We are a young couple who went for our honeymoon. Gabriela and Douglas the owners really made the experience. They are very professional and courteous helping out guests in any way possible with tips about the island. Our plane arrived late due to weather and they offered us a free frozen pizza and Coca-cola the first night of our stay because we were tired from traveling. They also gave us a bottle of champagne to celebrate our new marriage, and then took us to the grocery store the next day and supplied shopping tips and tips about exploring the island. The inside of the cottages are very clean and well furnished. Gabriela and Douglas obviously take pride in keeping all of the amenities in prime condition. The outside of the cottages are beginning to show some weather wear, and the mosquitoes and biting flies in the evenings prevented us from enjoying the outside as much as we could have, but the setting is truly beautiful. The pictures are accurate that there are lovely flowering bushes all around the property that are in constant bloom and there are many varieties of birds that come and visit the flowers including a beautiful hummingbird we once saw. The beach is a short, five minute walk through the Coconut Beach Resort. Beach towels are supplied along with beach chairs and a cooler to pack drinks or lunch. Gabriela and Douglas helped us arrange renting a car and we had fun exploring the island. This is an excellent base for anyone who does not want an all-inclusive resort, and is instead looking for a way to learn more about the island as a whole.Did you find this review helpful? It is always hard to convince others how good it really is! Yepton Estate Cottages have now been open for 6 years, we know as this was our seventh stay there. To celebrate Gabriela put us in the brand new #3 Cottage, wheelchair accessible which Douglas was bound & determined to accomplish. Spacious & exceeding well laid out, this cottage adds to the charm of the Yepton Cottages now numbering six, two studios, three one-bedrooms, one extra space. This can be used as a second bedroom or stand alone single. The cottages form an arc looking out over a brackish lagoon separated from the ocean by a sand beach. The lagoon teems with birds & fish, pelicans, egrets, whistling ducks, moor hens, frigate birds, above and tarpon & others below. The tropical breezes come down the valley behind the cottages or in from the sea making sitting out very comfortable. Gabie & Douglas always go out of their way to be sure their guests have all their questions answered, their reservations made, their excursions planned. We get asked why to we keep going back to Antigua, we still find new places to visit or old to revisit, a beach, a restaurant, a church, a fort, a craftsperson; we also find the people of Antigua very friendly; we have a delightful place to stay, run by Gabriela & Douglas wonderful people!Did you find this review helpful? Just had a wonderful 10 days in Antigua staying at Yepton. The cottages are in a lovely spot next to a lake and five minutes walk from two beautiful beaches. Gabriela and Douglas gave us a very warm welcome, driving us to the supermarket, showing us all the best places to visit...even arranging a hire car for us. I would strongly recommend this place to anyone who wants a good base for touring the island and a bit of peace and quiet. Our cottage had everything we needed, including a hammock and a barbeque. Our only regret was we didn't stay longer!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We had heard many great things/reviews about Yepton, and we were happy to find they were all so true! The estates were lovely and the owners were great. Gabby & Douglas (owners) made our first trip to Antigua an amazing one! Upon arrival we were taken to the supermarket, and shown around town a bit. This was very helpful and much appreciated! Douglas also went over the map with us, told us about all the great beaches and recommended sights and restaurants. We did not feel overwhelmed with deciding where to go and what to do because we were so well informed about Antigua after getting the low-down from the owners. The cottage itself was great! We were on our honeymoon but looking for something that would allow us to be us vs an all inclusive resort, which isn't our thing. It was perfect. We could cook in the well equipped kitchen (it had everything we needed), grill and hang out on the large porch or hammock. It feels like you have your own little house on an island! :-) We had a great trip and experience staying at Yepton, we would highly recommend it!Did you find this review helpful? After reading numerous oustanding comments on tripadvisor we decided to go to Yepton Cottages for our holidays. This was such a good choice, we didn' regret it one second. We loved it and would definitely recommend it. The cottages are even better than our high expectations...There is just everything! And don't get me started on the kitchen. Nothing is missing, even things you were not expecting and that are very useful and convenient. Finally, Gabriela and Douglas are " Stars!". They are very nice and here to help. Gabriela brought us to the best Supermarket on Antigua and Douglas kindly showed us all the places, restaurants and beaches to go to! So one advice, go,go,go!!!Did you find this review helpful? We had not been to Antigua before so we relied a lot on reviews and research to plan our vacation. We decided to stay at Yepton after reading the great reviews and we were not disappointed. Gabriela and Douglas were so welcoming and accomodating and the cottage had everything we needed and was a great home base for our travels. We enjoy renting a car and exploring on our own and Douglas took the time to sit with us and a map and give us detailed information about things to do, beaches to visit, and places to eat. The kitchen and BBQ were great, as we were able to make ourselves breakfast, lunch and dinner on various days, which undoubtedly helped us save money. There is a lovely beach only a 5 minute walk away and our boat tour was able to pick us up at the beach which was very convenient. Overall we had a lovely stay with Gabriela and Douglas and would highly recommend the cottages to anyone.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway.

