We visited this house in 2011 and my husband has been wanting to stay here for vacation since then. We have been coming to Edisto for the past 15 years but never stayed at Jeremy Cay. Upon our retirement, the new owners and the renovations of this beautiful home, we finally fulfilled his "Bucket List" home. Words can not express the wonderful time we shared in this home with the awesome views, decks, beautiful decor, the ping pong and foosball tables, etc., etc..Our daughter, son-in-law, grandaughter, son and his fiance', my 88 year old mom, my husband and I look forward to spending another vacation at Nature's Retreat in 2014, if not before. Thank you so much Mrs.Vickie for everything.

Owner response: Thank you for taking the time to tell me and other vacationers how much you enjoyed our home. It makes all the work worthwhile knowing I am providing a valued opportunity for families to enjoy each other and the beauty of this area. When I first spoke with your husband he told me my house was on his bucket list. What an honor! I must also thank you for your representation of my rental house in Jeremy Cay. Residents spoke to me of what a nice family you are. Thanks.

If you love nature, relaxation, peace and quiet, fishing, and great family times with all the comforts of home you will love this home and its location at Jeremy Cay. Words are inadequate to describe the beauty of this place. You could not ask for a better vacation rental property. And as impressed as we were with the home and its surroundings I was equally impressed with the owner. You need not have any concerns about dealing directly with this owner. This vacation was one that we will never forget. My son and his wife in fifteen years of marriage had not had a nice vacation like this and we were delighted to have them go with us. They enjoyed it so much and loved having their own king size bed. My husband, our son, and some of our other guests loved fishing in Jeremy Inlet and Frampton Inlet. My daughter-in-law and I as well as our guests loved finding beautiful shells, sharks' teeth, and other fossils. I even found a piece of pottery which probably dates to the late 1800's when a series of storms destroyed the summer homes of plantation owners at what was known as Edingsville Beach. I fell in love with Edisto Island when I was a child and spent many wonderful vacations here. Last October my husband and I rented a place at Jeremy Cay on the island. That was the beginning of a new love affair. Now Jeremy Cay is our new favorite vacation spot on Edisto Island. This home is so well equipped you will be delighted to prepare meals here. And should you choose to eat out it is a short drive into Edisto Beach to dine at some of the great local restaurants. We will definitely be back in 2014 for a family vacation. Our little Malti-poo will be happy to return to Nature's Retreat also. From a very satisfied customer.

Our multi generational family stayed for a family wedding in nearby Hollywood, SC. Vicki made sure we could get in early as the wedding was on the evening of our arrival (which we all really appreciated) The house has more than enough room for everyone to be together or find a quiet spot on one of the decks to enjoy the beautiful surroundings too. The well stocked (I've never seen so many pans, bowls, or trays) and laid out kitchen came in handy as I am one of those rare people who enjoy cooking on vacation. (the kitchen is one of the best we have ever had in a rental house and we do this with our entire family often) The beach was great for shelling, but be sure to walk across the inlet down to the right at low tide (heading toward the pier). There are all kinds of sand dollars to be found down that way. Everyone in the family, from the 16 year old to the 70 year old, loved the place; we were all so relaxed when we came home people remarked upon it. The drive to Charleston was quite easy so if we wanted any other activities, it was no problem to find them. Thanks again to Vicki for all the help! We will be back when in the area.

Owner response: Thank you for taking the time to post these generous comments. As I have taken on the task of renting out his vacation home I have asked myself what I enjoyed most about the houses I have stayed in and what characteristics I appreciated most. Having a well stocked kitchen that is spacious and easy to work in while at the same time being able to be part of the "party" is important to me. Also I find when I get to Jeremy Cay I don't want to leave for meals but enjoy them in the natural surroundings the house provides. This is especially true in the evenings as I love sunset from the decks. When the snowy egrets fly by the house to roost at the next door lagoon, it is very special to me. I am glad you were able to enjoy the kitchen also!

Imagine a place where you can be on the ground, in the trees, above the trees, see the sun rise and set, view the marsh, lagoon and ocean surf, and an amazingly bright canopy of stars, with wildlife all around--that is 18 Planter's Retreat. This is our second year to have the privilege of immersing ourselves in Nature's Retreat. We love all the windows, levels and decks where you can watch the variety of wildlife from different points of view. I must admit that I love the garden tub (with jets) with the window overlooking the lagoon during the day, and the stars at night. Vickie has created a place for us to enjoy, relax, read, just be, but also play, too--my husband & I had a blast playing fussball and ping pong. We also rented the golf cart which let us get to the beach quickly. But we also rented bikes and kayaks. We bicycled around Jeremy Cay, up & down the beach, and kayaked the lagoon. Vickie has provided a wealth of information about the ACE Basin Region. We went to Bear Island to seen the variety of migrating birds. We kayaked with dolphins on Bay Creek and across the sound to Pine Island...also with the dolphins. We saw 3 American Bald Eagles. I discovered the ACE Basin is the most biodiverse region in the world second to the Amazon Rain Forest. Staying at 18 Planter's Retreat is like experiencing a little 'heaven on earth'---already planning for 2014. Vickie, David and Captain--Thank You!!

