This cottage is a true gem, we had the best time! Hank & Barbara are gracious hosts. They are very friendly and accommodating. Excellent job with the cottage. Everything is pristine and comfortable. The view is even better than the pictures! The location is also perfect because there is easy access to Haleakala, the Road to Hana, cool little towns of Haiku and Paia, and the various beaches of Maui. There is not a better place to stay in Maui if you are looking for a memorable vacation. We can't wait to come back!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We had a wonderful stay at the cottage during a week's cycling vacation on the island. It is nestled in the green hills of Haiku with a gorgeous view of the bay down below. You will wake up to the sounds of birds, and you will see at least one rainbow every day from the cottage porch. This is a tranquil and comfortable space in which to relax and unwind. For us, it also offered a perfect base for exursions on our bikes to all sides of the island and up the volcano. The cottage is well designed and well equipped, and the outdoor deck is a fantastic place to hang out, eat a meal, relax. Barbara and Hank are friendly and generous hosts, readily available to help with any issue, but they also respect your privacy. Location is wonderfully secluded and yet offers easy accessibility (10-15 min) to shops, restaurants and beaches of Paia.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This is a nice place to stay away from all the touristy locations. It is relaxing and beautiful...almost started to feel like home before we left. There is a grocery store within minutes and you get get just about anywhere you want/need to on the island within an hour-two hours. Plus, Paia is a nice town which is like 15 min away and the airport is only 30 min away. Barbara and Hank are very kind and hospitable. If you want a romantic hideaway or just a place to relax this is perfect. If you had activities planned elsewhere on the island they weren't as close as if you stayed on the other side of the island, but my husband liked this about the cottage so it all depends on your preference. Plus, there were some neat little towns and places we saw that we would not have been able to experience if we stayed in a more populated area. I would certainly go back to the cottage again without hesitation.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

So ...you need to close your eyes and envision what it would be like to live in Paradise. Waking up in the morning from a wonderful sleep in an extremely comfortable bed. Before you open your eyes , you feel the balmy breezes floating through the sliding doors on two sides of the cottage and birds softly singing to you. You finally open your eyes( while still in bed) and see lush vegetation with bright flowers including bananas hanging from trees. You finally decide to arise to be greeted to the rolling hills and vegetation from your panoramic view. You take your morning refreshments and sit at the patio table for 2 on the two sided porch and say continuously...this truly is a romantic paradise. The cottage absolutely has all the comforts of home with very impressive quality. Even though Barb refers to it as < the cottage> luxury is abound. When you leave the cottage for the day, you travel down a private lane peppered with Hawaiian flowers and your hardest decision for the day will be whether to turn right or left . When you return in the evening, it is truly like coming home where you can enjoy a cool drink on the porch while creating wonderful smells on the impressive high quality BBQ. You can read a book, watch TV , play cards ( even provided) or just talk about your awesome day. When you turn in for the evening you lay in bed and think how fortunate life is that you have had the opportunity to meet two special people such as Barb and Hank and that they shared their little bit of paradise with you. Before nodding off you can hear a nearby waterfall lulling you to sleep, and before you know it , you are hearing the birds coaxing you awake in the morning. Words cannot express the Paradise that Barb and Hank have created including the black cows with white socks in the distant meadows. We will be back >>> that is a promise !Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This beautiful cottage is in a private setting with wonderful views from the deck. Being on the north shore of Maui it is a bit more relaxing and slower paced than being on the west shore, but nevertheless not a long drive to Lahaina. The cottage is close to the start of the drive to Hana and the drive up Haleakala. The cottage is extremely well equipped and the owners Barbara and Hank have thought of everything, including beach chairs and a cooler to take to the beach. The decor is beautiful and very comfortable. We enjoyed returning to the cottage after a busy day of Maui activities as we found it so peaceful and relaxing. We often enjoyed using the barbecue and eating on the deck that overlooks Ho'okipa Bay instead of going out for meals.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

