Welcome to Casa Suerte ('Luck'). The location of our three-story home combines the best of both worlds—beach and town. In the heart of Sayulita, with stunning ocean views, Casa Suerte offers an exclusive corner just a minute's walk from great restaurants, a variety of shops, and the colorful town plaza. The beach is a two or three minute stroll from the front door.
Casa Suerte is made up of two self contained levels for $99/night each June 1 - Nov 15 or one can rent the whole house (both levels and rooftop) for $195/night. Winter/spring rates are $135/night or $900/week (holiday rates are $150/night Dec. 15 - Jan 10).
Designed by a renowned local architect, Casa Suerte combines light, views, art, and functionality in a delightful way. Every level has wonderful ocean views.
The street entrance opens into a peaceful garden and cobblestoned area with secure parking. A spiral staircase leads to each of the home's three levels, all beautiful and unique with open floor plans.
Upper level 1 has great ocean views and includes a full kitchen with large hand-crafted counters, queen bed, twin day bed, comfy chair that turns into single cot with mattress, comfortable chairs and an eating bar with stools. A lovely garden area with a soothing fountain leads to a full bathroom featuring local stonework and artisan-made fixtures. French doors open to a spacious patio equipped with a dining set, comfortable chairs, and ocean views. This level has air conditioning as well as ceiling fans.
Upper level 1 is ideal for those who like to cook, and who enjoy ample outdoor 'living' space. The ocean view has some wires but is very nice an open. It rents for $99 - $135/night for two people. An additional $25 per day is charged for each adult beyond the first two. Sleeps up to four in beds ( the cot is width of a standard pillow so fairly narrow). There is no charge for a child; $25 per day for two children.
The Upper Level 2 apartment has great ocean views and includes a kitchenette, king bed, twin bed, full bathroom, deck and private garden patio area. Windows and French doors open on each side creating an airy, beautiful and peaceful environment. On the ocean side, large glass French doors open onto a deck offering wonderful views of the ocean, village, and mountainous coastline. Another set of glass doors open onto a lush private garden with a table, chairs and water feature. The room includes comfortable chairs for reading and relaxing. The small kitchenette is simple and ideal for those do not plan to cook a lot. It includes a refrigerator, microwave, sink, coffee pot, blender, pots/pans, cutlery, utensils, dishes, and hot plate. A beautiful wood armoire houses a small television and space for clothing. This level also has air conditioning and ceiling fans.
The Upper Level 2 is ideal for those whose emphasis would be on views over extensive cooking. It is $99-$135/night for two people. It is not available January 15 - March 15, 2015. $25/per person per day is charged for additional adults (beyond 2). There is no additional charge for a child. Maximum of three people.
The rooftop terrace has a breathtaking 360-degree view of the town, ocean, and surrounding mountains. Equipped with chaise lounges and a comfortable outdoor couch, it is ideal for sunbathing, reading, napping, and watching the sunset. While the Upper Levels 1 and 2 are private, this is a shared level.
An additional sleeping room off the garden/cobblestone entrance area is available for an additional $35/night. It includes a queen bed, armoire, chair and fans. It's one level up off of the street and is private.
Every level of the home has incredible views, but the rooftop is a favorite place to watch the sun rise, sip coffee, and listen to the town slowly waken. From our perch, we can watch whales migrate, hear the waves, see if the surf's up, and feel the pulse of Sayulita. In the evening, as the day slows, we drink margaritas, snack on tacos from the local stands, watch children play in the streets, and enjoy the sunset.
At night, you are minutes from Sayulita's vibrant night life where you can enjoy great restaurants and cafes, food stands that open only in the evenings and live music. And, every Monday is Salsa night at Don Pedros on the beach.
We keep our prices very reasonable for the quality and size of our house so that others can enjoy our wonderful location, home, and the fabulous village of Sayulita.
We hope you choose to stay at Casa Suerte (translated from Spanish: the House 'of' Luck). Welcome.
We have had several families with infants, toddlers, and older who have found our property well-suited to kids--especially compared to other properties in Mexico. There are railings and barriers on balconies but we recommend, of course, to always keep an eye on small children. ...moreless

A couple minutes from the beach, guests enjoy surfing and paddle boarding (lessons are available as well), sea kayaking and snorkeling. One may rent equipment in many places.
