Functional Cabin Near Yosemite on Bass Lake
Functional Cabin Near Yosemite on Bass Lake
The cabin is nice, but definitely not luxurious. Overall, it does sleep the number advertised and worked out well for our family. We stayed a week at the cabin with 8 adults and 8 kids. My CONS are mostly small annoyances. PROS * Sleeps a lot of people. * The kitchen was well-stocked with tools and very functional. The grill worked great. Keep in mind that there is basically no pantry items. * Overall, the place was nice and clean. * Bass Lake is a nice place for families. Falls Beach is fantastic. The water is super calm and there is even a natural rock water slide. * There were a ton of games that ended up being fun for the kids. * Generally affordable. CONS * The cabin was nice, but a bit spartan. We described it as "campy". * Though it was right off Bass Lake, there are two things to keep in mind. First, it is not right on the lake, but across a fairly busy road. Because it is on a hill, you can see the lake from the house. Second, it is about a 15 minute walk on this busy road to the nearest beach. We walked most days, but because the road is busy (and windy), the walk with small children was a bit scary. * The downstairs of the house is not as nice as the upstairs. In addition, there is not an inside stairwell that connects the upper level to the lower level. It worked out fine, but felt that this point should have been advertised. Note that the stairwell is of the winding variety. Our 3.5 year old was ok with it, but it wasn't exactly easy. * Though there is wi-fi, it was really annoying since you had to sign in frequently. * The linen service and cleaning fee is a bit expensive. * There is a dock, but when we went, that part was totally dry. We rented a boat and were not able to park it near the house. We were told well in advance. * We were told not to put the garbage out until garbage day. There was no place to put the accumulating garbage inside the house. There was also no recycling that we could tell.

Manager response: We would like to thank you for your comments and feedback on our cabin by the lake. We do read all of the comments carefully and like to make adjustments and upgrades where possible. Our cabin is admittedly quirky and rustic, which we feel, gives it a lot of charm and character. Being in the woods, there are also winding roads and a lot of hiking up and down the side of the hill. (Be sure to bring your hiking boots!) As soon as we knew the water level of the lake would impact the use of the dock, guests were notified and provided with a list of options. We regret that our options were not perfect and we’re sorry we did not meet your expectations. Luckily, we were able to provide your group with a discount on your stay. Hopefully in subsequent seasons, the lake will be full for everyone to enjoy.
Girl Scout Troop had a wonderful time!
Girl Scout Troop had a wonderful time!
Our Cadet troop wanted to plan a trip that included hiking and swimming. We found this great cabin on Bass Lake that was near Yosemite. We spent two days hiking in Yosemite, one day to the top of Nevada Falls and another at Mariposa Grove. Both were excellent day hikes with about an hour to the valley and only 25 minutes to the Grove. We also spent two days at the lake. We weren't sure what to expect so early in June, but we were able to walk to a beach and the water was great. The weather was warm so the girls spent all day floating in the water. The cabin was excellent for our needs. The girls took the downstairs with has two bedrooms, a living area with daybeds and a sink, and two bathrooms. This allowed the adults to enjoy the upstairs 2 bedrooms and 2 baths in peace. The great room was spacious and charming. There were hiking guides, books, and DVDs and games available. The girls took turns cooking and cleaning and we BBQd on the deck which has a view of the lake. We would gladly go back, would like to try it in the snow. The troop had a wonderful time and so did the adults!

We will be back again!
Thanks to the sisters for sharing their cabin with us this summer! My family had an awesome time here, as the cabin overlooks the top of Bass Lake. The great room, with its vaulted ceiling, is HUGE, and allowed my extended family, which is quite large, to relax and dine together each evening after a busy day on the lake. We were able to enjoy the sunsets through the great room's windows or by simply stepping onto the back deck. The bedrooms are never ending, and allowed us all to have our own space for recharging for the next day on the lake. We can't wait til next summer to rent this cabin again!

Year Purchased: 2011
About: My sisters and I wanted a mountain cabin in the Sierras spacious enough to accommodate our families, (all 15 at the same time!). We found our cabin last year and have been enjoying the Bass Lake area most weekends while sprucing up the place. Our hope is that your family will enjoy your time here as well!
Why Bass Lake:
Bass Lake offers a number of activities sure to please a large family with different interests. Kayaking, hiking and mountain biking are some that we enjoy. The nieces and nephews love to boat and go tubing on the lake. Reading a good book on the deck or playing a board game with the family are good ways to relax at the end of a busy day.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
Over the summer we hiked some local trails (like Lewis Creek, there are two waterfalls on the trail, Corlieu Falls is the highest waterfall in Madera County.) If you have a fondness for old-time trains, do not miss the logger steam train at Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad...a train trip into the mountains with some history along the way.