Just returned from two wonderful weeks at Yepton Estate Cottages. (Feb. 22 - March 9, 2013.) We were overwhelmed with the hospitality that Gabbie and Doug showed us. They went out of their way to make sure our vacation was one to be remembered. Doug's knowledge of the island helped us find with ease the best beaches, resturants and places of interest. A rental car is a must if you want to explore this beautiful Island. Gabbie's attention to detail provided 5 star accomodations. The cottages and grounds are top notch with all the amenities you would expect at a five star resort. If you are planning a trip to antigua we would highly recommend making Yepton Estate Cottages your home away from home.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Starting with our initial communication with Gabriele and Douglas (owners), Yepton Estates was a great experience! Gabriele was patient, responsive, informative and friendly when answering all our questions. We prefer small properties with kitchens that offer a swimming pool with proximity to a beach and interesting surroundings (wildlife, views). Yepton Estates was all this and more. The six cottages are like brand new, well equipped and spacious. We loved our front porch that overlooked a salt water lagoon and spent hours there watching the wildlife and great view. Gabby and Douglas were excellent hosts (and better than any concierge we have encountered) and helped us tailor make our trip to fit our interests! We have used tripadvisor multiple times to find small properties and have had great success. Yepton Estates was just as described in the reviews we read and exceeded the expectations we had!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Do you want to be catered upon 24/7, be surrounded by tons of all-inclusive package-tourists, be confined to one beach and one (gated) resort, with beach chairs as far as the eye can see, loud music and activities galore, your only experience with the rest of the island being through an organized tour? If you are looking for the above, Yepton Estate Cottages is not for you. However, if you prefer your beach vacation to come with a dose of adventure, enjoy a self-catered vacation, where you eat and drink what you want, when you want, where you can actually relax and enjoy privacy, where you can find your favourite spots on a Caribbean island and actually feel like you've gotten to know the country after your stay... Then like us, and the many reviewers before us, you will LOVE Yepton Estate Cottages. Some of the great perks of Yepton: 1) Gabriella and Douglas: Like everyone has said before - they are absolutely amazing. 2) The cottage: The cottage is so well equipped, cozy and comfortable. It was really our home for the week we stayed. 3) The peace: Yepton is peaceful and quiet. It is just you and 4 other cottages. People who stay at Yepton are quiet, will wave when they see you in the morning, or you might have a chat about your adventures of the day while looking at a rare bird by the lake. We loved the atmosphere. 4) The location: Yepton is a 10-15 minutes drive to St. John's, in the Five Islands area of Antigua. It is very pretty, hilly and green in the area around the cottages, and there is not very much around, so it is quiet. 5) The supermarket that Gabriella and Douglas take you to (Epicurian) is amazing. 6) If you are Canadian and from Quebec, you will find liquor cheap and should buy liquor in Antigua. 7) To car or not to car: We hesitated for a long time as to whether or not we should rent a car. Indeed, there are two beaches within easy walking distance from Yepton: Coconut Beach (5-6 minutes) or Deep Bay (10-15 maybe?). 8) Favourite Beaches? One thing we really loved about Antigua was the diversity of its beaches. For such a small place, beaches can be so different. Our favourites were Ffryes Bay Beach, Darkwood Beach, Half Moon Bay and the first Hawksbill beach. These beaches were all very quiet, which we really liked (unlike Long Bay, Turner's Beach, Valley Church, other Hawksbill beaches, Deep Bay). We would not hesitate to recommend a stay at Yepton!!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Many thanks to Gabbie and Douglas who made our first trip to the Caribbean so enjoyable. We took a taxi from the airport, were taken by Gabbie to the supermarket to get provisions before being given a detailed run down of the island by Douglas the next day. We used local buses to go to Nelson's dockyard and to see cricket at the Sir Vivien Richards stadium, Hired a car for two days and found driving fine as long as you look out for potholes. Nobody is in a hurry and locals look out for you if you stop. We did not drive at night but others did. The location is idyllic overlooking the lagoon but near enough to the sea to hear the waves on the shore. You can walk to two beaches one 5 min the other 15 min. For us, having an early morning cup of tea by the lagoon watching pelicans, egrets and frigate birds will remain an abiding memory. Loved every minuteDid you find this review helpful? We took our much longed-for honeymoon in Antigua, and we couldn't have asked for a more idyllic base than Yepton Estate. The blend of its naturally beautiful lakeside setting (with a dipping pool on site, and lovely beaches just a short walk away), our perfectly cosy, clean and brilliantly equipped cottage (everything from our own veranda bbq to a kingsized bed, great kitchen facilities, DVD/stereo, a coolbox for long days in the sunshine...), and crucially, the exceptionally thoughtful hospitality, charm and super-savvy island tips of Yepton owners Gabriela and Douglas Luery, all added up to a blissful experience that we'll cherish forever. We were able to independently explore Antigua without the artificial constraints of all-inclusive resorts, but we could also luxuriate in a warm, homely atmosphere - and Gabriela helped us arrange anything from our settling-in supplies to booking fantastic restaurant tables (a sunset view at Sheer Rock - mind-blowing). Yepton's reputation preceded it, as we'd heard heartfelt recommendations from family and friends - and our honeymoon experience exceeded it! We hope we'll return one day...Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Having traveled many Caribbean islands we fell in love with Antigua 5 years ago. This being our third trip back, Yepton Estate Cottages, provides us a great base to visit the many beautiful beaches and restaurants needed to blow-off the winter doldrums living in the northeast USA. Gabie and Douglas, that we now call friends, have your best interests at heart to see and enjoy all the island has to offer. Yepton is a quit little peninsula that requires driving through St Johns that really gives you a good sense of the local life and seeing the giant cruse ships that dock there. Yepton Estate Cottages is a beautiful little place on a lagoon with Coconut beach beyond and short walk from Deep Bay. We recommend this for anyone looking for a quit place to relax and explore the island.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

This was exactly the experience we were looking for in a honeymoon. After a busy season of wedding planning Yepton Estate Cottages was the perfect place to get away and rest. Gabriela and Douglas equipped us to enjoy the whole island with their attention to detail, service and experience by coordinating everything from renting a car, booking tours, getting groceries, navigating the island and cultural orientation. The accommodations are spotless and very well equipped, The view of the lagoon and ocean was amazing. We spent many mornings and afternoons on the porch/in the hammock enjoying the cool ocean breeze. The quiet, private nature of the cottages provided a welcome respite. It was also a good location to begin exploring the island (5 minute walk to the beach, 10 minute drive to St. John). This is the place to stay if a fancy, over-crowded commercialized resort is not your style. We would not hesitate to recommend Yepton to anyone wanting to spend their honeymoon, romantic getaway, or vacation in Antigua. We absolutely loved every minute of our time spent here! Room Tip: There are no bad cottages!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Lovely individual and peaceful cottages which were clean, very well equipped and comfortable. What really made the stay special was the outstanding way the owners went out of their way to enhance our holiday with advice on beaches, restaurants, routes etc. Nothing seemed too much trouble and when I left my cash and credit cards in the safe Douglas brought them to the airport - a not inconsiderable task. They say that they try to treat their guests as they would like to be treated themselves. They clearly like to be treated wellDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We have just returned from a fabulous stay at the Yepton Estate Cottages. We arrived with plenty of stress and left with relaxed, laid-back and tanned bodies! What a complete pleasure it was. Gabriela and Douglas make it a priority of theirs to accommodate your every need. We had a car ready for us and Douglas has a wealth of knowledge about the island that he readily shares and a great understanding of the maps that help you get to some of the finest beaches and tucked- away spots that only a " local" would know. We especially loved their attitude towards helping us find the best grocery stores or parking lots in town or flat-water swimming gems. .Nothing is ever a bother. The cottage is well equipped with everything one needs, plus some. We cooked great meals and enjoyed the Red Stripe beer and the great Chilean wines which were a terrific deal. Probably best to book directly with Gabriela since she always aims to please and accommodate her guests as well as being able to make the other arrangements such as car rental. It really takes the hassle out of the planning and allows you to dive right into your vacation with ease and pleasure. Truly,a little hidden treasure on an island of delight.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Since we hate boring all-inclusives and love trying local eats, as well as exploring different beaches, Yepton was perfect for us. These quaint little Caribbean cottages have fully stocked kitchens (tupperware, pots and pans, bottle and can openers, you name it!) plus lawn chairs and ice chests and beach towels, etc. They also have comfy beds, plenty of storage and seating, a great shower and a wonderful porch with a giant bbq grill. There is a pool and a wonderful hammock under a big shady tree outside as well. We really loved the eco friendly aspect (solar power, conservation) of the cottages as well. We woke up everyday, ate breakfast in our sweet little cottage, packed a picnic lunch and headed for different beaches. At night we tried different delicious restaurants we had read about and/or heard about from Gabriela and Douglas. G & D are the best hosts ever! So friendly and knowledgeable and helpful. Douglas can explain how to get anywhere on the island, and Gabriela helped us with dinner recommendations and reservations. They both had interesting stories about the island to offer as well. Driving is definitely challenging in Antigua due to the lack of signage and road names, but it is an adventure exploring and the scenery is beautiful. If you are looking for a non-resort type vacation, look no farther. You can't go wrong with Yepton Estate Cottages and are guaranteed to enjoy Antigua and meeting your hosts Gabriela and Douglas!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

