If you are looking for a great apartment rental in Paris, look no further! My husband and I stayed here with our 5-yr-old for a week this spring. Everything was just as described and then some. Well-maintained and comfortable apt--with equipped kitchen and all the linens, supplies one needed. The area was wonderful. I think we were the only American tourists in the quartier which made the experience even better. Metro was two blocks away and from that Metro Line 1, we never made more than one connection to get to any of the major Paris sites. Two bus lines stopped right on the corner too. And the Bois de Vincennes? Incredible! Just perfect for families. St. Mandé and Vincennes are just lovely--filled with bakeries, butchers, cafes, and all the shops one could want. Monoprix two blocks away was a plus too and the Sunday and Thursday morning markets (and the unique "old papers" market on Wednesdays too) were wonderful--certainly as charming as any market in central Paris. Would not hesitate to recommend this VRBO listing! Can't wait to stay here again on future trips. Thank you so much, Jennifer!

The apartment is well appointed with all the necessities you may need, the subway is a block and half away and takes you to nearly to every attraction Paris has to offer. The owner was very helpful with information and was always answered our mails fast and to the point. We had a great time in Paris and a great part of it was the fact that we had worry free place to crash after every long and fun day. Thanks Jennifer!

We really enjoyed our time at this apartment. St Mande is a fabulous area - not busy but with enough cafes, boutiques and boulangeries around. There is a large Monoprix and a Picard (fantastic ready prepared meals for when you decide to eat at home). There is also a wonderful park nearby. Being on line 1, you can scoot to the centre and the sites in a matter of minutes. we really liked returning to the apartment and the calm after the bustle of the centre. The apartment itself as exactly as described. not luxurious but comfortable and very spacious for Paris. All in all, great value for a great Parisian neighbourhood.

My family of 5 stayed at this rental for 4 nights. Jennifer provided excellent instructions to us for locating the unit. The rental was clean and well maintained. It was close to the train station and the bakery was close by. The unit was accurately reflected in the photos. Having a washer and internet were great features that made our stay much more enjoyable. Jennifer gave us several suggetions via email that were helpful while touring Paris. I would recommend this unit for other families.

We just arrived home after a 9 day stay in this lovely apartment in Saint Mande. Everything is just as pictured in the ad, and the apartment is warm, comfortable and a great base from which to explore Paris. Additionally, the apartment was very clean when we arrived. Jennifer was totally helpful before our stay and during our time there -- we had some connection problems with the internet when we arrived, but there is a contact person in the building, so after explaining the situation, they were kind enough to call Jennifer, who contacted us immediately. Everything you need is within a 5-10 minute walk. We visited Monoprix several times and loved the food and produce there as well as at the stands in the neighborhood. Transportation is excellent, with Metro Line 1 a couple of blocks away, Bus 56 (which stopped literally in front of the apartment) and Bus 86 nearby. There was always plenty of hot water for our morning showers and places to put all our toiletries. The bed was comfortable and the flannel sheets were a welcome touch because it was cold during our visit. There is no street noise because the apartment is set back behind another building. Cooked a few meals and found the kitchen was amply stocked and all appliances worked just as the instructions which were left. We loved having the two bedrooms, and used the second bedroom only for our suitcases and coats. The apartment is roomy with comfortable furniture. We couldn't have asked for more. The Bois de Vincennes is about 5 minutes walk from the apartment and is lovely. In short, we would recommend the apartment to couples as well as families and have already recommended it to another frequent Paris traveler. Thanks again Jennifer -- we had an absolutely fabulous time and really enjoyed our stay !!!!!!!

It was so relaxing to have an apartment to come back to after a hectic day sightseeing in Paris. The area & apartment are exactily as Jennifer described in her listing. The metro was very convenient for travel and the neighborhood stores had everyting a shopper could want to purchase. Jennifer is a pleasure to work with - very helpful and accommodating when we asked for extra time at the apartment. She also left directions on how to operate the tv, washing machine, etc. so that there were no questions as to how to operate the apartment equipment. We had a wonderful time in the apartment and would definitely recommend the accommodation to anyone wanting an apartment in Paris. We would definitely stay there again.

What a great location from which to explore Paris! We spent five nights in this apartment. It was comfortable and quiet, well equipped for our family of four. The grocery is a couple minutes away, and the Thursday/Sunday Market at the St. Mande Metro station has lots of great fresh produce, meat and baked goods. We were first time Paris vacationers and the #1 Metro line, which provides direct access to many great Paris sites, is five minutes walk. Other lines are accessible from the #1 as well, making seeing all of Paris easy (in addition to access to and from the airports via the RER train). We would definitely stay in Jennifer's apartment again.

