Location: City of London, London, England, United Kingdom, Europe (Across the Street from Tower of London! Nr Tower Hill tube.) View Map

Accommodations:  Apartment, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath (Sleeps 2-5)

Enjoy your holidays at this modern and comfortable flat featured in the New York Times Travel section!

Inside the flat: This flat is equipped with a microwave, oven and hob/stove, fridge/freezer, washer/dryer, TV/VCR, wireless DSL, and power shower. The flat rental includes all linens, towels, and cutlery. Also included are free phone calls from the flat to the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and most of Europe, so you can call your family and friends at home, or make additional travel plans for free from the flat.

The location: The flat is conveniently located just across the street from the Tower of London and next to the beautiful and historic Trinity Square Gardens. Just a minute's walk from the Tower Hill tube stop, and approximately three minutes from the Tower Gateway DLR, you'll find this flat the ideal London base from which to explore London!

Local Attractions: Many points of historic interest, including the Tower of London, Tower Bridge, the Roman Wall(s). Also located in 'The City' or financial district, so the area is considered very safe, even for walking around late at night. Due to the flat's proximity to the tube station (and being within Zone One and on the Circle and District Lines), you can hop on and quickly be near any major attraction in central London: Buckingham Palace, Churchill's War Rooms, Whitehall, Parliament, Big Ben, Kensington Palace.

Just across the street, in addition to the Tower of London, is All Hallows by the Tower, a 1,500 year old church that has import for American as well as British history – William Penn, the founder of Pennsylvania, was baptized in the church as an infant, and John Quincy Adams, America’s 6th President and son of John Adams, America’s 2nd President, was married there in 1797. Tours of the church, offered free of charge, reveal among other things a 2,000 year old Roman road, part of the ancient Roman city of "Londinium", which ran underneath the present church site.

There are many pubs and restaurants within a one or two minute walk. The Hung, Drawn and Quartered Pub is just across Great Tower Street next to All Hallows (church). If that one doesn't appeal, there are three other British pubs, a French restaurant (Chez Gerard), a Spanish restaurant, an Asian noodle place and a pizza/pasta restaurant all within a lazy 1-2 minute walk. If you're willing to walk a bit further, you will find a seemingly endless supply of restaurants.

One not to miss is Dickens Inn (a former hanging ground for pirates) at St Katherine's Docks, London's best-kept secret! The docks also host a small marina and many quaint cafes, shops and restaurants of all price ranges.

If you choose to walk east about 10-15 minutes, you'll find yourself in London's East End, and perhaps at Brick Lane which is famous for its excellent Indian food! I highly recommend the Jack the Ripper Walking Tour of the East End, held at night and starting from the Tower Hill tube, just about a minute (if that) from the flat.

Also nearby (meaning under 15 minute walk) is St Paul's Cathedral, Tower Bridge, The City (financial district), St Katherine's Dock, Shad Thames (riverwalk area with more restaurants and pubs), Sir Francis Drake's ship the Golden Hinde, the HMS Belfast, the London Bridge, Southward Cathedral (at the south end of London Bridge), Millenium Bridge, the Globe Theatre, Tate Modern Museum, etc.

Shakespeare's Globe Theatre is a pleasant walk across either Millenium Bridge or London Bridge near Vinopolis, a wine museum with a lovely restaurant with wine tasting. (The theatre and restaurant are ideal for a unique dinner and show experience as part of a memorable and romantic evening.)

Sleeping Arrangements: This flat is perfect for a single, couple, or small family. There is a UK Double bed upstairs (approximately the same as a US Queen) (see photo). There is also a very large and comfy sofa which is six foot two inches between the armrests and which makes up nicely into a twin bed if desired. In addition there is a US Queen sized Aero-Bed mattress available for guests' use. (However, I need to say that the 5 person maximum usually means 2 parents and 3 small kids [and even then its tight] - the flat is just too small to be used by 5 adults.)