There is nothing quite as comparable to waking up to the melody of chirping birds and the thrashing of the surf, followed by sharing one’s breakfast on the porch with the pelicans and geckos! Our weeklong stay at the Yepton Estates was simply one of the most relaxing and enjoyable vacations ever. Our family of six, including mom, dad, and four teenagers, stayed in two of the five sweet yellow cottages on the property. The semi-rustic exteriors belie the spacious, updated and spic & span interiors. Our cottages were nearest to the lake, which allowed for plenty of opportunity to spend our mornings watching pelicans skim the water while admiring the serenity of our surroundings. Each cottage has one bedroom, a large bathroom, an extremely well-stocked kitchen with an attached living area/dining room and a lovely porch with a table and chairs. By day 2, each of us had endeared ourselves to different parts of the cottage. My college-going daughter, for instance, occasionally opted out of our forays to the beach, to sit on the porch for inspiration as she wrote her thesis. I was enthralled by the kitchen, which had every necessity (coffee machine/ blender / quality cookware) one might need on vacation-and amazingly everything worked! Yepton Estates is a fifteen-minute drive from the airport, just beyond the township of St. John’s, a bit off the beaten path. This cozy little haven is somewhat secluded and away from the hubbub of tourists, a blessing for larger families like ours who have enough chaos within the family so that we really don’t want to be in the thick of it when on holiday! While the location and the cottages are lovely, what makes Yepton Estates truly delightful are its hosts, Gabriela and Doug Luery. They made every effort to make our stay as comfortable and enjoyable as ever, without ever being intrusive. On our arrival we were greeted with chilled water, apple juice for the kids, and a bottle of wine for the adults. Gabriela even offered to pick up coffee and a variety of breads for us from the grocery store on our first evening. The following morning, Doug gave us a really useful run down on the island – which beaches to visit, what to avoid, routes to take etc, with bits of history thrown in for good measure. Sharon, the housekeeper who usually does a full-service cleaning on the fourth day was also lovely. She made sure to introduce herself and waited patiently to clean our cottage, encouraging us to ‘take our time-no rush.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

We stayed for 10 nights in Yepton and enjoyed every single day we spent there. All the things written in the other reviews are true Gabby and Douglas really are great hosts. Upon arrival (the cottages are set in a lovely location), Gabby gave us a drink and then Douglas drove us to the supermarket. Gabby helped organise car hire for a week (which was very smooth and all went well) and booked us taxis for some other days. On our first morning, we had breakfast with a number of friendly birds that would subsequently appear each day and then Douglas took us through the map and recommended places to go, things to see, good restaurants and very helpful driving tips/directions. We were impressed by all the recommendations that he gave us. We stayed in the studio cottage which was lovely and had a very well stocked kitchen. There are a number of extras in the cottage such as beach towels, beach chairs, cool box etc all things that really make a difference. We were also given a phone which we didn’t use much, but it is a nice touch and very useful to have just in case. We saw a lot of the island during our stay and always looked forward to getting back to our “home”. Thank youDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This accommodation was excellent and just what we were looking for. We had researched many of the larger hotel resort type complexes on lots of different Islands across the Caribbean but preferred something more personal and less crowded and that exactly what we got with Gabby and Douglas at Yepton Cottages. Our cottage was very comfortable with a nice kitchen and living room area and an excellent veranda overlooking the lake. You could hear the sound of the sea from here and see the palm trees that indicated the back of the beach (less than a 5 minute walk away). This was an excellent place to start the day with breakfast outside. Gabby and Douglas were the perfect hosts - very helpful and incredibly welcoming. For instance on our first day in antigua Douglas spent a long time giving us some excellent advice on where to visit and what to see. And then Gabby drove us into town so we could do our food shopping for the week and even gave us the free use of a mobile phone for week. This sort of personalised treatment made us feel more like one of the family than a paying guest. Overall, I would definitely recommend Yepton Cottages, especially if you're looking for a holiday in the Caribbean without having to go down the all-inclusive, package holiday type experience. The accommodation is very comfortable, clean, reasonably priced and with excellent hosts. We had a great week and were very sad to leave!