"La Lavande" is modern, extremely practical, all-on-one-level villa (150 m2), with its own private (not overlooked) pool, in an enclosed garden, just one kilometer from the medieval village of Dieulefit - (or "God-made-it" - He did!) The area is hilly (alt: 350 metres), or mountainous to the north, and lush with forests and fields of lavender. Its natural authenticity is charming.
"La Drôme Provençale" has a particularly rich cultural heritage, and Le Poët-Laval, a few minutes along the valley, was a base for the crusading Order of Knights of Jerusalem (Knights of Malta); it is officially "One of the Most Beautiful Villages in France." Avignon is an hour away, and gems such as the Roman ruins at Vaison la Romaine, the Château de Grignan, the Mont-Ventoux and the Fontaine de Vaucluse are all within reach. Montélimar in the Rhône valley, the nearest large town, is the world capital of nougat! - based on the local honey, milk and almonds.
Demande for "La Lavande" is heavy in July-August, when many in France take their holidays, but the house is available all year: guests from Hong Kong spent Christmas 2003 there, for example, and were delighted to find no tourists! |