Generally speaking, I have a 4 night minimum - it simply isn't economical for me to do short stays. The only exception is if I happen to have 2-3 days that are left available between two longer stays - in that case I might consider renting for 2-3 nights. Check my availability calendar to see what the availability is.

    • My wife and I just rented from Paul. Very honest and great guy. Don't be concerned about the "Wire Transfers" for deposit and payments. The keys will me mailed and there will be a flat there when you arrive!! Great location at Tower Hill / Financial District. Subway or Underground is just around the corner for travel to all attractions. Best way to travel the city in our opinion. Everything is really within walking distance too if your up for the walk down the Thames or across Tower Bridge. Taxi can be hailed right outside the doors for those of us that are lazy; meaning me. As for the flat / apartment, it really feels like home away from home. It is really clean, neat, and all the appliances work. A big plus + for us was the level of quiet in the building. You cannot hear the neighbors and being on the top floor was great. You can't put a price on that. The free calls back home with the free internet WIFI was also a major convenience for us. Big Big Bonus!!! There are plenty of guides, maps, books, and information about the city that is also very helpful in the apartment. Great view of the city and Tower Bridge from the easy and accessable roof. There is a great pizza place down the street and a few pubs or restaurants close to the flat. Most important FYI on the food scene is: CHECK CLOSING TIMES!! Grocery is also very close if you prefer to cook as we did. If you are coming into Pauls' Apartment / Flat through any London airport then taking a TAXI is best in our opinion. Around 60-80 pounds or $100-$120US. Taking a lot of luggage through the Underground / Subway does not look like a lot of fun. If your on the cheap or have little luggage, then Underground / Subway is your cup of tea. Good luck... Lastly, but most importantly, we want to thank you Paul for the great service and stay at your place. London is a great city and one of our favorites traveled. Thanks for the hospitality, memories, and we look forward to another stay at your place when we come back. I'll recommend your place to all our friends and family if they are coming to London for a visit. For your future guests, you have made the right decision in choosing this apartment if your looking for comfort and convenience. Thanks again Paul, Jon & Shelley B Newport Beach, California

    • My adult daughter and I stayed here in late February 09. Two thumbs up..if you want to be close to it all, have a lovely veiw and lots of privacy, then book this flat. Also provided are many books and maps to aid in your planning of what to do and see, it's very close to many walking tours and the Tube. Many places to eat nearby. I hope to return with my husband in the future and would certainly seek out this rental again if Paul has a vacancy.

    • My wife and I stayed at the Tower Hill flat in early February 2009. It is a perfect location in the heart of the business district. The building is very quiet and the neighborhood safe with restaurants and pubs nearby. We found Paul, the owner, to be completely honest and helpful with any and all details concerning his rental. The flat is perfect for a couple wanting to have a more personal experience than a hotel. We plan to return to London in the fall and will stay there again. Highly recommended!!!

    • My wife and I stayed in the Trinity Square flat in March 2008 (just now writing the review January 2009). All transactions with the owner were professional, he was very responsive, and there was never a worry about anything. The location was great - especially with the Tower of London only 3 minutes walk away! The fact that it was right off of the Tower Hill tube stop was very helpful as well. The owner helped us with any question we had from where to eat nearby, to transportation inquiries, to sightseeing - he was critical in our successful trip. The flat was spotless and perfect for the two of us - we loved the alcove bed and the spiral staircase. The TV was not working while we were there but we were so exhausted each night that it did not matter. I would DEFINITELY recommend this flat to anyone looking for a comfortable and affordable base for their London trip. I will most assuredly be looking to stay here again on our next trip to London. Enjoy!!