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Although we only had time to stay for four and a half days, we felt so at home with Gabriela and Douglas and in our perfect little cottage at Yepton Estates. We are haters of all-inclusive hotels as we love to try all of the local restaurants, so this place was more than perfect for us. It's your own Caribbean cottage stocked with a full kitchen and everything from beach chairs & towels to pots and pans and bottle openers. We loved being able to eat breakfast in our own kitchen, make a picnic and take it to go in the provided ice chest and eat on the beach! We rented a car and were able to explore the whole island in our short time there and go to so many wonderful beaches and restaurants. Gabriela and Doug gave us wonderful recommendations and perfect directions (Douglas knows the island roads and locations probably better than anyone in Antigua and has even helped with making maps/putting the island on GPS!). Our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer. We slept comfortably, really enjoyed the location of Yepton and the grounds (I could have rested for weeks in the hammock outside of our cottage!), the amenities of the cottage and most of all, our wonderful hosts! I can't imagine staying there without renting a car, but if you like to be able to make your own food and eat at different restaurants, and have an adventurous spirit and like to explore, this is the perfect place to stay in Antigua!Did you find this review helpful? My husband and I just returned from a 11 night stay at the Yepton Estate Cottages. The owners, Gabie and Douglas, were a delight to deal with and very helpful in answering all of our questions prior to our arrival. We felt like we were at "home" in this rental from the moment we arrived! The cottage was spotless and well stocked with everyday essentials like cookware, dish towels, cutlery, dinner plates, cereal bowls, glasses, coffee mugs, serving bowls etc., and BBQ equipment (including parking). The list goes on and on - it literally had everything we needed! Once we arrived, Gabie escorted us to the local food mart and helped us select the grocery items that we needed for our stay. At our request, Gabie also pre-booked a rental car and personally booked all our snorkeling tours etc. as well as dinner reservations during our vacation. Douglas graciously took the time to review a map of the island marking points of interest , wonderful beach bars/restaurants and even gave us some valuable island driving tips. Each cottage included a wonderful array of tourist/guide books which also helped us plan our daily activities. A pre-loaded cell phone was provided so we could reach Gabie or Douglas if we had any questions while we were away from the cottage. We toured the entire island and never felt far from "home." Our visits to the many beaches were so much more fun because beach gear was provided which included towels, chairs and a cooler for drinks and pre-packed lunches! My husband and I both felt that our Antiguan vacation/experience far exceeded our expectations. Gabie and Douglas were extremely welcoming, attentive and accommodating! We not only had a vacation of a lifetime but made life long friends along the way! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Yepton Estate Cottages to family or friends. We can't wait to come back, and would certainly not stay any where else. Well done, Gabie and Doug, well done!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

If you're looking for a peaceful and relaxing getaway, you'll be very pleased with the Yepton Estate Cottages. My husband and I were pleasantly surprised at the hospitality of the owners, Gabby and Douglas who made us feel welcome and were exceptionally accomodating from the moment we arrived until the time we left. The cottage itself it quaint and fashionably decorated with a bit of an island/ nautical flair and included a kitchenette with accessories; bathroom with large open shower and bowl sink; and king sized wrought iron and wood bed with armoire and dresser. The cottages border a tranquil lake and a modest pool area and is within walking distance from the beach. This is definitely a great alternative when looking for hotels on your vacation.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Wonderful hosts, have lived on the island for 25+ years, so truly knew the best restaurants, beaches, a mine of local information. Gaby arranged car-rental which was delivered promptly the next day. Advise 4x4 if you want to explore some of the more remote areas. Doug supplied us with beach chairs, sun-umbrella, cool-box and fishing equipment for days on the beach. Extremely peaceful tranquil location. Cottages fully equipped with everything you might need. Excellent fast internet connection. You can fish in the lake in front of the cottage, Only moving on as our daughter is joining us and we need 2 bedrooms otherwise we would have stayed here our whole vacation. Would love to come back.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