Owner response: WOW- In your first sentance you captured exactly why we purchased this property against all prior plans! Thank you so much for sharing this. I am thankful to all of my renters for trusting us with their vacation. This propery, as magnificient as it is, was run down when we purchased it, and we are doing our best to make it as comfortable and functional as possible. Your rentals make it possible for us to preserve and upgrade the house and share it! Thanks.

My family took a winter break for fours days at this incredible house. First of all, you will not find a better owner anywhere! Vickie was totally helpful with every need or question that we gave to her. The house is located in a gated community, which means that we were the only ones on the beach most of the times that we went. Despite the cold, my family enjoyed hours on the beach, walking up and down finding many sharks' teeth. The golf cart was a fun ride to and from the beach, but walking would not be difficult. The neighborhood is full of trees and lagoons. The many decks on the house allow great views of sunrise and sunset. The house has multiple levels that let everyone spread out and do different activities. Beds were very comfortable. Tap water tasted great (you don't need to haul in water like you must do on some parts of Edisto.) The house was clean and well equipped, and the local Piggly Wiggly carries food and other necessities. Highly recommend! Thanks for sharing your home Vickie!

I take very seriously the responsibility of providing the best vacation time possible for them. I am continuing to make improvements to my home to make it more comfortable and encourage requests and comments. Jeremy Cay is a unique and beautiful area and we are happy to share this spot.

What a great place! Awesome views from every window and deck. During our stay we saw 45 species of birds including a pair of nesting Bluebirds and a pair of Painted Buntings. The jumping fish (Mullets) in the lagoon provide many hours of entertainment while relaxing on the deck. We enjoyed taking turns cooking in the kitchen and eating together on the deck. We didn't eat out during our stay, but we did pick up a Key Lime pie at King's Market which was out of this world and should not be missed. If you like to cook, this place has the kitchen for it. It was a treat to have the beach almost to ourselves each day. We found many sharks' teeth, lots of shells and even a 200 year old pottery shard. The house was clean, the kitchen was well stocked with cooking utensils, and comfortable seating was available everywhere. The beds were comfy as well. This house is in a gated community and it is really quiet here. No traffic, a great place to take a walk and lots of nature to enjoy.

My wife and I had a great time at 18 Planters Retreat. I am not usually much of a beach person but spent the entire week cruising up and down Edingsville Beach in a golf cart. Sunrise or Sunset, high or low tide, there was always some new critter to see or special moment to be had. This house was very well stocked and had all the comforts of home. Thanks for having us Vickie, hopefully I can bring my whole family back to Edisto Island sometime soon.

Your house, the location, the lagoon, and the beach are so magical! I loved the large kitchen and family room combination with lots of seating at the bar and table. Plus, there was plenty of outside seating for meals on the deck. The kitchen was the best stocked kitchen I have seen in a rental house. I appreciated having such a varied and plentiful supply of everything. The beds were very comfy. There were plenty of places for quiet time with the numerous decks. The views and beach are exquisite! The jumping fish in the lagoon below kept us entertained on the numerous decks. It was such a neat experience taking a golf cart to the beach. I am a fossil hound and found some of my all time greatest finds over the weekend. The beach is so peaceful and uncrowded. We are truly looking forward to our next trip. I hope to become a "frequent visitor" and start collecting relaxation points:)

Owner response: Thank you for your kind works and taking the time to post them! We purchased this house in December, 2011 when it captured our hearts with its privacy and views, both inside and outside from the multiple decks. We feel it would be a crime to let the house sit unused so are happy to have visitors that can enjoy and appreciate it (and to be honest the income helps us support it and make it possible for us to enjoy it!) Since we purchased it we are working hard to make it the perfect place to visit. We have repainted the entire interior, replaced the gas cook top, brought in a few pieces of more comfortable furniture, and poured cement flooring under the house. I also have tried to have whatever the cook might need in the kitchen. Most recently (since the reviewer’s visit) we placed comfortable seating on the third floor deck which has expansive views, brought in a foosball table, and built an outdoor enclosed hot/cold shower. In May we plan on opening up the area under the house next to the lagoon by building a screened in area where we will place a ping pong table and seating. We encourage and appreciate comments and suggestions from our guests as we strive to make this your perfect vacation spot!

                      Year Purchased: 2011

Why the Owner Chose Edisto Beach:
Edisto Island sits in the middle of the costal area of the 350,000 acre ACE basin- one of the largest intact costal ecosystems on the east coast. This protected area is home to many endangered and threatened species. Wildlife is abundant which was evident from this house we purchased in December, 2011. The design of the house brings the outdoors in and the large, high decks place you in the flight pattern of snowy egrets, ospreys, eagles, and more. If one desires to venture from the beauty and privacy of the house the ACE Basin National Refuge and Botany Bay Island are very close and provide multiple hiking and boating options in these protected settings.

The Unique Benefits at this House:
Privacy, easy beach access, great shelling, non-motorized boating on site possible, crabbing and fishing on site, gournet kitchen, large outdoor living space with fantastic views of a lagoon, marshes and ocean. The many windows looking out over the lagoon provide constant viewing of the many different birds feeding. The marsh and surrounding land provide occasional views of deer feeding particularly during hunting seaon (safe territory.)
