There are three bedrooms in the main house, and for added privacy, there is a separate, furnished studio with its own kitchenette, full bath and covered view lanai that can be accessed from indoors.

Old Honomu town is located 18 minutes north of Hilo and 15 minutes away from Honoli’i surf beach on the Big Island of Hawaii. Village shops are a two-minute walk into town, where you’ll find shave ice and fresh baked goods at Mr. Ed’s, gourmet lunch plates at the Woodshop Gallery and Café, grocery sundries at Jan’s Store and locally crafted gifts at a number of shops.

Our family stayed at this home for 5 days and we had wonderful time there. The house was really clean and well tastefully furnished. Kitechn is great and has everything we needed. Beddings... are in excellent condition, and clean soft pillows! The describtion was very modest. my family particularly enjoy the books, very well selection and covered a wide range of readers. my kids loved reading the poems for young people, fictions, and Dermatology atlas! I will put 4 or 5 stars for this home. The owner is very helpful to accomodate us. We will definitely come back when next time we visit Big Island again. This home is close to most sights/attractdions on the east side of Big Island. We went Hilo a couple of times for farmers' market and fish market. We did hiking in Waipi’o Valley and Akaka Falls which is just 5 mins from house. The little Honomu town is extremely charming with a backery, expresso, post office, antique shop, and other gift shops. We had a most memorable experience of Easter Friday service at the United Church which is 5 minitues walk from this house. I want to say "THANK YOU" to Morris for shairng his home with travelors and vacation seekers like us. Much appreciated. My 4th VRBO rental on Big Island, and my favorite so far on the east side. The house was clean and plenty big for us, and the view was nice. Mainland worries melted away in 5 minutes. I was a little worried it wouldn't be private enough but it was not an issue, as there's a big yard and it's on a private cul-de-sac. You won't have to see or hear cars going by! (I'm Wyoming rancher who lives with two dogs on 13.5 square miles, so I value my privacy. This place worked fine in that regard.) The property owner is very accommodating and helpful, and answered all our questions promptly. As it says in the title, I would do this again in a heartbeat. Thanks for sharing your home! Had great chats the owner of Mr. Ed's Bakery and it was nice to be able to walk in two minutes to a coffee if you didn't want to make a pot at home. The ocean view is nice, and you can hear the surf crashing at night! Kolekole Beach Park is a 4 minute drive, and a nice little rocky gulch-beach where Akaka Falls (~3 miles upstream) eventually dumps into the ocean. I've been to Big Island plenty, and Laupahoehoe Point is one of my favorite places on earth. One thing I never did there was try the 50's Diner in the town of Laupahoehoe, and this time we did it twice. WOW is it good! Fantastic hand-made LOCAL BEEF patties, fresh fish and chips, etc... I've been by that little sign so many times and almost thought it was a joke, but it's not!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

My husband and I stayed here for a week in January. The grounds were beautiful, and the view from the lanai is wonderful. The house was just as described, and the owner very helpful when we had a minor wifi/TV problem Hilo Shark's coffee shop, a very short walk away has great coffee and atmosphere. Love this place!Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

The reviews and description of this place were completely accurate. The house is beautiful and it's in a very quiet area but central to all tourist locations. The kitchen has all the amenities and extras you need (no need to bring any extra spices, sugar, coffee filters, etc). The fruit trees on the property are a nice luxury. The owner was very helpful and provided detailed instructions on everything before we arrived. I really can't think of a bad thing to say about this place. Thanks to the owner and manager for a great stay.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, sightseeing, families with young children, pet owners.

Many thanks to Morris, such a considerate owner! Great newer house – bright, with wonderful views, on magnificent Hamakua Coast, between lovely Hilo & breathtaking Waipio Valley! We found a beautiful 1.5-h walk from house to stunning shoreline (no beach; scenic walk along cliffs) - there was nobody there except us (Holiday season, Nov-Jan!): just past last temple in town road enters fascinating, steep jungle with stream, then jungle ends but road is still pretty to walk on; you cross overpass above hwy - continue til you see signs for shoreline access. Shortcut: drive toward Hilo, turn left on Sugar Mill Rd, left in front of mill building, look for signs. Also on your way to Hilo don’t miss Scenic Drive, on which you’ll find Hawaii Botanical Garden (Awesome!) & Donkey trail (short, but views are fabulous). On your scenic way to Waipio Valley don’t miss mesmerizing Laupahoehoe Point (~20 min drive from house): the most powerful, crushing waves, impressive color of water, steep jungle behind. Before it you may also stop for gorgeous UmaUma falls ($10/person, find directions in advance). For surfing, Kolekole Park is closest (minutes drive N on 19, sign on left); Honolii is more populated. You may see turtles on Hilo beaches. Most beaches on this side of island are rocky –buy water shoes! But these are more beautiful than Kona beaches! It's 1+ h drive to Puna beaches- best-known ones are on Kapoho-Kalapana Rd (aka 137 or Red Rd), which is a scenic drive! Start the morning by snorkeling in Kapoho Tide Pools (aka WaiOpea Tide Pools)- it’s like swimming in aquarium; you may even see octopus; good for children; wear reef shoes. Then going SW on 137 you find: quiet pool-like beach (super-warm water, surf visible behind protective rocks- good for children/elderly); nudist beach (not visible from road but you’ll figure: parked cars); Isaac Hale Beach Park (good surf + path to hot spring); Mackenzie Park (no swimming, nice walk on cliffs/in forest); Kaimu Beach - no shade, but near visitor info + café (shady area), from here it’s a short drive to trail to Lava Viewing site. If you go to Volcano Park (~1 h from house), best trail is Kilauea Iki (rainforest +crater). Best beach on island is probably Haena Beach: lush vegetation; superb color of water & sand – unusual, black & white pattern! But you have to hike to it 1.5 h from Kaloli Dr & Beach Rd (search Old Puna Trail; but DON'T believe it's for biking!) Trail is almost all shady & flat, but muddy; get bug repellentDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This house was very nice and clean. We had 6 people and it worked out fine for us. It was a great location with alot of property to wander around in. It was close to the quaint town and was quiet and private. We wished we could have stayed longer. The property was just as it was described. The owner was quick to answer any questions. We would recommend this property to anyone.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

We stayed here with our 3 kids and had an AMAZING time. It's in a very relaxing location, but also just a few 100 steps away from cute shops and an amazing bakery. We loved all the fruit trees and our kids were making fresh orange juice and eating bananas like it was going out of style. The house has more than everything you could need including beach toys, snorkel gear, lawn toys, kitchen appliances ...very clean and the owner was very helpful in making sure all our needs were looked after. Yes, it is a quite a drive from the beaches, and about 15 min out of Hilo, but we loved the jungle like atmosphere and enjoyed that while we were there. There is a great park under the giant banyan tree, and many beautiful walks to do in the area. Don't forget about the hidden path through the banana trees to Jan's corner store for cold beer or ice cream!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, sightseeing, families with young children, adventure seekers.
