Architectural Ocean Front Gem on Best Beach in Virginia Beach
- Minimum stay:2-7 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:No
This luxurious oceanfront home has stunning views of the best beach in Virginia Beach. Nestled in a grove of live oaks and pine trees, this property feels like a private retreat from the moment you round the corner of the driveway. 3,100+ square feet on five levels plus three decks, two garden areas, a grove of live oaks, and playground for children give ample space for individuals in a large group to have moments of quiet retreat, making this home ideal for reunions, family gatherings, weddings and other special events. Inspired by the Norfolk residency of Frank Lloyd Wright in 1953, and designed by local architect, Herbert Smith, this home is registered on the Virginia Beach Historic Register.
A fully furnished rooftop deck has what is often described as “the best view in Virginia Beach”. This is where the dolphin watching boats stop to view our favorite mammals and you can watch them at any time from the comfort of your dining room or rooftop deck! Cook on the deck with the small gas grill or cook in the kitchen and send up the food in the dumb waiter! And enjoy a perfect view of the weekly city fireworks, as well as sunrises, sunsets and full moons.
Both full bathrooms provide spa like experiences, with tubs that provide aeromassage, dynamic turbo massage and chromatherapy. Toilets are located in “water closets” separated from the cleansing shower and tub area, which allows a bather to relax undisturbed. Dimmers in the bathrooms and throughout the house let you create mood lighting whenever and wherever you want.
Listed with Green Vacation Hub as an exemplary green vacation rental, this Green home was newly renovated in 2006 to Energy Star and LEED ReGreen standards with top of the line Energy Star appliances and excellent windows and insulation to provide greater indoor comfort. A whole house water filter provides chemical free water even for your showers! There are no VOCs in the finishes so this is the perfect home for anyone with chronic allergies or asthma.
A spacious hot and cold exterior shower and changing space helps you clean after the beach. Two bikes, fishing poles, and badminton are available. A beach cart makes it easy to carry small children and their toys, umbrellas, chairs, and snacks to the beach. Bring or rent a surfboard or kayak. Surfing is allowed before 10:00 a.m. and after 4:00 p.m. daily.
The grounds offer numerous places to retreat outside: a playground for the kids, a hammock in the shade of the holly tree, two patios, one on the east side and one on the west, a pond with goldfish, and a garden that is a nationally recognized wildlife habitat, full of flowers and bushes that attract and feed butterflies and hummingbirds.
This cul de sac has no traffic and is primarily year round residents. An entrance to First Landing State Park is two blocks away. Downtown with all its activities is only 3 miles away, a safe and easy bike ride on the access road. The Virginia Aquarium, Auto World bumper cars and Ocean Breeze Water Park are only 6 miles. Busch Gardens, Water Country and historic Williamsburg, Yorktown and Jamestown are an hour away.
There are two TVs with Dish Network plus DVD players, movies, and board/card games for rainy days. WiFi is provided. A solar and wind powered clothes dryer is available. Crib, high chair, booster chair, infant seat for outdoor swingset, and diaper pail are available.
No Smoking. Leave outside shoes at the door as this is the single most important way to protect indoor air quality. Multiple levels and many steps make this inaccessible for the handicapped and uncomfortable for those with mobility issues. Dogs are permitted on a case by case basis; shaded, fenced dog yard can be shared with owner’s dogs.
During winter 2012-2013, Owner is living on the third level [far right of photograph] so only three bedrooms are available: Seaside room, Chameleon Room and blue bedroom on the fourth level, with a maximum of ten beds. Separate entrances and privacy doors at each level provide plenty of separation. Kitchen is shared. Until July 2013.
Sandswept is a multilevel level house with four floors plus ground floor. Access to Pelican room on top and the rooftop deck is via circular stairs.

What a wonderful time we had in your house... The view here is awesome, beautiful, brilliant.... The house is a treasure and we could have the pleasure to see the dolphins swimming in the ocean while having breakfast. We enjoy everything there, the dogs, the owner and the place... and very moment. (excerpt from guest logbook)Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

It's been a wonderful week! We have certainly enjoyed Virginia Beach and your hospitality. Thanks for allowing pets into your home as our Yorkie has enjoyed her vacation as well. Hopefully this guest book will be a reminder of the many friendships you will develop, who like us, have had the opportunity to enjoy your home. This home and it's especially lovely owner provide amazing views, comfort and unique experiences while in Virginia Beach. We saw dolphins playing close-by right from the dining room table. It's a very eco-friendly place too, so you can learn and experience what it's like to live/stay in a home that is harmonious with the earth- very cool! I so appreciated staying here!Recommended for: Families with young children, sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway.

I have known the owner for 20 years and have had the pleasure of visiting with her at this "jewel" of a home for many years. Seeing this home before and after the 2006 remodeling, I can attest to its unique beauty, charm and location. When I remarried in 2008, Gayle graciously offered her home as our reception venue, providing the absolute PERFECT setting. This home provides all the amenities, location and opportunities for a perfect vacation or wedding. All it needs is you with your family and friends to create an unforgettable experience!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, pet owners, families with young children, families with teenagers, girls getaway.

This was the PERFECT place to have my wedding. We had the ceremony on the beach and the reception at the house. Everything was perfect, low traffic on the beach and the guests really loved the patio and the crows nest. Gayle was completely accommodating and really helped us to feel at home, especially in the kitchen as we did all our food prep in the house. There was plenty of room for everyone to mingle and the scenery can't be beat. It is a beautiful, wonderful, space and I highly recommend it for your nuptials or just a nice family getaway.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, sightseeing, families with teenagers, girls getaway.