Email received 4/28/10: Dear Jennifer,I want to let you know that my family and I had a fantastic experience in Paris, thanks in part to your cozy apartment in St. Mande. Your home gave us a slice of Parisien life seldom experienced by tourists, I hate to mention anything good about your place on VRBO, fearing that too many people will know about it so that the next time I'm there I won't have a chance of renting it. However, I will be unselfish and place an honest comment on VRBO. Your place is the best kept secret in Paris. Many thanks,Nora Lee

Jennifer, your cozy apartment gave my family and I a memorable experience. Your directions to the apartment was explicit and simple to follow. The location was ideal. We had a chance to experience a typical Parisien day- from stopping at Cafe le Cyrano for a cup of creme to purchasing food at the Monoprix and the Sunday farmer's market. The Bois the Vincennes is a lovely place for a picnic and for my son and husband to practice baseball. We felt safe there even when walking home from the Metro at 1:30am. The apartment itself is clean and spacious. I will definitely stay there again. Many thanks from the Felice family

Email received 3/18/10: Jennifer, Thank you so much for your apartment in Paris. It was a cherished experience, and you have a very comfortable apartment in a wonderful location. As you know one of my greatest concerns was how safe a location it was located in. We didn't have the least bit of concern for safety. It is in a very upscale section of Paris, and on a very public street (yet protected from the noise of the street by the building in front) with all the building security that anyone would need. We appreciate your cousin giving us permission to leave our luggage in the apartment until late afternoon on checkout day, and hope that didn't cause any conflict with the cleaning service, or with guests that were to use the apartment after we left. We had a wonderful time in Paris, and your apartment was one of key elements of that great experience. Truly a glimpse into the Parisian lifestyle!!! We Loved it. Dan

Email received 3/13/10: Thank you, Jennifer, for a lovely stay in St. Mande. We stayed Feburary 11th to the 15th--right in the middle of winter. Your apartment was so comfortable, warm, SPACIOUS, luminous, and perfect. The beds were comfortable; the apartment is quiet; and it felt so good after a day exploring to return to our "home away from home." From the explicit and handy directions, to the site-seeing books, to the handy kitchen, everything went so smoothly. The neighborhood is lovely for walking, site-seeing, and shopping, as well as convenient to the Metro. We truly appreciate your hospitality. Finally, you were so helpful in answering email questions and the deposit and payment process was so secure and convenient. We hope we left everything in good order, and turly appreciated the great value of your property. Thanks again for helping to make our girls' vacation a memorable one. Dear Jennifer. Hope you found everything Ok in the apartment. It was a great experience. Area is safety; supermarket is very close and very easy to go downtown by M1. We were in 4 other hotels in Europe in the last 22 days and sure your apartment was the better place for our stay. We felt it really as a home and not as a hotel. Sure we can return in the next time. Dear JenniferIt’s amazing how we can put things off. On our way home on the plane, I started to jot down some thoughts on your Paris Apartment rental. Tom and I are avowed Francophiles. There is no other place we would rather spend a vacation than France. Paris, of course is frequently topmost on our list. The first three or four times we traveled to Paris we stayed in various hotels. Then, we discovered the Paris apartment and the flexibility that apartment rental provides. Then, of course, we found your apartment on VRBO.What a treat our fall trip was. From the get-go, your excellent directions brought us to the apartment quickly and easily. The elevator, though admittedly teeny facilitated getting to the apartment with our suitcases. In the past, we have climbed as much as 3 flights of stairs in Paris with our suitcases so we know what that can be like. The apartment itself has all the comforts of home and is perfect for a Paris stay, I think what we appreciated the most was the location. I had not been to ST. Mande before but loved the area, its safety, local amenities and proximity to the Metro system. We loved that within one block we had access to: a large grocery store, drugstore, and several flower shops, large fruit vendor, excellent cheese shop, several terrific butchers and of course the local market twice a week which we fell in love with. Oops, I forgot the bakeries, the hairdresser, and the corner café ( Royal Comptoir)where we ate many evenings when we were too tired to venture out. Both food and service were great. All in all a good Paris experience and I hope this review doesn’t bring too much traffic to your door. I would hate to find it booked too far in advance because we plan to come back. regards,Helen And Tom in Charlottetown, PEI

Hi Jennifer Have returned home to Australia and was very keen to thank-you for the use of your beautiful apartment in St Mande. I will never forget the feeling of relief when I opened the door. It had such a wonderful Parisian feel and a beautiful ambiance. The position was so convenient to everything, we had some beautiful walks and yes we mastered the metro. No one could have prepared me for the enormous crowds in Paris. It was such a delight to come home to the apartment at the end of a big day out. Your library was great with lots of information that assisted our day trips. We donated some Paris books for your collection. Cups and bags we received from the conference have also been donated. Once again thank-you for playing such a big part in a great experience. I will look forward to recommending your apartment to my friends and colleagues. Regards, Glenda

