Fishing and Hunting: Lake county has 156 lakes. and a few great rivers to trout fish from. Our lake has a large variety of fish and they taste wonderful. The lake is clean and wonderful for swimming and kids. The Pier Marquette
river is only 10 min. away and offers some of the best fishing in all of Michigan. We have catch and release areas, fly fishing areas and open areas as well on the same river. The Pine river is a favorite body of water to many trout fisherman as well.
If you like Perch, we had 2 guest this past year that caught some that were 14 inches. Now that's a perch. I'm still trying to get one and I own the place? What's up with that? I guess they know more about fishing than I do unless they used a fish finder. They did bring their own boats and they did have a fish finder. This lake is connected to 2 others known as the chain of lakes and fishing is excellent for bass, blue gill, perch, walleye, Lake trout, and Pike, sun fish, red eye and muskie and crappie. Great deer hunting.
Snowmobilers/Sled right from the door. : 2011 will be agreat season we just left here this evening and we got 20 inches of snow the last 2 days. It's snowmobile heaven. We constantly get the lake effect and is nothng for us to have snow in April, especially this year. We are in for a hard heavy snow fall and boy do we have it already.
Don't wait call today and reserve your special dates. Get an entire wonderful home with fireplace for a real bargain. Don't forget your sleds, we have hills for thte kids to sled on and you can cross country ski right out the door from miles and miles.
Early Bookings: Note: Anyone who books for a week, 4 to 6 months in advance and pays in full (now) saves $200 off their rent all year long. This applies at both of our lake front homes.

Loon's Ridge is a beautiful cottage on a small lake. The cottage was comfortable and beautifully furnished. The lake is small but wonderful for pontooning and kayaking. It was great for just sitting on the large deck and watching the birds. The owners even filled the bird feeders on the day we arrived so there was plenty of bird acitivity. There was a nice swimming beach for little children and they could swim without worrying about the wake from big boats. We enjoyed kayak races and a luau party on the deck. We spent a week at Loon's Ridge with our family and had a wonderful time. The owners are very attentive to the upkeep of the property and the needs of their guests. We found everything clean and in working order so we just "moved in" and started enjoying our vacation. We definitely hope to return next summer and would recommend the property to others looking for a quiet, relaxing get away.Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+.
Owner response: Thank you so much. We really appreciated having you and we do hope to see you again soon. We must admit it a labor of love and we love to stay ourselves but it's hard for us to sneek the time away. We love to go out of our way to do what ever it takes to make some one feel at home and we certainly enjoy pleasing others. Many of our guest are line family and return each year. We are so glad you had a good time and we look forward to seeing you soon. We hope you enjoy the rest of the summer. Gene & Martha Riggs Retreat and the all new Loons' Ridge Retreat

Every year we rent a house on a lake so my wife and I can spend a week with my adult son and daughter and spouses as well as my granddaughter. We were very fortunate to grab this place before it filled up. The house is very clean and has just about everything you could possibly ask for. A gas grill, a ch. arcoal grill, fish cleaning area, fire pit with chairs, water toys, chairs on the beach, 4 kayaks, a paddle boat and a nice pontoon boat which I spent a ton of time on. The lake is a "no wake" lake which is very nice and make for a very quiet setting. We were there during the record hot spell which effected the fishing but we still caught our share. The deck runs almost the length of the house and is a great place to sit and watch. We had what we believe was an eagle hunting almost daily over the house. Unfortunetly we never met Martha as she made the very best blueberry jam I ever tasted and I wanted to thank her for leaving us a small jar as well as a bottle of wine and some other goodies. The first walleye I ever ate was at Club 37, just north of Baldwin and we ate there but a place a lot closer matched the walleye at Club 37. By all means we recommend Na-Tah-Ka which is across the street from the Marquette Trail golf course which we also used and recommend. We had a fantastic week at Loons Ridge and certainly HIGHLY recommend it. To top everything, I received my entire deposit returned to me just 4 days after returning home. If you are looking for negatives there is infrequent cell service. There is wireless so really no need for a cell most of the time. You certainly need a car and please follow Gene's directions, not a GPS. Big negatives, huh?? Well done Gene and Martha.Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers.

