The charm, comfort, and beautiful setting of our vintage Northwoods log cabin will make your cares melt away. Our cabin sits so close to the water, you'll feel like you're floating on stunning Lake Wabedo. Inside the home, you're treated to comfortable furnishings, a well-appointed kitchen, and amazing views of the lake from nearly every room in the house; outside, you're literally steps away from swimming, paddling, and world-class fishing.

What will you do with your day? Watch the sky turn early-morning pink over the lake without even leaving your bed. Enjoy your coffee from the lakeside deck in the company of the many birds that visit our feeders. Perhaps you'll head out in the canoe to visit Fish Island, or explore the winding channel that connects Lake Wabedo to Little Boy Lake. Bring or rent a boat and fish the waters of them both, nearly 2600 acres total, and reel in everything from panfish to walleye to trophy-sized muskie (of course, fishing's not bad from our dock either). Enjoy a cool drink and watch the kids swim off the dock while you relax in a chaise lounge. In the evening, take in the sunset from the deck and listen to the ghostly call of the loons.

Should the weather be inclement, no worries--our cabin has a spacious open floor plan, and everything in it has been carefully chosen with comfort and relaxation in mind. There's plenty of comfortable seating for everyone to hang out and watch a movie, play a game, or just enjoy the company of good friends and family.

Feel the need to get out? Visit one of many charming nearby towns, including Longville, just a few miles away and home to world-famous turtle races! Hit the links at nearby Ridgewood Golf Course, or putt-putt at Birdie's in Longville. Try your luck at the Northern Lights Casino in Walker, or take in a movie at the Bear Pause Theater. Hike or bike the many local trails, and visit Deep Portage Conservation Reserve for a variety of outdoor activities and classes.

Whatever you choose, the backdrop for it all is the calling loons, towering pines, and lapping waters of Lake Wabedo. You will leave feeling rested, rejuvenated . . . and eager to come back.

Our family of four mid-thirty and mid-sixty year old's spent a long weekend at Wabedo Cabin in late September. The cabin was as charming, comfortable and thoughtfully furnished as we had expected. The countryside, wildlife, autumn colors, and general ambiance were over and above what we had anticipated, even having read the reviews! We hiked gently sloping trails and canoed when we were't hiking. We saw beaver, eagles, loons and other waterfowl on the lake. At the end of the day we paddled into the sunset while the occasional fish rippled the water, then headed back for cooking and conversation. We were able to put together some very good meals in the well appointed kitchen, and read ourselves to sleep in wonderfully comfortable beds. Brilliantly colored foliage illuminated by the rising sun and reflected in the mirror-smooth lake is my take away visual for the weekend. Wabedo Cabin is the very essence of it's locale. Thank you, Kirk and Shannon, for finding that essence and making it comfortably available. Ours was a wonderful family weekend.

Just what a cabin in the north woods should be like. built in the 40s, so it was close to the Lake. Owners maintained the historical character of the cabin, plus additions, etc. : yet provided modern amenities, i.e. WiFi and cable TV, plus an electric boat lift. cabin well-eauipped for whatever we needed. fishing was spotty and we had trouble finding the right spots. Nice touches of the owners' personality. We used the deck to entertain and just enjoy. Slept in the "other" bedroom so we could hear the waves and the wind. Lake beautiful and good views in and out of the cabin. There's a good golf course down the road. Longville is quaint small town. No recommended restaurants. for that we went to Walker. We would recommend to others.

Recommended for: Girls getaway, age 55+, families with young children.

Owner response: Thank you for our very first review of a month-long stay at Wabedo Cabin! We're so glad you got a kick out of the vintage character of the cabin -- we've tried hard to balance 1940's style with 2010's amenities. Regarding dining out, I agree. Walker, MN (just half an hour from the cabin) does have some tasty restaurants and is also a fun place to knock around for an afternoon. That said, I remain a big fan of the Cowboy Burger at The Anchorage, just up the road from the cabin ;) One note for future renters: the boat lift is not typically included in the cabin rental and was provided to these guests in consideration of their lengthy stay.

