we did eating out. My dogs also did very well here, and I greatly appreciate the fenced yard and secure gates. Thanks to the owner and management for all their help! I can confidently recommend this place to family and friends, and I am sure we'll be back.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, pet owners.

My husband & I agree with everything Marti wrote in her review above! This cute cottage has been recently renovated and everything was NEW and nicely decorated. We loved having both a front porch and a back deck & yard for relaxing. It was very conveniently located only 2 blocks from Seawall Blvd., with lots of shops & restaurants nearby. Oh yeah, nice neighbors, too!Recommended for: Girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing, pet owners, families with young children, age 55+.
Owner response: Thanks so much, glad ya'll enjoyed your stay! It was a pleasure having you!

A stay at the Sugar Shack is a great way to escape from the stresses of everyday life. The second we walked through the door we relaxed and said “Ahh”. The home was inviting, beautifully decorated, spacious, spotless and well located! The beach is just a short walk away and a quick car ride will get you to The Strand. Everything we needed and more was provided (i.e., linens, washer/dryer, kitchenware, towels, WiFi, etc.) There was even a pail and shovel to take with us to the beach! The back patio was the perfect spot to relax with a glass of wine while taking in the cool breeze from the Gulf. And my two 4-legged children LOVED chasing each other around in the private, fenced backyard. All the comforts of home. Tony and Ronald were gracious hosts and had the best recommendations of where to go for food and fun. This is the perfect place to stay and play. We enjoyed our time immensely and will definitely be scheduling another visit soon!Recommended for: Girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing, people with disabilities, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, pet owners, families with young children, age 55+.
Owner response: Thanks so much for the lovely review, you were an outstanding guest! We look forward to having you back on the island soon...:)
