  We visited an out-of-this-world luxury penthouse in San Francisco, (vrbo no.122418) and discovered, through their in-house brochure', that the penthouse is owned by the same couple who owns this beautiful home. We arrived at this dwelling, opened the door and our mouths dropped! It is clean, roomy, comfortable and provides beauty inside and out. The artwork, in every room, apparently hand-prepared, is black and white and shows scenes all over Hawaii. The water, Maui and mountain views are spectacular with sunsets every night. The pool is 8 feet deep! The well-maintained landscape is filled with coconut trees, multi-colored plumerias, birds-of-paradise, and many other colorful plants. Many widows provide bright light and views from all-over. The back yard faces the Pacific Ocean while the front lawn features the view of the Mauna Kea Mountain. The kitchen is clean. The Mauna Kea-Hapuna amenity program comes in handy and well-worth the minor fees. Our 3 week stay was a visit to heaven. You won't go wrong staying here.

  My family and I had an amazing time at this beautiful home in Hawaii. The house had everything you need and more. The location is incredible and it was a bonus to sit in the hot tub each night with my kids and discuss the days events. I would give this house an A+ rating and we will definitely be back.

  Ok, I have noticed that the listing is now correct. When we booked we were told and assured that this wonderful house had TWO KING BEDS! When we arrived, it had one King Bed and one Queen Bed. Guess what? We are a family of tall people and no way my son and daughter in law could share a queen bed nor my husband and myself. We called the agent and reported the problem and after much haggling because he didn't know the listing said two king beds, my daughter graciously agreed to a blow up bed. The agent did promptly bring out the new blow up bed and it worked. Our two grandchildren were in the small den on a trundle which worked very well for them. So we made the best of it. We did love the house. THe backyard is more than wonderful for a family with children. The view in delightful. The owner of the home is a photographer and her photos are captivating. There were a few items that needed attention and a handy man was sent out although he couldn't fix them, he tried. The dishwasher goes through it's cycles, but we didn't realize till late in the week that it wasn't getting the dishes clean. We kept hand washing everything we took out of the dishwasher. We loved having the passes down to the Mona Kea and the Hapuna. The walks are wonderful. We would, for sure, rent the house again, but because of the queen bed size, we won't be able to do that.

  We stayed at this home last summer and currently booked it from the middle of April thru June, 2012. We have tried to spend our Springtimes in a warm weather area. We've been to Florida, Texas, Arizona and California. Cross those locations off our list. Hawai'i is now our vacation home! Our stay at this home was spectacular. So clean, you can eat off the floor. The kitchen is gourmet and provides anything we'd want at home. The artwork is spectacular, memorializing Hawai'i history for a number of years, in Black/White and Sepia on fiber based paper. (I know how much work goes into hand-done, non-digital photgraphic art, I'm a photographer). The flora is fantastic. Coconut trees, plumera, birds of Paradise, hibiscus, ti, and the landscaper & pool person from the Mauna Kea Hotel visits the house twice weekly. The owners have outfitted the entire home in Hawai'iana furnishings that date back to the 1940's and 1950's. Furniture in Mango, Koa and other hardwoods. Every night we witnessed explosive, colorful sunsets over an infinite Pacific Ocean. At night, with a half to full moon, we could sit on the expansive lanai, and READ by the moonlight. The swimming pool is fully-tiled in Mauna Kea colors, 40 feet long and 8 feet deep. The hot tub is huge! The owners provide a self-authored activities brochure' that give the guests hints for day trips, local values at restaurants and beautiful photographs. At times, just being there is the vacation. Why go anywhere? Cosco is 30 minutes away. Hapuna and Kauanoa Beach a short walk and free morning coffee and pastries at the Hapuna Prince golf course! A good hint suggested by the owner in their brochure....buy a large bag (or two), from Cosco of birdseed and spread them on the lawn near the lanai. Every morning and evening, hundreds of birds show up. Great entertainment for us and our grandchildren........ This home is the best. This island is the best. Thank you VRBO.!!!