    • We were also a group of 5: 2 adults and 3 children, our eldest is 15, so almost an adult. Yes it was squeezy especially with all our luggage (we were on a 9 week round the world trip) but we had great fun rearranging ourselves and yes we did fit in. Paul does warn us about this so it was not a total surprise. Really the best thing about the apartment is the location: convenient to the Tube, the Tower of London and Tower Bridge. There are Restraunts nearby and Tesco supermarket is 5 minute walk away. There is a larger supermarket at St Katherines Dock. Paul gives excellent directions. We found Avis car rentals at the Hotel on the Waterfront just past Tower of London and under the Bridge. We took a day trip to South of London. Paul supplies a great selection of guide books and some detailed notes on what to do locally. Unfortunately wedidn't get time to do most things. We had to contact the apartment management twice during our stay. The hairdryer blew up and a new one was supplied the next morning. Also on leaving the apartment we locked up as instructed and then discovered we had left a bag upstairs locked inside the apartment. We frantically called Kremena (the manager) and fortunately she was able to get her cleaner to come in and start work early so she could let us back in the apartment. Fortunately we made check in for our flight with 5 minutes to spare. Thanks ladies!

    • We had a wonderful week in London. The flat was perfect for the 2 of us. We loved the location, so close to the Tube stop and to the Tower and Tower Bridge. We also enjoyed St. Katharine's Dock. We took the train to York for the day (great!) and also a bus tour to Windsor Castle, Bath and Stonehenge. But mostly we explored London on the Tube and on foot, and we had a blast!

    • I would echo what the Townsends said in their comment (June 2008). We were also a family of five (2 adults, three children) and we stayed for four nights. This was our first trip and Paul gave great directions from the airport. All transactions were professional and well done. Communication was excellent. The location was excellent: near a nice little park, very near the Tube, and of course right across the street from the Tower. The view from the roof is great. There is also a good supermarket pretty close (within a 5-6 minute walk), and lots of restaurants, banks and cash machines nearby. Everything was clean when we arrived. The kitchen worked well. Would definitely recommend. It's a little tight for five people (not surprising) but definitely doable. It's split level so the family can spread out. A wonderful time in London.

    • We just returned from a 3 week trip to Great Britain. The first 4 nights of the vacation were spent at this Trinity Square flat. Because this was our first trip overseas Paul made us feel very comfortable with all we needed to know about London and gave excellent directions to the flat. He was extremely professional with correspondence and the handling of money/deposit transactions. The flat was very well equipped and clean with a fantastic location near the Tube and the Tower. It was a bit tight with our three children and all of our luggage, but we were not surprised since it was advertised as such. I would recommend this flat to anyone wanting a very convenient and accommodating place to stay in London.

    • We had a fantastic week-long holiday at Paul's flat. The location is ideal, so close to the Tower and the Tower Hill tube stop. There were only 2 of us so there was plenty of room. Many previous guests have left guidebooks and maps which help in your planning. Make sure you get an "Oyster" card for the tube and bus fares. We plan to go back and stay there again!

    • Staying here was wonderful for our family of 4: Our 2 daughters, ages 14 & 17 especially loved the flat, and oohed and aahed when we walked in! It was like a home away from home for us. There were so many things that were great. The location was ultra convenient, clean, safe and across from Tower of London, a 2 minute walk to the subway, 5 minute walk to a grocery store called Tesco, so we were able to buy groceries and cook in the kitchen which saved lots of money. The flat comes stocked with so many unexpected amenties: books to read, including London guidebooks/maps, videos to watch, phone to make free local calls, umbrellas, washer/dryer, dishes, pots, silverware, etc. Even had spices, olive oil, shampoo, etc. left from previous tenants so we didn't have to run out and buy some of that stuff. Paul, the owner was a joy to work with: Always responded to our queries in a timely manner, easy going, and professional. For the cost, compared to how much London hotels would be for a family of 4, this is an incredible value and we'll definitely be staying here again. Some thoughts for next time: I wish we'd remembered to visit the rooftop garden with the view, because I heard the views were wonderful. Also didn't care much for the pub just around the corner from the flat. (Wetherstones)? The beer was GREAT, but the food was just ok. And for 4 people, the sleeping arrangement works like this: 2 can sleep in the double bed upstairs, 1 sleeps on the sofa, and the 4th person can put the 2 big, comfy chairs together to form a "bed". It was all very comfortable and worked out great!