Yoga studios and classes are numerous as are Spanish classes.
One can take a boat from the beach for fishing, whale watching, and snorkeling, or go to Punta Mita or La Cruz for departure for similar tours. Many boats include trips to the Marietta Islands, a great place to swim and snorkel.
A favorite hike is a path that leads north through the jungle to San Pancho (town north of Sayulita) or one can also walk along the ocean and beaches to San Pancho. We like the jungle hike as it's very quiet and peaceful, with wildlife (coati, butterflies, birds) and wonderful ocean views at crests (and lots of shade).
For excellent live music, we have two recommendations. Don Pedros, a restaurant two blocks from our house on the beach, has wonderful live Cuban music every Monday night along with Salsa lessons and on Thursday nights Latcho and Andrea, 'The Blonde Gypsies,' perform. Additional live music is available in a beautiful venue on the beach at San Pancho where one can watch the sun set into the ocean and enjoy hundreds of birds in a fresh water lagoon while listening... semi wild horses often run on this beach adding to the magic and charm of the setting. Latcho and Andrea perform on Tuesdays, traditional Mexican/Mariachi music is on Thursdays and Cuban music is on Sundays (starting @ 6pm).
For a day trip, one can take the bus or taxi to Puerto Vallarta for shopping and sight seeing (Old Town is most interesting perhaps). From the PV area, one can take a boat out to Yelapa, a quiet beach community with nice beaches. Another day trip would be to rent a car and go to San Sabastian, a former mining town that once had 40,000 people, and now has less than 1,000. It's an interesting, historic mountain town about 1 hour from Sayulita in a very different environment (pine trees, higher altitude terrain, cooler). The largest city near Sayulita, Tepic, offers little of interest to us and is a fairly long drive (few hours), but near there is a beautiful lake formed in a crater that's quite nice.
Year Purchased: 2003
About the owner: We live in Ashland, OR where we have lived for over 30 years. We met at Southern Oregon University where John was the Dean of the School of Business and I worked in Admissions as Associate Director. We share a love of Mexico-- its people and culture--and discovered the beautiful village of Sayulita while on a coastal trip we took with our friend, Nathan, while John was teaching at the university in Ashland's sister city, Guanajuato. We are active with SayulitAnimals and have rescued and placed over 24 puppies and dogs locally. We also own a seasonal cafe in Ashland, which we've had for 14 years, an on-line feather business, and own and manage several local properties.
Why the Owner Chose Sayulita: Location! We immediately fell in love with Sayulita our first trip there and wanted to make it our home away from home. After looking at dozens of rentals and homes, decided that this house and its location were exactly what we wanted. We are both very view oriented and this house has great views of the village and ocean from every level. We also wanted a house close to the beach and the village cafes and shops so we could walk out our door and be at any of these places within an easy 1 to 2 minute stroll. And, we love great architecture and this house is beautiful, has great architectural detail and is solidly built. We bought the house directly from the owners who had it built for themselves and who put great care and love into each detail.
The Unique Benefits at this House: There are so many details about this house we love. I especially love the views from the upper level 2 bedroom as you lie on the bed. To my right I have a beautiful view of the ocean, and to my left a full view of our peaceful lush garden and water feature through the huge glass french doors. My husband loves the spacious front patio on the upper 1 level where he can perch and look out over the village and ocean and read. And we both love the rooftop patio which looks out over the entire area. It's great to watch the world wake up with your coffee, or watch it slowly quiet down as you sip your evening wine or margarita. During the day we bask on the rooftop in the sun and nap in the shade under the palapa. And I so love the unique little alcoves, arches, hand crafted counters, spiral copper faucets, and little details that are all over the house, inside and out.
And, of course we love the fact that we can walk to the beach in a couple minutes, or dash out to the store and be back in four or five minutes.
We also really appreciate that we are surrounded by families who have lived in Sayulita for generations. We've just had our house for about 12 years, but we feel a part of the community there, and love to hear bits of Spanish and laughter floating on the air.
We are also fortunate in that our house feels very safe and secure; I and my women friends are very comfortable staying alone here. Our manager and housekeeper grew up in Sayulita; they have many friends and neighbors who also keep an eye on our property adding a level of security for which we feel blessed.
