Annecy is such a charming town! Whether it's summer or winter there is always something to do. In summer, there are several festivals and lake shows. Hiking, biking and many outdoor activities take place in and surrounding Annecy. Lac Annecy is always entertaining water enthusiasts of many kind. In winter, Annecy is within a 30 minute drive to several family ski areas in the region. It's also within one hour to Chamonix, Grenoble or Albertville where past winter Olympics have been held. Annecy is a finalist for the 2018 Winter Olympics games with an announcement due in July, 2011.
This apartment works out very well on a number of fronts: location, size, ammenities, parking, and cost.
LOCATION best describes the situation of this charming, smoke-free center of town apartment located just minutes from canalled and historic old town Annecy, France. And yes, you can walk to Annecy's annual spectacular water show Fete du Lac! The apartment is located IN Annecy, not NEAR Annecy. You won't end up feeling "out of the loop".
On the ground floor of a four story 1930s building, this apartment is right across the street from the traditional Saturday morning open air market. You can pick up your lunch and eat outdoors on the private terrasse. Or have your coffee along with a fresh pastry from the end of the block.
Wonderful Lake Annecy, possibly the cleanest lake in Europe, features beaches, fishing and sailing throughout its ten mile mountain rimmed expanse- only minutes from the house. Spacious views of the Alps beckon hikers, gliders and bikers to the many world class trails within minutes of "home." If trout fishing is your water sport, the Fier River is nearby.
The Old Towne is loaded with boutique style shops and cafés lining the canals near the lake and the walk culminates at a modern shopping and theatre complex. All within walking range. A Galeries Lafayette shopping experience, along with restaurant and grocery store, is a two minute walk the other direction.
If you plan to stay long enough to do some day trips the train station is a ten minute walk. If you want to take the bus, the stop is across the street. If you want to do more sightseeing by car, however, you are about an hour from Mt. Blanc, Europe's highest peak, and the Mt. Blanc tunnel which takes you into Italy. Switzerland is 30 minutes north, the French Riviera is about a four hour drive south and the Burgundy wine area is about three hours.
SIZE — The apartment is comfortable and correct. With two bedrooms, four people can sleep without spilling into the living room. Even for larger groups the sofa bed is conveniently located in the tv/office room, not in the living/dining room. There is a queen size bed in one bedroom, two single beds in a second and a sofa bed in a third room, which doubles as a tv/office room. There is also a portable crib. The high ceilings also add to a feeling of roominess.
The kitchen is completely supplied with fridge, micro, coffee maker, dishes and appliances. The toilet is separate from the bathroom, which has an cabin shower, sink and shelves. The living area is a combined living/dining room. Tall french doors open to steps to the fenced in private terrasse with table, parasol and BBQ.
AMMENITIES — The apartment is well stocked for a comfortable stay. Free long distance phone calls to most countries land line phones as well as free wireless internet. Even do your own BBQ with the provided charcoal grill.
PARKING — There is a private parking lot available on a first come, first use basis at no additional charge. Across from the parking lot there is another free parking area next to a small park.
COST — Even with all the extras provided for in the apartment, you only pay about the cost of one hotel room. You also have free long distance to land line phones in nearly 80 countries as well as free unlimited wireless internet use. If wanted, you can cook at home and stock up the refrigerator and save on eating out. For a family this allows everyone to be together and becomes even more economical.
Your options are limitless from this excellent location. You are close to the Old Towne to walk, but just far enough away to feel like you are in a quiet, residential setting. Pets are negotiable.
We'll leave several brochures in different languages to help you get acclimated to Annecy and all the area offers. We're happy to talk to you in English or French and give you more advice and suggestions to make this a wonderful time for you!
Washing machine/dryer option is available for three week stays or longer. A laundromat is also one block away and offers a self serve option.
If you are arriving in Geneva and don't intend on renting a car, we can help you arrange either private shuttle service or bus service to and from the apartment.
We believe that staying in an apartment enriches your trip and experience. We will work to help you have a wonderful vacation.