The character and thoughtful touches throughout this beautiful cabin were absolutely perfect! The weather was sunny every day so my mom, sister and I were able to enjoy the great deck and read romance novels. The boys, my husband and dad, were out fishing morning, afternoon and night! I have to say we have come to the Longville area for over 20 years and this year they loved the fun of actually catching fish! Dad caught a nice 4 pound small off the dock along with many sunnies! In the boat they reeled in bass, walleye, northern and sunnies throughout the week. The hot weather brought with it humidity -- 90 plus degrees all week and severe thunderstorms! We lost power Monday night through late Tuesday afternoon but had a good time by flashlight playing cards and trivia games. I guess it was a blessing being cut off from the tech world we live in today to spend some quality time with the fam! We have a tradition of dinners while Up North consisting of chop sue, homemade spaghetti and meatballs, pulled pork, filet mignon and of course burgers and brats! No trip to Longville would be complete without a visit to Frostys in town. A sincere THANK YOU to the Busters for the beautiful cabin and amenities and allowing us to create another year of a fabulous family vacation! Cheers!

What a wonderful week. We saw so many birds and of all different kinds. Thank goodness for the bird book so that we knew [what] we were looking at -- gold finches, chickadees, loons, herons. Baby loons really fun to watch. We made great use of the canoe and explored almost the whole shoreline. Saw eagles closer than we have ever been to them. Had a couple rainy days but the wood stove made for very cozy time. Canasta was the game of the week. We will come again.

As I wrote in the guest book, our stay in this cabin felt like a week long body massage. This well appointed cabin with very thoughtful little touches, is right on an outstandingly beautiful lake where the loons sing you to sleep every evening. The dock just below is perfect as a launching point for the canoe (provided), for fishing, or for a family swim. There is the little town of Longville, the turtle racing capital of the world, is about 6 miles away and has everything you need from bait shops to groceries to laundromat to ice cream shop. Kirk, the owner, is very well organized and communicative. My only hesitation in writing this review is that I don't want to have to compete with too many other travelers for a return trip to this Northwoods Minnesota paradise!

Owner response: Thank you so much for the thoughtful review. Isn't Longville great!? It really does have it all and with a dose of charm to boot. We hope to have you back soon.

We are still at the cabin as I write this. I went back on the VRBO site to look at the photos again as I was curious to see if the were acurate. They are spot on. I have rented places before where they show you only perfect angles and select views. The photos you see here are what you can expect. The only things not shown are the bathroom which is small but functional even for 2 adults and 2 teens, the garage which is nice to have for storing our golf clubs (husband says they get too hot in the vehicle) and extra refrig. for leeches (yuk). There is a nice sized lawn for plaing games. The next cabin is fairly close but it is an older couple who stay to themselves unless you initiate conversation and then are very nice and helpful. There is a nice sized porch off the kitchen for dirty shoes, coolers, swim rafts that might blow away overnight, etc. It is REALLY nice to have some seamingly small things already there for you that are not supplied in other cabins. Dish soap, body soap, paper towels, zip lock bags, tin foil, beach towels, Kleenex, fans, extra blankets, flashlights, salt and pepper, matches, etc. I could go on. They seem like small things, but those of you who do the planning and packing know how much work is involved and the less you have to pack the better. If you are picky about the flavor of your water, either bring gallon jugs along or the grocery store sells refillable ones for .79 first fill and .49 there after. The water has a smell which is unavoidable I'm sure. I didn't mind it but my kids of course won't drink it. :-) Having satellite TV and wireless internet are a plus as I unfortunately have to check into the office daily. The beds are very comfortable and the sheets are great. Everything was very clean and we haven't seen any bugs inside. Even ants. We are already planning which week next summer we will come. Might need to come earlier as the fishing right now isn't good. Some Bass and Bluegill, but no Northern or Walleye. The lake is very quiet which is a plus. We only saw jet skis once. Overall, it is a great place and we are still enjoying it for 2 more days!