The better half uses Trip Advisor to research and select potential holiday venues. She told me the reports about Yepton Estate on Antigua’s Five Islands Peninsula were the best she'd ever seen - so we booked. Good choice! The two fabulous weeks we spent there in early November 2012 were probably our best holiday ever! The reviews were entirely correct! Owners Gabriela & Douglas contributed hugely to our enjoyment. When you arrive knackered after your long flight, it’s great to be received by a host as welcoming as Gabie as she made the check-in procedure pass in a whirl over a glass of chilled white wine or beer. After giving us an hour or so to acclimatize, shower and change, she then took time out to drive us to a local well-stocked and modern supermarket and orientate us about the island's capital, St Johns. Next morning, Douglas popped in with a map and gave us a comprehensive low down on just about everything to do in Antigua. Our cottage (Yepton 1) was quiet, pretty, secure and boasted an amazing lakeside view across which would float the soft sounds of the ocean (a convenient 5 minute walk away through the main hotel grounds). It was kept spotlessly clean (thanks to cleaner Sharon who was a delight!), the shower hot, the huge bed comfortable and the kitchen better equipped than our own! You could laze all day (and usually the better half did!) in the patio hammock, ducking humming birds and watching the wildlife over, in and around the lake. Perfect! The entrances to the Coconut and Royal Antigua Beach Hotels are adjacent and Yepton Estate lies just within the former’s boundary. We were very grateful to the staff at these hotels (and the nearby Hawksbill Beach Hotel) who let us use their (beach) facilities without hindrance. The beaches at each were excellent for swimming and snorkelling ('though not much to see) and there were views to die for from the hills overlooking them. Unfortunately when we were there, the sea at Coconut was a bit mucky - but we stress that this was down to the weather post-hurricane Sandy and not the ever-pleasant and accommodating management. We saw in one report that Yepton "was somewhat secluded." Well - the area's attraction is that it is all rather quiet, peaceful and restful. So go there to recharge your batteries! If your idea of fun is jet skiing round the bay all day, generally making a racket and slicing chunks out of the bathers, please don’t go to Yepton! Go somewhere else!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This is a great alternative to an all inclusive resort. After a stressful period of our lives we really needed a relaxing holiday and Yepton was just right. The cottages have everything you could want for a self catering holiday and lots of extras such as beach towels and beach chairs. You can even borrow DVDs to watch in the evening. The huge bed was lovely and we were sorry to leave it to go home! Each cottage has a balcony over looking the salt water lake where you can enjoy the birds and wildlife. Probably one of the best things about Yepton were the hosts – they were so welcoming and helpful. Check in was speedy and easy. They helped us arrange our hire car and gave lots of really useful information about where to visit on the island and how to get there. If you don't want to hire a car there are beaches nearby you can walk to. I would recommend Yepton Estate to anyone wanting a relaxing holiday.Did you find this review helpful? It is hard not to duplicate the superlatives already lavished on this glorious place, so I will concentrate my review mostly on a few practical tips should you decide to stay here. It is not surprising that this gem has won so many awards and delighted so many. We completely agree with the 5 star ratings across the board for this property. The hospitality of the owners, Gabriela and Douglas, is unrivalled in my experience of travelling in 33 countries on 5 continents. I have abbreviated their names to G&D hereafter. It’s not the cheapest place to stay, but “you get what you pay for in this life” and you may get a better rate by booking direct rather than going through a third party. The properties are well-maintained, and kept spotlessly clean (thank you Sharon, the maid). We stayed in one of the 1-bedroom cottages. We had become jaded by supposed 4-5 star, all inclusive hotels in holiday destinations and their impersonal service, “conveyor-belt” buffets where “you eat because it’s there, not because you’re hungry”, dire entertainment, and so on. We wanted sun & relaxation in an idyllic setting, within walking distance of quiet beaches – and that’s what we got. Catering for ourselves was not a chore, we took the opportunity to buy local fish and produce to cook, and it was fun. We took a small risk and stayed at the end of October through to early November, right at the tail of the hurricane season. The weather was glorious, one sharp shower lasting 5 minutes on one day, and the occasional shower at night. The beaches were almost deserted and the roads free of traffic. A lot of birds had gone (due to Storm Sandy) so the lagoon wasn’t teeming with wildlife (as it is from late December onwards) but there were plenty of pelican, heron, duck, cattle egret, ibis, green winged teal, yellowlegs, pintal, etc. to watch from the comfort of our sun loungers. Plus hummingbirds flitting around in the trees, mongoose running across the grass, and giant frigate birds overhead at dusk, on their way back to Barbuda. You get the picture…Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