Annecy 1930s 2+BR/1BA Apart. -- Great Location! Great Reviews!

Why the Owner Chose Annecy
Upon moving to France we didn't know where we would be living. When we arrived in Annecy, we immediately saw how fortunate we were. Then, after three years of living in Annecy, we talked about possibly finding a way to buy an apartment so we could come back. Annecy is in the Rhone-Alpes area of France which is a beautiful area, just about 30-40 minutes south of Geneva, Switzerland. The Olde Towne in Annecy is charming and there is always something going on around the lakefront. We felt like we knew the town well and knew what kind of location would be best. We fell in love with this apartment location, the little garden area, and the traditional French windows and high ceilings.
The Unique Benefits at this Apartment
Once we decided to buy a place, we knew the city well enough to know what kind of location we were looking for. We found an apartment that met all of our criteria. It's close to the lake. It's close to Olde Towne. It's within walking distance to grocery stores and all kinds of shopping and restaurants. It's in a residential area so not as loud during the tourist season. It's right across the street from the Saturday morning market. So we found a great location. And we also found a great little apartment. It is on the elevated ground floor so it is fortunate enough to have a terrasse. It also has a cave directly below so it is fortunate enough to have a washer/dryer. And it has enough room for 5-6 people to comfortably sleep.
A modern indoor mall with a variety of shops, as well as a grocery store. Sephora, FNAC, H&M to name a few.
The train station is about a 10 minute walk to and from the apartment.
The Paquier is a large open public park area next to the lake. It hosts many events throughout the year and is a popular spot to walk or to sit and view the lake. It's about a five minute walk to and
A pedestrian mall which connects the indoor mall to the old town area. Shops are all up and down this street.
The large Saturday morning market which is right across the street from the apartment. It runs year round. Great roasted chicken!
This is a larger area which hosts the canals, restaurants and the charming shops and centuries old buildings which people come from all over to see.
Lake Annecy...In this area there are boat and bike rentals, as well as peddle boat rentals.
Owner's Map of Annecy
Hi! We're Craig and Karen Roalson. We both grew up in Iowa, (USA) and aside from living for three wonderful years in Annecy, France, we still live here. We moved to Annecy in 2002, with our two sons, 10 and 12 at the time. Our plan was to stay one year to help a non-profit group. We extended our stay to two years, then for a third! When it was time to move back to Iowa, we decided to try and buy an apartment so we could come back to visit the city we had so enjoyed. We thought we might be able to rent it to students as a rental agency assured us it would be easy to do so. However, for the first year it sat empty. We decided to rent it ourselves instead and, not to students, but to vacationers. It's been a lot of fun getting to meet people from all over and help them to have a nice stay in Annecy.

Quiet- Clean- Good Location

This apartment is quiet, clean, and spacious (for France). The building is from the 1930's and quite spare. It's charming in a quaint way. From a practical standpoint, the beds are hard (I liked this, my wife didn't) and the shower needs to be updated. However, the owners are wonderfully helpful and accommodating, as are the caretakers who live in the apartment above. Our visit was overshadowed by poor skiing (the reason we came to Annecy), but we were pleased with our accommodations.

I've now used Homeaway for four different rentals, ranging from Hawaii to France. My experience with this one was top notch. The apartment was as described, if not better. The location was great, a short walk to the old town and the park next to the lake, and one of the most amazing markets I've seen anywhere in the world is right across the street on Saturdays. We had four kids, ranging from 1 to 14, and it was perfect for them as well. There is a playground literally across the street, and since the apartment is on the first floor, we never worried that they were too loud and disturbing people below. I can't wait to return to Annecy, and I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

