Why drive 3-5 hours 'up north' when everything you want in a lake cabin getaway is so close?
You will be less than 60 miles from downtown Minneapolis.

The cabin (or cottage) is 75 feet from the lakeshore. Our land is level, meaning you can watch children playing near or in the water from inside the cabin. The yard has plenty of room for croquet or badminton. Imagine relaxing in the hammock while your children play in the shallow water. Watch bald eagles soar & listen to loon calls, see a float plane land or take off. Check out the variety of boats cruising around the lake. Enjoy a cup of coffee on the dock. Gaze at stars away from city lights. Roast marshmallows over an evening fire. Can you visualize your family getaway here?

This knotty pine walled cabin has 4 rooms including 2 bedrooms & 800 square feet. You have a clear lake front view from 3 rooms. The front bedroom has a queen bed & lakefront view. The back bedroom with a bunk bed, converts to twins. The beds & futon have excellent mattresses. The kitchen is furnished with plenty of cookware, tableware & appliances, but no dishwasher. Living room has a sleeper sofa and swivel wicker chairs. Newer knotty cedar front room added in 2001 has (7) lake view windows, a futon couch/bed & large dining table. The bathroom has stand up shower stall with hose spray nozzle (handy for bathing small children.) Bedsheets, blankets, pillows, bathroom & kitchen towels are provided, or feel free to bring your own for a discount. Bring extra beach towels because if you are in and out of the water often. There is a clothes line in back to dry towels & swimsuits. All in all, this place is well appointed.

TV picks up the Mpls.-St. Paul & St. Cloud stations. Bring some books, CD's, DVD's or VHS tapes for when you've had too much fun in the sun & water. Internet access is possible if you have a smartphone and a computer. More detail below. I can help you with it.

Green Lake (800+ acres) is the largest lake in Isanti County. You can see most of it from our shore. It's big enough for boaters to do their thing while not disturbing other boats on the lake or people on the shore. You don't get this with small lakes. Surprisingly, Green Lake is not a busy lake except on holidays & fishing opener weekend. The fishing is strong; Walleye are stocked every other year. Largemouth bass, northern & crappie fishing is also good. Sunnies & perch are easy for kids to catch with worms. We have good success fishing in front of the cabin and off the dock. You can learn more at the MN DNR website. A bait shop is 5 minutes away.

Our lake & swimming area has a sandy bottom with no rocks. Swim out 150 feet & touch the lake bottom in about 6 feet of water.

Adults can use our canoe. 19 foot pontoon available for rent. You can also bring your boat & tie it inside the "L" of our sturdy 70 foot aluminum dock which was new in 2005. The public access has a concrete boat ramp/landing.

We are only 10 minutes from Princeton and 15 from Cambridge. Both have plenty of restaurants and a large 24 hour supermarket. The Hi-Way Inn bar/tavern is 1 mile away. Close enough to walk for burgers, pizza & drinks. 5 minutes away is the Pine Brook Inn serving steak, walleye & more.

Golf at Purple Hawk in Cambridge or The Princeton Golf Club, easily found on any internet search engine.
Tennis: Free courts available at the high school in Princeton.

Charming Lake Cabin / Cottage -1 Hr North of Mpls.

Year Purchased: 1998

Why the Owner Chose Princeton

We bought this lake cabin/cottage in January 1998 so we could spend weekends at the lake with our boys who were 1 & 5 years of age and our freinds. We live about 60 miles away in suburban Minneapolis. Since then, we've made many great memories with family, friends, & renters. Fast forward to 2012. Our boys are now 15 & 19 & busy with summer activies. Consequently, the lake place does not get much use. We started renting 9 years ago to good people we've met thru VRBO. We've also rented other vacation properties on VRBO. We understand both sides of the owner/renter process & provide a great experience / value.

The Unique Benefits at this Cottage

At our place, you get the real lake cottage / cabin experience without the long drive up north. It looks & feels like the northwoods, yet you have comfort knowing civilization (hospital, 24 hour grocery, restaurants) is just 10 minutes away. Our property is great for children. Some of our guests are grandparents who rent the place to spend time with children & grandchildren. Green Lake is largest lake in Isanti County, which at 800+ acres is not very big for Minnesota. You can see 90% of the lake from our yard. Our lake is big enough for boats & jet ski's to have plenty of room to buzz around while not bothering other boaters or people on shore.

I didn't get a follow up email (invitation from VRBO)so I will just send my comments to you: We stayed at the Green Lake cabin for 1 week in October. It was beautiful! The cabin was very clean and had everything we needed to feel at home for a week. I appreciated the extra ammenities that made it a fun week such as the canoe and life jackets, fire pit, hammock, board games, and grill. Thank you to Stephen and his family for letting us enjoy their home away from home. The (last name deleted for privacy)

Great Find on the Lake

Guest: Peter in Portland (Porland OR)
Date of Stay: 10/05/11 Review Submitted: 10/11/11

Great cabin on the lake. The owner personally met us there and explained all the nuances of the cabin. (He even stuck around and called AAA for me when I locked my keys in the rental car with everything in it!) Highly recommended for families wanting to bond with children around lake activities. Cabin was stocked with some board games and cards. Great value. We'll be back next year! Peter

Owner response:Thanks Peter, You were a terrific renter. We'd love to have you and your family back! Stephen & Tami

Hi Stephen, We had a very nice time. Everything went well and we left the cabin in good shape as you will find. I really enjoyed taking my parents and kids out in ;the canoe. It was the first time for the kids and the first time in years for my folks. Your neighbors up there are so friendly and helpful. Thanks and we hope to rent again next year. Mary

This is the owner typing; for the last 5 years, we did not utilize the "renter comments" option. Instead I offered a reference phone call list to interested renters. Today, I opened that option, and contacted some recent renters with an invitation to return this summer. The following is copied from an email Rev. David Parker sent me today. His family rented our place for a week in late June, 2007. "Stephen, All is very well with our family. Last January we had yet another child--3 in total--and that's it! Sarah and I just talked about your cabin this weekend. While we're looking at trying a "group" vacation with some friends from church this year, I have begged to go back to your place--maybe next year. I'll keep in touch. Thanks for the email... Peace, David"