March 2012 We recently visited Maui for the first time to celebrate our 29th anniversary and had the pleasure of staying at Hookipa Bayview Cottage in upcountry Haiku. The moment we walked in the door, we felt like we were in paradise. From the Hawaiian music playing on the stereo, to the welcome fruit basket on the table and fresh cut flowers in a vase, we knew this was no ordinary vacation. Barbara and Hank had thought of everything we could possibly need to enjoy Maui. What a pleasure to wake up to the sounds of tropical birds and have that first sip of coffee on the lanai, looking out at the Pacific Ocean. The cottage is perfectly located, right off the Road to Hana, and about 1/2 hour from the wonderful South Maui beaches. Great shopping and fun restaurants in Paia await, just a short drive away. The cottage was such a welcome respite, after a day of touring. We loved the ability to unwind with a glass of wine on the lanai, watch the sunset over the West Maui mountains, and feel incredibly lucky that we had found the perfect secluded place to celebrate our anniversary. Sadly, our week went way too quickly, but we know we will return to Maui, and when we do, we will stay once again at Hookipa Bayview Cottage.Did you find this review helpful? Yes, we loved Maui and all it had to offer; the beaches, hiking, perfect weather. What made our stay so lovely was coming back to the cottage every day knowing we had ambience galore with seclusion, quiet, and beautiful views waiting for us. The architecture and design of the cottage is beautiful with a lanai that provides views of lush valley, hills and ocean. It was the perfect spot to enjoy breakfasts and later gin and tonics while watching the sunsets. We booked next year.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Perfect secluded home away from home We absolutely loved staying at Hank and Barbara's guest cottage, the Hookipa Bayview Cottage, for 8 nights in November 2011. When we travel, we prefer a secluded house (or apartment if we are in bigger cities) to staying in hotels and resorts, and Hank and Barbara's cottage was absolutely perfect in every way. We loved going in the bustle and hustle during the day (most activities in South or West Maui are 30-45 minutes away) and coming back to this quiet house with a gorgeous view on the valley (and the ocean and West Maui ), barbequing and sitting on the lanai. Hank and Barbara were kind enough to offer us fresh vegetables and herbs from their garden every day, and provided us with fruit as well. On nights we didn't want to cook, Paia is minutes away with tons of great restaurants. The cottage is extremely well stocked (even found a French press which we used), clean and nicely decorated. We loved the bed (which is a king), the many sliding doors, the lanai that goes around half of the house, the sound of the waterfall on rainy nights. It was perfect in every way! "We loved this place !" Hookipa Bayview after a long flight from Europe, what a delight to rest at Hookipa Bayview cottage. We were warmly welcomed by Barbara and Hank, with beautiful flowers and and delicious welcoming basket (oh these fresh foods !). Barbara and Hank were helpful if you need them (thank you for the list of markets and groceries to keep in the car!) , and yet very discrete. The cottage is spacious, very comfortable, clean and very well maintained. We appreciated every convenience and amenities (i.e. washer/dryer). The surroundings are stupendous, as well as the views to the ocean and West Maui Mountains. Secluded in green, tropical environment full of flowers, and yet close access to Hookipa Beach Park to watch the surfers, to Hana Road and Haleakala Road. Maui Upcountry has lovely places to discover too (Makawao, Waihou Springs Trail, Botanical Gardens ...). After a visiting or hiking day, what a pleasure to come back to this private oasis of quietness ! We recommend this address to anyone seeking another Maui than the touristic and crowded places. Mahalo Barbara and Hank for sharing your wonderful place. Sylvie & Marc SwitzerlandDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

"Unforgettable Vacation" We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Kline's cottage. It was everything we hoped for and more! The online photos were beautiful and the actual cottage, and it's surroundings, even more so! Every convenience was provided, from beach towels and chairs, to a blow dryer, and even a French Press for coffee. The washer and dryer out back made it easy to clean up after a day at the beach. Barbara and Hank were wonderful hosts and were very helpful in recommending restaurants and places to visit. They even provided a CD guided tour for the Road to Hana. They made us feel like we'd been friends forever! The island is just breathtaking, the food was awesome and the hospitality even better. We are already plotting and planning our next trip. We will definitely be back! Thank you Barbara and Hank! Jonathan & Michelle