My husband and I just wanted a place to get away from it all before his busy season at work started. We didn't want to stay a full week and they accommodated us by renting us their home for 4 nights. We were greeted on our arrival on Sunday evening by Gene & Martha, the owners of the home. They gave us the tour and told us to make ourselves at home. There was a lovely gift basket for us, too! Everything, and I mean everything we could have possibly needed was provided in that home, including paper plates and trash bags and cooking oil & a fry daddy. There was just the 2 of us, but this 4 year old home had 3 bedrooms and 2 1/2 baths, so we could have brought our entire family, but that was not the point of our renting the place. We had a spectacular view of the lake as the home sits up on a hill. You definately will want to make sure you take everything with you down to the lake as the climb up the steps can tire you out quickly (if you're not in shape). The home sits on Rainbow Lake which connects with Reed Lake. We visited during the last week in May and felt like the lake belonged to us. We only saw about 8 other people around both lakes. We didn't see anyone on their properties, either, so it was like we owned the lake for those 4 days. It is a no wake lake, too, which was awesome. Loon's Ridge has a very nice pontoon boat, which we used a lot because we wanted to fish. It also has kayaks and a pedal boat, which we never used. The fishing wasn't the greatest, but just being on the lake was relaxing. We heard the loons calling every day/night and even saw them many times...what a wonderful sound they make! This home has 2 decks to enjoy...one huge one with a nice patio table and one small one off the master bedroom with a small table and 2 chairs. This home even has internet, which is only hooked up for 6 months of the year and it had not been hooked up, yet, so Gene promptly called and had it hooked up so I could use my laptop for communication, as cell phone service is not the greatest in that area. The internet service was far better than what we have at home. There was just so much to enjoy at Loon's Ridge...we watched the birds on the feeders, we watched movies, ate on the deck, fished from the pontoon, went into Baldwin and bowled at an 8 lane bowling alley, and most of all just enjoyed being alone together and relaxing. If the house is left as clean as it was on arrival there is no cleaning fee, either!Recommended for: Girls getaway, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

This was our first time renting a home away from home. The experience was GREAT and we look forward to doing it again. The listing description was accurate. The property was clean, well-maintained. I brought all of my own pots, pans, dishes, and silverware but that was not necessary for the two of us. Gene and Martha provided great customer service, they greeted us the night we arrived. I would highly recommend this property to friends and family, already have given people link to this website so they can see the property. We didn't do much while we were there, which is exactly what we planned. Thanks again Gene and Martha! We truly enjoyed our stay.Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.
Owner response: These truly are wonderful year around retreats. We love to make our home your home and we love to keep the properties updated in every way possible. We always welcome suggestions and we love to please our guests and their familys. After all it must be a nice, pleasant and fun experience for you and for us. We have been well blessed and we like to pass it along. Gene & Martha.

We recently returned from a wonderful relaxing trip at Riggs resort. We vacationed with our children and grandchildren (ages 2,3, and 4 yrs old). Everyone had a wonderful time. This was our grandchildren's first experience on a lake, and they loved it. The pontoon boat was great, the kids and adults could all go out and fish at the same time. It was very peaceful and quiet. The house was very nicely decorated and maintained well. There were alot of steps between cottage and beach, but we managed nicely. We caught alot of small fish (the little ones loved that). We had a bonfire most every night and roasted marshmallows and hot dogs. We brought most everything with us, so we didn't go into Baldwin except to get ice cream a couple times. Cell phone reception was very spotty until you were close to town, but internet was great, so anyone who had to keep in touch with work had no problem. We will definitely plan another trip in the future for more family time. Thanks Mr and Mrs Riggs for a great place to stay!Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, age 55+.

The description of this property and all that it comes with looked too good to be true, but it wasn't! As good as it looked in the pictures, it was even better in person. The home is new, clean and supplied with everything and more we would ever need to be at home in our vacation home. The owners were very detail minded in how they prepared the house for us, even inlcuding a gift basket with a bottle of wine! Our whole family of four with Grandma too, enjoyed it. The boats were wonderful and the area is quiet and peaceful. It is a pretty steep climb from the house to the beach, but the extra exercise helped us be able to eat even more S-mores around the camp fire! Great spot, we would easily go again. We have already recommended this property to friends.Recommended for: Families with young children, romantic getaway.