I very rarely return anywhere twice let alone three times so this alone tells anyone reading that this is a great place to stay. Comfort and safety when on holiday are all to me and these are both in abundance at these cottages. I have now stayed in both the one bedroomed and a studio cottage and know both are are a home from home. The welcome from Gabie and Douglas plus their dogs was as usual wonderful. Another lovely welcome card for my collection awaited me with one of Gabie's super paintings on the cover. I had six nights of pure relaxation and knew that if I needed anything assistance was just up the path. Two weeks home and I am suffering from withdrawal symptomsDid you find this review helpful? My partner and I have just returned from a fantastic holiday at Yepton Estate Cottages and we would thoroughly recommend it to anyone wishing to visit Antigua. Gabby and Doug were perfect hosts and extremely welcoming and kind to us. Nothing was too much for them - they really went above and beyond. When we arrived at Yepton we were welcomed with a cold beer and were shown round our lovely studio cottage. The cottage was very clean, comfortable and very well equipped. It had a great front terrace with a fantastic view overlooking the pool and the lagoon where you can see many different types of birds including pelicans fishing. We spent many happy mornings and evenings sitting on the terrace watching the birds and mongoose. Doug kindly lent us a bird book so we could see what kind of species we were looking at. We also borrowed some fishing rods, took out the rowing boat on the lagoon and tried a bit of fishing. Although this time we didn't have any luck you can sometimes see the fish splashing on the surface so we know there are some pretty big fish in there! The cottage is a short walk from Yepton beach which has white sands and lovely warm clear blue sea which is great for swimming. There are also a few rocks with tropical fish which is great fun if you like snorkeling. Another beach, Deep Bay, is about a 10/15 minute walk and is another beautiful beach with very calm water. I would recommend taking Gabby up on her offer to go to the supermarket which is very well stocked and had everything we needed. The supermarket is about a 15 minute drive away through St Johns. Doug gave us a map and went through where to go and how to get there which was really helpful as sometimes the Antiguan maps aren't very accurate. We spent the first part of our holiday enjoying the cottage and the beaches nearby. We then decided to rent a car and see more of the island. Gabby helped us with hiring a car which was delivered to the cottage. The company we used was Tropical car rental which were fine and Gabby was able to organise trips for us (eg Stingray City) which was very helpful and saved us some time. Driving in Antigua is pretty laid back but be aware that there are some pretty big potholes.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Prior to booking I read the various reviews regarding how friendly and helpful Gabriela and Douglas were. I was also apprehensive regarding the self catering aspect - we have always travelled on a half board or all inclusive package. However, on arrival, it was apparent that we had made a good choice. We were warmly welcomed, the cottage was very well appointed with everything that one could possibly need, and Gabriela drove us to the large local supermarket (everything available) once we had settled in. The location of the cottage was superb, and the birdlife/animal life associated with the lagoon kept us interested throughout. It's a short walk to the nearest soft sand beach - 10 minutes. Here one can relax on the available sun loungers and have use of the hotel bar/restaurant. Douglas gave us advice on the island and its history, and recommended certain places to visit. This we found very helpful. In summary, a very enjoyable, relaxing and laid back 10 night stay.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Yepton is a quiet and idyllic location, the cabins are lovely, well equipped and excellently maintained. Gabriella and Douglas are extremely service, loan mobile phone. and enter the phone number to a very reliable taxi driver. And Gabriella takes us to buy food and even she and Douglas us with an evening of eating fish and chips "the antiguan way" with friends they knew who sold it, we ate and enjoyed ourselves .. They also shared willingly with us their knowledge about Antigua, for example. good restaurants etc.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Translated from Italian Fully confirm all the previous reviews that speak so well of Yepton Estate Cottages. Its all true! We spent 5 days unforgettable. We were pampered from our arrival until our departure. Recommended by no means the rental car, but do not worry about anything, they will think of everything Gabby and Douglas, if you wish. They will give you valuable advice on which beaches to visit or where to go out for dinner. Will they make you feel at home without ever being intrusive. Hard to get any better, really! We chose a cottage in antigua as we wanted a place for ourselves & our 20 month old toddler. On arrival we were met at the airport by our hospitable host along with a child's car seat. It was additional extra touches such as this throughout our stay that made Doug & Gabby such good hosts. The self catering cottages had everything you needed & the large gas barbie on the veranda overlooking the lake made cooking a pleasure not a chore. We made friends with two tame finches who along with the pelicans, humming birds, egrets & cranes to name but a few kept the whole family entertained for hours. Our cottage overlooked a lake on the other side of which was the beach & sea accessible within a 5 minute walk. On the days our son didnt fancy the waves in the sea he had plenty of fun splasing in the shared pool by the villa. The island was small enough to cover within our 10 day stay by hire car so we were able to see all the major sites which Doug mapped out for us. All in all a wonderful time, highly recommended.