Hi Jennifer, I am sorry that it has taken me so long to send this e-mail, but I wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed renting your apartment. What a perfect location for us to explore Paris, and live among Parisians. We loved having the kitchen available, so we could eat breakfast before heading out for a day of sightseeing. The living room was perfect for relaxing when we got home. My older son was our "official tour guide," and appreciated having the tour books available so he could navigate us through the Marais and Montmartre. St. Mande is a great location, so close to the metro; we explored the patisseries and boulangeries and ate more than our share of baguettes! Thank you, for the opportunity to stay in your lovely apartment. Best regards, Maureen

This apartment definitely is the "Best Kept Secret in Paris"; it is spacious, quiet, clean, all the appliances function perfectly, and even has TV & Internet connection! The best thing we liked about our stay is the apt. is very close to Metro #1 which can take you to all the tourists' attractions. The rental fee is shockly reasonable. The owner Jennifer is a very pleasant, kind, and easy to talk to lady. We will definitely go back to her apt. again. Kathryn Gelston from Moraga, CA

We had a terrific trouble free stay in this apartment in July 2005. All the owner's arrangements worked perfectly and we even had a call to make sure all was well. Everything said about the location and its ambience, atmosphere and convenience were true and we would happily stay here again if visiting Paris in the future - hope it doesn't get too popular !! Many thanks.

First of all, I would like to thank the owner for letting us stay in her apartment from May 25-29, 2005. This, by far, the "best kept secret in town." This was our first trip to Paris and we were glad that we had the opportunity to stay in St. Mande. I just love the entire neighborhood (brasserie, bakeries, chocolate shop, banks with ATM and of course Monoprix). Let's not forget the beautiful park. The neighborhood is very quite and safe. The apartment itself is a GEM. The apartment is tacked behind another apartment which also served as a noise buffer from the main street. There's ample space for the 5 of us. The size of the bedrooms are quite comfortable and I enjoyed leaving the windows open at night. The layout of the apartment is perfect. I thoroughly enjoyed the St. Mande open market. One evening we packed our picnic basket and went to Eiffel Tower. Most of the picnic goods were purchased from the open market (3 different types of cheeses, savory petit pies, an assortment of fruits and cold cuts). Monoprix filled in the rest (wine and bread). I liked this market better than the one in the Bastille area. The accessibility to the #1 Metro is definitely a plus. I have one minor comment that can easily be fixed. The direction we received from the owner was good except for one thing. When you get to the corner of Charles de Gaulle and Victor Hugo, there is no street sign we found that showed "Victor Hugo". I would like to suggest adding landmarks as well; such as, the brasserie in the corner. The next time I visit Paris, I will check the availability of this apartment first before venturing on to other accommodations. Prior to our trip, the owner had provided highlights of the neighborhood. She's been very prompt in responding to my emails. I thoroughly enjoyed working with the owner. Thanks again.
Owner response:Thanks Edna, I enjoyed working with you, too! I'm so glad you had a great time. The landmark idea is a good one; there is a brasserie on the corner called 'Royale St Mande'. The street signs in France are attached to the buildings and not on the streets.

(6/2/05)My girlfriend and I, along with another couple, just returned from a week long visit to Paris. Our discovery of this little gem of an apartment came by way of a glowing recommendation from a friend who had recently stayed there. I think we had an even better experience. At a time when the dollar is shrinking against the Euro, this apartment was an exceptional value. Quite frankly, we were much more comfortable staying here, than in an expensive Paris hotel. It's quite well kept up and there's lots of room to relax. Typically, after a day of sightseeing, we'd retire to the living room, open a bottle of wine, put out some locally made cheeses and baugette, turn the stereo to a jazz station, and talk about our daily adventures. The neighborhood is picturesque yet free of the usual tourist trappings. Nobody is trying to sell you an Eiffel Tower keychain or Mona Lisa shot glass. Just arount the corner there is a typical Parisian bistro, a cafe, and a bakery. The Metro is a couple minutes walk away. Across from the Metro is a bank with a favorable exchange rate and 24-hour teller machine. A farmer's market sets up twice a week right out on the street with just about every fresh food and variety of flowers you can imagine. One word of warning, to get to the Metro you must walk past a gauntlet of bakeries, chocolate shops, and other food merchants who perform daily works of culinary artistry. I gave into temptation at every opportunity and they were all amazing. I actually have dreams about fresh baked almond crescents.

