Spacious apartment and totally new kitchen!
This flat works out well on a number of fronts: location, size, parking, and cost.
'Location' best describes the situation of this charming, center of town apartment located just minutes from canceled and historic old town Annecy, France. The apartment is located IN Annecy, not nearby. The apt. is on the convenient elevated ground floor of a 1930s building and right across the street from the weekly market. It is spacious, comfortable and correct, but not pretentious; high ceilings, charm and a private terrace. The kitchen is all new and well supplied. Convenient free wireless internet and long distance calls to over 70 countries land line phones. Private parking lot is right outside. Our rates are priced to book the flat.
Nearest airport: Geneva. Train station: 10 min. walk. Discounts and laundry available for longer stays. Email or call now and you'll receive a prompt, helpful reply. We want to help make your trip a good one!
Annecy: The Old Towne is loaded with charm! Boutiques, designer shops, galleries and cafés line the canals and the walking area near the lake. The pedestrian mall walk culminates at a modern shopping center 'Courier' and theatre complex. The train station is also next door. Grocery stores are in both the Old Towne as well as the Courier mall. All within walking range. Restaurants serve the traditional 'savoyard' dishes as well as classic french — some until the wee hours of the morning. Just minutes from the apartment is beautiful Lac Annecy and Le Paquier, the large park area with train and carousel rides. The Pacquier is host to picnics, soccer matches, events, walks, and benches to just relax and look out at the lake and surrounding mountains. A Galeries Lafayette shopping experience, along with cafeteria, post office and other shops, is a two minute walk the other direction. Close to the Old Towne, but just far enough away to feel like you are in a residential 'non-tourist' area. Voila!
Around Annecy: If you plan to stay long enough to do some day trips or have a eurrail pass, the train station is a ten minute walk. There is a TGV 'fast train' to Paris from Annecy. If you arrive by car, a space is provided for parking. If you choose to rent bicycles a locked shed is available for storage or, if you prefer, you may store them carefully in the apt. It's on an elevated ground floor, meaning about 6-7 steps above ground level. If you want to take the bus, the stop is across the street. If you want to do more sightseeing by car, however, you are about an hour from Mt. Blanc, Europe's highest peak, and the Mt. Blanc tunnel which takes you into Italy. Switzerland is 30 minutes north, the French Riviera is about a four hour drive south and the Burgundy wine area is about three hours. Albertville, Chamonix, and Grenoble, all winter Olympic hosts, are all nearby. Geneva, an incredible, historic city, is less than an hour away. Your options are limitless from this excellent location.
14 Blvd du Lycée: This apartment is a find and we bought it because we love the location, the high ceilings, the 'extra' room, and the private terrace. The apartment is comfortable and correct, but not overly pretentious or luxurious. There is a queen size bed in one bedroom, two single beds in a second and a sofa bed in the 'extra' room, which doubles as a TV/office room. There is also a portable crib. The kitchenette, while compact, is completely supplied with fridge, microwave, coffee maker, dishes and appliances. The toilet is separate from the bathroom, which has a cabin shower, sink and shelves. Towels are provided, as well as bedding. The living area is a combined living/dining room. Tall french doors open to steps to the fenced in private terrace with table, parasol and BBQ. We'll leave several brochures in different languages to help you get acclimated to Annecy and all the area offers. We're happy to talk to you in English or French. Free wireless internet. Cable TV. Free parking. Free calls.

We have stayed for one week with 3 teenagers during last winter and we all appreciated the location of this apartment, very close to the downtown Annecy (5 mm walk). The place is quit and silent, thanks to the good windows isolation. Heating is efficient and rooms are comfortable even if it looks old style furniture. We have appreciated the long term view of the owners who plans to refresh each year one room. The kitchen is very nice and convenient. Next time it should be the bathroom to be reworked. We appreciated as well that the apartment is very well equipped with books, useful advices and recommendations. We feel like at home and French are not used to it. If you are French we will recommend you to send payment directly to the French account of the owners in Annecy. It will safe time. Last point to be noted is the very friendly people leaving in the building and who will welcome you and give you any kind of support.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

this was our first visit to annecy (or anywhere in france!) with our family of four (2 boys 2 and 5). for anyone expecting something fancy or remodeled, this is not it. it is clean, but very humble. the tiles are old and it is furnished very traditionally. but the apartment was definitely spacious enough for us. the portable crib and single beds were great. the larger bed was very firm, but i'll take firm over overly soft any day. the kitchen is very small with little to no counter space if you are cooking, but you make it work. i'd say the one big complaint we had is the great number of ants that were present this week. they are fast and though we would take great care to do the dishes and wipe down the tables, etc. after meals, we would still find them out and about in the mornings. the tile in the kitchen could definitely use some replacing or at the very least, fresh caulking. it was very warm this week and the two fans in the bedrooms came in handy. additionally, the apartment stays very cool compared to outside. and we were amazed how quiet it was. aside from the front door of the building, which is pretty loud, you could not hear the neighbors at all. not a single footstep from above. and we were very happy to walk out to the fabulous market saturday morning right across the street. the wireless internet worked GREAT too. and as so many have noted, the owners and the caretakers, as well as the neighbors were all very kind and went out of their way to be helpful.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, tourists without a car.