Chicopee, MADid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Relaxing and peaceful haven on Maui My partner and I recently stayed at the lovely Hookipa Bayview Cottage. The location is right in Haiku and is very central on the island and not far (but plenty far enough) from the airport. The cottage served as a great jumping off point for our many adventures the first part of our stay on Maui. It's right near Upcountry (we fell in love with Makawao) and is well on the way to the Haleakala Crater, which is where we spent a good portion of our trip. It's also a great place to start your drive to Hana, which is a must. And even West Maui wasn't too far away, as we spent several days on that part of the island, too. As for the place itself, its very clean and homey and is surrounded by lush and peaceful gardens. We particularly loved dining on the lanai every night, looking out over the bay and the beautiful meadow right next to the cottage. You can't imagine a more peaceful setting. The bed and furniture was very comfortable and we were able to get the much needed rest and relaxation that we were seeking. Barbara was a gracious host and made us feel very welcome, with plenty of instructions for the house, a lovely arrival gift basket, and an in-person visit and follow-up check-in phone call to make sure all was well. Barbara and Hank live in the main house. There is plenty of privacy and they are very courteous neighbors. We were very sad to leave and are already planning for our next visit. The setting was as close to paradise as we've been. What a wonderful place to spend our 30th wedding anniversary! The cottage was perfect for 2 people and had everything we needed-- kitchen, linens were well stocked and the house was super clean. Hank and Barbara respected our privacy, yet were there and helpful if we needed them. Hank's bananas were great!! The setting of the cottage is beautiful--lush vegetation and the flowers--oh, the flowers!! We had most of our meals on the deck and the aroma of the flowers was wonderful. For our plans, the cottage was in a perfect central location--other towns/beaches that we were interested in were within one hour or less of the cottage. Great place to stay--we would definitely stay there again if we go back and it's just the two of us. Deb and Dale Potomic, MTDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

I highly recommend this place; everything about it was fantastic I manage about 90 private home vacation rentals, most of which are luxury properties, and I've always vacationed at private home rentals rather than hotels. This vacation home is as good as it gets! The home itself is gorgeous and the surrounding property and views are fantastic. It is fully equipped with everything you would want or expect in a high end luxury property. Hank and Barbara are the most gracious hosts I've ever dealt with...there in a heartbeat if you need them, but "invisible" if you don't, combining great service with complete privacy. And the location is ideal...about 20-25 minutes from the airport, but completely out in the country away from the hustle and bustle of being in town. Everything about is is perfect. Both as a professional in the same business, and as a private vacationer, I very highly recommend this place to you. When I return to Maui its where I will stay again! The Real Hawaii Many travelers who vacation in Hawaii really do seem to miss out on the true nature of the islands. It can probably even be assumed many vacationers are looking for that misleading "Hawaii Five-0" excitement. Shame, shame. Hawaiian paradise goes far beyond sipping margaritas on a sun-kissed beach, enjoying a luxury massage by the poolside, or spending hours shopping on the streets of Honolulu. Hawaii is a culture, and to truly experience this culture, one needs to know where to look: Tucked away in the luscious hills on the island of Maui, there is a small dirt path closely guarded between groves of banana and orange trees. Driving up this path you will discover a charming little cottage overlooking the Ho'okipa Bay and warmly embraced by surrounding tropical flowers and green vegetation. In the evenings you can hear a distant howl of a wind, forewarning the hills of a light mist to come, an experience that is hauntingly beautiful. The Ho'okipa Bayview Cottage is located only within minutes from the tiny rustic town of Paia, and situated right on the way to the famous Hana Highway. During your stay at the cottage, you will begin to feel like a true Hawaiian local. This is the real Hawaii. Sara & Dinesh IndianaDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Best vacation ever!!! My wife and I stayed at the cottage to celebrate our tenth anniversary. It was the best vacation ever and the cottage was the best part of it. Barbara and Hank are warm, friendly, and gracious hosts. The cottage was very clean, well maintained, and stunningly beautiful. It's very quiet with a great view of the ocean and West Maui. If you want to be surrounded by sunburned tourists