We were in Europe for about 8 weeks and our stay here was an 8 day stretch in the middle (5/28/10 to 6/5/10). At the end of the trip the 4 of us agreed it had been one of the trip highlights. The apartment’s location within Anncey is great as is the location of Anncey itself for touring the French Alps & Lake Geneva. The apartment is well laid out and well equipped including many “extras”. Some things we appreciated in particular were: the Wi Fi and telephone communications provided, the very comprehensive "operations" manual and collection of tourist information, the basic groceries and other supplies on hand to start off housekeeping. My wife does not walk well and was especially thankful for the very close local bus stops which make it easy to get to the lake and downtown. Last, but far from least in importance, the owner is very straightforward and easy to deal with. All in all, an excellent experience which we will remember fondly.

This apartment is in a great location, just a short 5 minute walk to the lake and town. It was bigger than we thought, we were 4 ladies and had no issues sharing this apartment even with 1 bathroom. It was nice to be able to sit on the terrace, if I had one piece of advice it would be to somehow shield the terrace from the traffic and street, the terrace is very close to the road and it can be noisy and distracting. There were two great bakeries really close to the apartment, I wouldn't recommend the dry cleaners across the street. They were very slow and didn't do a good job with our laundry. The grocery store is in walking distant as long as you don't have a lot of bags to carry, Galeries Lafayette right across the street (dangerous).

Three of us had a wonderful week in this apartment at Annecy. The location was excellent-walking distance to the Old Town, shopping centre and train station. The apartment was spacious, clean, comfortable and well appointed. Rental arrangements were completed with no fuss or bother--owner was a delight to deal with.

5 of us (plus a 14 mo old, pack and play provided) stayed in the apartment for 3 nights in May 2010. The apartment worked out great for us, it was so close to everything. It was very clean, updated, and plenty big enough for all of us. Working with Karen couldn't have been more enjoyable. She was eager to share tips and suggestions over the phone and via e-mail. I would highly recommend staying here. Annecy was probably the best part of our trip. Thanks so much!

Four of us had a very comfortable stay in this appt recently. We found it in a very convenient position, within a good walking distance of places of interest, including the stunning Lac Annecy. Without a car, we took buses to beauitiful Talloires, Clusac & Albertville, these were easy to access at the railway station. The appt itself had everything we needed & a short walk away were shops selling fresh croissants & excellent sandwiches, & with all the restaurants in the old town we needed to do very little cooking, though there was everything in the flat should we have wanted to do so. There was plenty of info regarding the area & things to do. We really enjoyed our stay.

We stayed in this appartmenet for about 10 days in March/April 2009, with my husband and 2 toddlers. I am French and grew up in Annecy, so I know the area inside and out. This appartment is located in what locals call the "Triangle d'Or" area of Annecy which is premium for real estate (superb location). You do not need a car at all. At walking distance, there is a nice grocery store, a bus stop and a train station. You can even get your clothes washed accross the street. There is a typical big farners market weekly accross teh street. As for the night life, you can walk easily to the old town(15-20 min very enjoyable walk, french style). The appartement floor plan is very smart and makes the place feel really big. The appartment is divided by a corridor that separate bedrooms from living quarters. This makes for a very quiet appartment, at night and during the day time. From my standpoint (French person very accustomed to American standard), this is a really nice place, great value. If you are used to Americin standard and have not had a chance to travel to Western Europe, you may feel that the appartment is a bit old and that the kitchen is small. But again, this is really nice for France and the kitchen is absolutely workable. Another nice thing about this place is that it's sturdy and does not have too much breakable items. I felt really confortable with my kids running around. The neighbors are really nice. In my transactions with the owner, everything worked as discussed. Great stay and will definitely recommend to US and French friends.

We stayed in the apartment in August of 2009 with our two children. We loved it -- it is a typical French apartment but it is HUGE by European standards. The location near the lake, the free parking, the garden, and the amenities in the apartment were just great. We also loved Annecy and Haute-Savoie. We highly recommend this rental for either staying in Annecy or for exploring the region.