We stayed here during a festival and it was simply fantastic! I have been to a lot of hotels and residences in Annecy, but this was really perfect. The apartment was cozy but bigger than we expected so we had no problems when some friends came over for dinner. We had everything, appliances/towels/sheets and the rooms were clean. I admit that the bathroom is not super modern, but it is a real house and it felt good coming back here after a day of running around in Annecy. The owners and the couple who manages it are very nice and not at all intrusive. I reccomend it to all!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

My husband and I stayed in this apartment for a week with our three young boys. We were impressed with the spaciousness and layout of the apartment, as well as the great location (5-7 min by foot to Lake Annecy, 5 more onto the Old Town). The kitchen and bathroom were a bit dated, but very clean, well-equipped and more than adequate for the purpose. The high ceilings, polished floors and doors onto the terrace gave the place a lovely "french" feel. A good playground directly across the street, plus on-site free parking helped make this a great choice for family travel. Overall, a very nice experience. I would stay here again and definitely recommend this, (and Annecy in general), to my friends as a good-value, comfortable place to stay.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, families with young children, tourists without a car, girls getaway, sightseeing.

This apartment is quiet, clean, and spacious (for France). The building is from the 1930's and quite spare. It's charming in a quaint way. From a practical standpoint, the beds are hard (I liked this, my wife didn't) and the shower needs to be updated. However, the owners are wonderfully helpful and accommodating, as are the caretakers who live in the apartment above. Our visit was overshadowed by poor skiing (the reason we came to Annecy), but we were pleased with our accommodations.Recommended for: Sightseeing.

I've now used Homeaway for four different rentals, ranging from Hawaii to France. My experience with this one was top notch. The apartment was as described, if not better. The location was great, a short walk to the old town and the park next to the lake, and one of the most amazing markets I've seen anywhere in the world is right across the street on Saturdays. We had four kids, ranging from 1 to 14, and it was perfect for them as well. There is a playground literally across the street, and since the apartment is on the first floor, we never worried that they were too loud and disturbing people below. I can't wait to return to Annecy, and I would stay here again in a heartbeat.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

We were in Europe for about 8 weeks and our stay here was an 8 day stretch in the middle (5/28/10 to 6/5/10). At the end of the trip the 4 of us agreed it had been one of the trip highlights. The apartment’s location within Anncey is great as is the location of Anncey itself for touring the French Alps & Lake Geneva. The apartment is well laid out and well equipped including many “extras”. Some things we appreciated in particular were: the Wi Fi and telephone communications provided, the very comprehensive "operations" manual and collection of tourist information, the basic groceries and other supplies on hand to start off housekeeping. My wife does not walk well and was especially thankful for the very close local bus stops which make it easy to get to the lake and downtown. Last, but far from least in importance, the owner is very straightforward and easy to deal with. All in all, an excellent experience which we will remember fondly.Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, tourists without a car, girls getaway, sightseeing.

This apartment is in a great location, just a short 5 minute walk to the lake and town. It was bigger than we thought, we were 4 ladies and had no issues sharing this apartment even with 1 bathroom. It was nice to be able to sit on the terrace, if I had one piece of advice it would be to somehow shield the terrace from the traffic and street, the terrace is very close to the road and it can be noisy and distracting. There were two great bakeries really close to the apartment, I wouldn't recommend the dry cleaners across the street. They were very slow and didn't do a good job with our laundry. The grocery store is in walking distant as long as you don't have a lot of bags to carry, Galeries Lafayette right across the street (dangerous).Recommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car, girls getaway.

5 of us (plus a 14 mo old, pack and play provided) stayed in the apartment for 3 nights in May 2010. The apartment worked out great for us, it was so close to everything. It was very clean, updated, and plenty big enough for all of us. Working with Karen couldn't have been more enjoyable. She was eager to share tips and suggestions over the phone and via e-mail. I would highly recommend staying here. Annecy was probably the best part of our trip. Thanks so much!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, tourists without a car, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2005
About the owner: Hi! We're Craig and Karen Roalson. We both grew up in Iowa, (USA) and aside from living for three wonderful years in Annecy, France, we still live here. We moved to Annecy in 2002, with our two sons, 10 and 12 at the time. Our plan was to stay one year to help a non-profit group. We extended our stay to two years, then for a third! When it was time to move back to Iowa, we decided to try and buy an apartment so we could come back to visit the city we had so enjoyed. We thought we might be able to rent it to students as a rental agency assured us it would be easy to do so. However, for the first year it sat empty. We decided to rent it ourselves instead and, not to students, but to vacationers. It's been a lot of fun getting to meet people from all over and help them to have a nice stay in Annecy.
Why the Owner Chose Annecy:
Upon moving to France we didn't know where we would be living. When we arrived in Annecy, we immediately saw how fortunate we were. Then, after three years of living in Annecy, we talked about possibly finding a way to buy an apartment so we could come back. Annecy is in the Rhone-Alpes area of France which is a beautiful area, just about 30-40 minutes south of Geneva, Switzerland. The Olde Towne in Annecy is charming and there is always something going on around the lakefront. We felt like we knew the town well and knew what kind of location would be best. We fell in love with this apartment location, the little garden area, and the traditional French windows and high ceilings.