Owner response: I am so glad you enjoyed your stay and we will look forward to having you back next year! Hopefully the fishing will be better. Unfortunately the water will taste the same. Thanks for the fantastic review.

What a wonderful surprise Wabedo Cabin was! I expected it to be cute and rustic, but not so delightfully "cabin," in the most chic, cozy and comfortable way. Everything we needed was there, including beautiful lake views from every room as well as the great deck -- my favorite venue for reading, eagle- and hummingbird-watching, and just vegging and gazing out over Lake Wabedo. It was a perfect vacation spot, even for someone who isn't into fishing, boating or hiking! (Fish were caught, just not by me -- although I did participate in the eating!) I'll definitely be back.

Owner response: Thanks you so much for the wonderful review. The deck is one of my favorite places to spend time also. The other day we were sitting there having a morning cup of coffee and saw a blue heron land on the dock where it stood gazing into the water until it suddenly speared a small passing fish and flew off.

We just returned from our week at Wabedo Cabin. We couldn't have been more pleased with the accommodations. You thought of everything to make it perfect. Loved all the extra touches to make it homey. Everything was clean and of high quality. You can feel all the warmth and heart put into the cabin. We had plenty of space and lots to do no matter what the weather. We had cool, windy weather and still had a blast. We fished every day and caught enough to have to clean fish every day. It is a beautiful place to stay, both the cabin and the nature that surrounds it. Very relaxing. Caught a 29 inch northern right at the dock on the last evening. We look forward to coming back next year.

The Wabedo Cabin is a great spot for a getaway. With the requisite fish and wildlife and the picturesque woods,it has a great rustic vibe. But with the well-appointed furnishings and great view, feels more like a refuge, a sanctuary. A place where the earth slows down just a little and the things that really matter become important again. I reached levels of relaxation that I had forgotten existed. All the comforts of home with none of the cares, this is a place you won't forget.

Recommended for: Girls getaway, pet owners, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, families with teenagers.

Owner response: On the subject of relaxation, I agree! Thanks for the generous review and we hope you'll be able to come back to Wabedo Cabin soon for some R&R (and maybe some hiking and biking).

I had the pleasure of staying in this delightful cottage last fall and I must say that it is the perfect getaway spot. Cozy enough for a romantic holiday yet spacious enough for a good-sized family vacation. I found it particularly helpful that it feels like you are far from society, but it is a short 5 minute jaunt into town (well, calling it a town is being generous, but you can stock up on food and beer). I was there too late in the season to get any real fishing done, but did learn from some local anglers that the stocks are ample. Everything was as described on the site (although the bathroom was a bit dated). The property and house were clean and in great shape and I found the owner very helpful. I will be recommending this rental property to my friends and family and plan on heading back this summer. Go, relax and enjoy!

Owner response: Thanks for the great review and we're glad you enjoyed your time at Wabedo Cabin! Since your stay, the bathroom has had a few cosmetic spruce-ups and also features new resort quality towels & wash cloths and a hair dryer. Looking forward to having you back in 2012 (and hopefully this year you'll be able to get some fishing in).

                      Owner info

                      Year Purchased: 2011

About the owner: I grew up in northern Minnesota, just a couple of hours east of our cabin. I have so many fond memories of fishing with my dad and brother, camping with the family, hiking with Boy Scouts and exploring with friends. When I got married, I talked my (agreeable) wife into a Northwoods, Boundary Waters, house-boating honeymoon. She was instantly hooked on Minnesota and we've vacationed here most summers since.

                      Why the Owner Chose Longville:
We were looking for the classic Minnesota lake cabin and knew we were at home the first time we saw this early-40s log cabin.