I'm not much of a cook, but cooking breakfast in the kitchen with the windows thrown wide open felt more like home than home does (and if no one wants to eat your cooking, there are also two cafes right around the corner). Loved that we could walk around in the neighborhood any time of day or night and not worry about a thing. And the Bois de Vincennes . . . you could spend a week doing nothing but walking around that park and still not see it all!

Just returned from Paris. The apartment is just as advertised. It is clean, spacious enough, and the owner is very helpful. I loved the location, in an upscale area with no tourists; a Parisian neighborhood with all amenities on the #1 Line with easy access to everything. Bois de Vincennes is a beautiful nearby park. I enjoyed how quiet it was at night to sleep. With two teenagers in tow, it felt extremely safe.

Easily the best place I’ve ever stayed in Paris, both from a comfort and value point of view (having done hotels and inns previously). The apartment is cute, quaint and extremely comfortable and it’s amazingly convenient to the #1 Metro line - in a 200 yard walk back from the station, you pass a bank, a couple of bakeries, a market (when open), a grocery store, a clothing store and a couple of cafes. If you really need one, you can even order yourself a Porsche from the dealer a few doors past the building, even though you’d never know there was a dealership unless you looked straight through its window!!!! I loved the park near the apartment – very easy walking distance, big enough in which to get lost and has enough stuff for kids of any age to do (they have a shallow duck pond that sits in the middle of a track like area along with a full size merry-go-round). My favorite part was throwing on my sneakers and jogging up the street to, around and into the Chateaux Vincennes – it’s a real Louis XIV castle that had me wondering why on earth I’d ever subjected myself to the tourist madness and hassle of a place like Versailles. Won’t make that mistake again - The apartment itself is well furnished and like the rest of Paris, quite romantic. It's roomy enough but cozy at the same time, sunny, open and airy. Convenience to the #1 Metro line can’t be overstated – every major attraction in Paris is off the #1 line – the Tour d’Eiffel, the Arc de Triomphe, Notre Dame, the Louvre, the Musee D’Orsey, Place de la Concorde, etc. I highly recommend it – if I were writing a Consumer Reports article on places to stay in Paris, this place would get my vote for a CR best buy!!!

Your apartment was excellent for us! It was secure, very comfortable, clean, large, well equipped and very nicely located. I had wanted to find an apartment outside the tourist crowd yet conveniently close to the sites. I was very pleasantly surprised to have met my goal and more. The Saint Mande township is a find! I strolled over to the city hall(Marie)and got a monthly newsletter to see what the locals do. I also, toured the Bois De Vicennes and the Chateau. A friendly neighborhood with 11 bakeries is also a fine place to be! You and your family are extremely responsive, helpful and gracious. I felt completely at home! Thanks for all your help...We had fabulous time! I'd love to be back soon!

Jennifer, We just returned to the States Friday morning early--around 12:30 a.m., and we're still trying to catch up with the jet lag. But we wanted you to know that we LOVED staying in your apartment!! It was everything you said and more. And Christine was gracious, helpful and enthusiastic in our few conversations. The apartment was a nice respite to come home to, whether it was in the middle of the day or at night. And it was cool with the windows open, just as you said. The markets were truly a French experience, and our Patrick loved going to bargain and figure out what they were saying. Both of our kids have taken 4 or 5 years of French, so it was fun hearing them speak to the locals and see their reaction. They were ALWAYS engaging and encouraging them to speak it correctly, which we all enjoyed. The sites were incredible and lots of fun to visit. And we were extremely fortunate with the weather. We only had one day of overcast skies, and light misting rain at night. Otherwise, our entire trip was sunny, warm and beautiful. Couldn't have asked for better anything. Thanks again for sharing your beautiful home with us. We appreciate it, and who knows, we may return sooner than you think! Take care, and good luck with your future rentals. Phyllis

It is very spacious, clean, and well-equipped, and is also conveniently situated near the metro station, supermarket, and several cafes. I particularly enjoyed walking by the lake and going to the street markets on Thursdays and Sundays. Staying in an apartment is a great way to experience Paris while still having all the comforts of home, and I would highly recommend this one!

We stayed in this apt. in early June and found it to be wonderful. The fresh fruit stand on the way to the Metro line was great and we bought chocolat pain for breakfast two mornings. I made a full breakfast for my family (6 of us) one morning, eggs, and toast etc. from groceries bought at the Monoprix just down the street and using the cookware in the Apt. The pull out bed worked great for my two sons and the place still felt pretty roomy! There was a kind of flea market like thing right by the metro entrance on the Sunday morning we were there. The person taking care of the apt was kind and understanding. It was a very nice place to stay. I have only been back a couple weeks, and I have already recommended it to a friend.