and cheap jewelry this is not the place for you. The cottage has everything you need and more...Bbq, Washer/Dryer, Iron, Cable, Internet, Pots/Pans, Flashlight, etc. You can tell that Barbara & Hank put a lot of thought into making sure their guests are very comfortable. The cottage has beautiful ocean and mountain views which can be constantly enjoyed through the floor to ceiling windows and lanai that surrounds the cottage. It is secluded and private, yet close to shops, restaurants, beaches, and all kinds of activities. We enjoyed the local town atmosphere to the touristy resort environment and feel it was the best way to experience Maui. Peaceful Cottage and Gardens - best relaxing vacation We loved the peace and quiet, enjoyed the beautiful surroundings of our cottage. The house offers everything you need for a comfortable stay - including folding seats we didn't think we'd use but they came handy to rest and have lunch on the beach after surfing :) The garden, lovingly and carefully designed and tended to, is full of enchanting flowery smells. Idyllic This was our first trip to Hawaii and the cottage was our first impression of the aloha spirit of the islands! Barbara & Hank have done everything right. The cottage is beautifully appointed. The surrounding grounds are lushly lanscaped as a tropical paradise! We felt serenely private but not isolated. A neighborhood grocery store, a few resturants, and a post office were just 4-5 minutes away. The location was ideal for us, away from the hustle and bustle and noise of big hotels and rows of condos. We sat outside on the lovely wrap-around porch as much as possible to drink in the beautiful mountain and water views. Barbara and Hank provided us with everything we needed: maps, restaurant guides, activities, a cooler, beach chairs, etc. Attention to amenities was so impressive! This was our first trip to Maui and we loved the tucked away serene location, yet a only a short drive to any corner of the island. We spent each day driving a different direction finding many resturants, beaches, and shopping to explore. The cottage was clean and tastefully decorated, large windows leading to a wrap around lanai with a breathtaking view. Nestled in it's own tropical garden the cottage was roomy and quaint. "Solitude...Views...Comfort" The other reviewers have said it well... Ho'okipa Bayview Cottage provides the rare combination of privacy, openness, views and quiet. This is a quality accommodation that will have you sleeping with the tropical breezes wafting through the cottage and enjoying leisurely breakfasts on the lanai overlooking the valley, neighboring hills and Ho'okipa Bay. With many other lodgings you always wonder and are often disappointed by what the pictures and descriptions don't reveal. In the case of Ho'okipa Bayview Cottage the actuality exceeds expectations. In addition to enjoying the cottage we spent our days exploring the up country towns, enjoying lunches at the many excellent restaurants in the area, and taking walks on quiet, mile-long Baldwin Beach. After a relaxing day out and about we always looked forward to returning to our 'home' in time to enjoy the sunset from the lanai. We have stayed in various types of lodgings and locations in Hawaii. Probably the best comment we can make about our experience at this place is that after two weeks at the cottage we immediately booked a longer stay for next year. Thank you, Barbara and Hank! Our home away from home Aloha. We are Warren & Diana from Elkhart in. We have vacationed on Maui five times previously at a lovely resort, right on the beach, for two weeks per year. We then decided to get away fro the crowd & the pseudo Hawaii resort scene to a more affordable, quiet, peaceful & authentic place. Fortunately we discovered Hookipa Bayview cottage in Upcountry Maui. The cottage is immaculate, open & airy and comfortable. The view of the bay & mountains from the lanai is spectacular. Hank & Barbara are the perfect hosts. They are efficient, yet, friendly without being intrusive. We enjoy the scenic byways & small villages of Upcountry Maui. There are many fine restaurants with good food & local musical entertainment. The citrus fruit, pineapple fields, & fragrant colorful tropical flowers add a special touch to the island experience. Awe inspiring are the rainbows appearing & disappearing as the sun shines through a gently soft & misty rain, all adding to the almost ethereal atmosphere of Upcountry Maui. We like to relax with coffee & fresh scones while sitting at the Hookipa Bay Overlook watching the surfers & wind surfers ride the waves. Great place to catch a glimpse of whales also. The cottage is located near everything we enjoy and yet is tucked away in a peaceful & quiet location. We have been able to stay at Hookipa Bayview cottage for an entire month each year for the past three years and are looking forward to coming back again in 2011. We love it at Hookipa Bayview cottage. Warren & Diana Elkart, INDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0