  Our family stayed at this lovely home for the Christmas holiday and rank our vacation there among our best. The house is located in the Uplands above the Mauna Kea and Hapuna Beach Prince resorts, has a spectacular view of the water and is quiet and private. Upon our arrival, we found the house very spacious and accommodating for a party of 5 (including 3 adult children), very well stocked and spotless. The location is ideal for access to the Kohala Coast, Waimea and the Waipio Valley where we went horseback riding. For those interested in beach and other resort like activities, tenants may sign up for access to the Mauna Kea and Hapuna Beach Prince resorts, both of which we recommend. The facilities and staff are outstanding and there are activities and dining across a wide range of tastes. This is also our second time renting through Wayne Twitchell and Kona Sunsets Vacation Rentals and in both instances our experience has been excellent. We heartily recommend this property and experience to one and all.

  Our family stayed for 4 weeks in this fabulous home. It has an amazing oceanview and the most wonderful sunsets. The property has a wonderful sense of space and openess as well as being private. It is in a secure gated community with access to the ammenities that the Mauna Kea Beach and Prince Hotels offer (the best beaches!). The house is well laid out, clean, with all the comforts of home. There is lots of sun or shade. We loved eating outside. The pool was serviced regularly. The owners were available for any concerns. We liked it so much we booked it for the next year!

  To celebrate our daughter's graduation from the university, we were looking for the best place that we could find on the Big Island. That is when we discovered the Castle on the Kohala Coast. My wife, daughter, brother, sister-in-law and I stayed for 8 nights & we had the time of our lives. The Castle suited our every need. It was impeccably clean and words and photos can simply not describe its beauty. We particularly enjoyed the breath taking views above the Kohala Coast from the large patios. The pool and hot tub also provided fabulous views of Maui and the nearby mountains. The temperature levels were set on auto heating cycles so the hot tub was always hot and the pool always heated just right for star gazing and early morning soaking and swimming. The sunsets were simply spectacular. The house is divided into two master suits at either end. Both are spacious with private baths, ocean views & designed to be private for getting away to read or just be alone. There is another bedroom and private bath conveniently located between each suite. We enjoyed the sensual tropical breezes that swayed the palms surrounding this beautifully landscaped property.The Castle has lush tropical landscaping & flowers galore, including plumeria throughout! Every where you look, there are visual delights that meet the eyes. The property is filled with lush tropical flowers, plants and ringed with palms providing shade & that natural island feeling. The Castle has a beautifully elegant & open architecture yet still is very private. The Castle is located in a private, gated community about a half mile above the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel and Hapuna Beach, our favorite beach in Hawaii. The gourmet kitchen allows for easy cooking with all of the amenities of home. There is also a Costco just down the road for stocking up on supplies. We cooked several dinners at home that featured a fine out door barbecue & grill combo unit. The Castle is located just a few minutes from Kawaihae where you will find the local's favorite sea food restaurants and live music at great values! One night we ate freshly caught ahi tuna and listened to John Cruz perform at the Blue Dragon, our favorite restaurant. The owners have taken extra efforts to furnish the Castle in authentic true Hawaiian style. We found Bill and Cathy to be very friendly & attentive to our every need. I highly recommend staying at the Castle for at least one week. We stayed for 8 nights and wished we had signed up for two weeks.

  This is from far the best accommodation we ever got in Hawaii. Grandma's Castle is ideally located, with great views and a quiet environment. The house is spacious, the bedding extremely comfortable, the bathrooms very nice and the quality of the appliance is very high. Our sole regret was to leave this paradise after only 6 days ; we would have enjoyed a much longer stay.

  We very much enjoyed our stay at Grandma's Castle! The view of the ocean was magnificent. We loved having the pool, and the house was extremely well located and very comfortable. We will be back!