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Following a restful few days at Yepton in 2011 I revisted in May 2012 and this time rented a studio cottage. This was just as nice as the one bedroom cottage I had last time but had no direct view of the lake. Instead a super view of the gardens and the plants outside my cottage had hummingbirds on every morning when I had breakfast. If you like quietness and being off the beaten track you will love it here. A car is really needed to see the rest of the island but buses run within a mile of the estate and the road is an easy walk. There is a lovely and not too busy beach within a few minutes walk and trips can be booked to pick one up from this beach. The studio cottage I stayed in was immaculate, well equipped and had the added bonus of colourful and skilled paintings by Gabby Luery on the walls. These cottages are ideal for one person though easily big enough for a couple and I was very comfortable.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We enjoyed a fabulous week in the one bed cottage on Yepton Estate. The cottages are arranged on the edge of a salt lake just inland from the beach which is accessible via 5 min walk thru local hotel. The lake is teaming with bird life and, if you don't discourage the finches so are the cottages! Its a great place to cook with local produce from the huge supermarket or fresh produce markets in St. Johns. Kitchen and barbecue grill is so well equipped (also cable TV and Wifi). Car hire for some of your stay is a must. What really differentiates this accommodation is Gabby and Douglas who are fantastic hosts. Taking time to explain the maps, the best opportunities for beaches, food days out etc etc. The nicest touch of all is taking you to the supermarket on Day 1 so you can acclimatize to the interesting local driving before taking the plunge in your hire car. Thank you for making our stay so special.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

In deciding to go to Antigua--we wanted to make sure that we got to see the island and not just a resort. We began looking at vacation rentals and found the beautiful self-catering cottages of Yepton Estates. When I originally found Yepton Estates and read the incredible reviews, I first thought it must be too good to be true! Trusting the reviews, we booked our stay. Gabby, the owner, was very useful as we prepared for our trip--answering any questions I had about the island or the accommodations. In arriving at Yepton Estates (a short drive from the airport by taxi--approx $20), Gabby and Douglas were warm and welcoming with a cold drink. They showed us around the cottage (a 1 bedroom) and drove us to the local supermarket where all the food was safe for me to eat during pregnancy. They assured us that we could call them at any time (from the cell phone they provides us) for any reason. The cottage and surrounding area was beautifully kept, with a great view of a lake and the not-too-far ocean. Douglas' knowledge of the island and road systems was invaluable to our navigating the island in our car rental. A car rental is the best way to see the great beaches and sites Antigua has to offer. If you want to see the island and enjoy amazing beaches, having the ability to come and go as you please--do yourself a favor and stay at Yepton Estates. The lovely owners will take care of you like family while giving you space to enjoy your private getaway. They will take care of your car rental booking, restaurant reservations, and taxi bookings, anything you need. All you have to do is relax and enjoy the island! Yepton Estates earns and deserves every good rating they receive and you won't be disappointed to spend your vacation at this incredible location!Did you find this review helpful? Service is great! The estate is run by owners, Gaby and Douglas, wife & husband, who made sure we settled in well. Check-in is quick and seamless and we were given a complimentary bottle of wine and cell phone with local sim + numbers for emergencies. Gaby gave us a tour of St John's in her car and recommended restaturants, shops, etc. Douglas also went over a map of the island with us, detailing all the neat spots to see, do, and eat. Throughout the rest of our stay, they always made sure we were comfortable. Location: We rented a car at the airport, and it took a bit of head-scratching, guessing and asking locals for directions, but we blame the maps which are poorly drawn. But you should be fine if you grab a cab. Also, the locals in the area were familiar with Yepton. Note, if Yepton does not ring their bell, ask them for directions to the bigger resort, Coconut Beach Club, which shares the same entrance as Yepton. The Estate is located in the Five Islands Peninsula of antigua (west), which is conveniently and relatively closely (but not too close) located to (i) downtown St John's, (ii) airport, (iii) a number of beaches dotting the west coast, and (iv) Deep Bay where you can do some snorkeling. Amenities: The Estate is very lovely and generally well kept. There is a hammock in the middle of the garden which we frequently used (with only four cottages, there were few visitors, which made the experience so much more intimate and personable). There is a very lovely and quaint lake at the Estate with bird life incl. pelicans and ducks. Each cottage has its own patio and gas grill. Our cottage was clean, well-kept, and equipped with a full kitchen (we even got a cooler that came in handy for snorkeling trips).Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We returned to the Yepton Estate Cottages for another wonderful stay. We have been to Antigua many times but never run out of new places to try & places we have been before & want to visit or eat there again. Antigua natives are quite considerate of us tourists even when we are driving on their side of road. We have come to know many shopkeepers by name & they us. We like 'a la carte' trips, we often have a nice lunch & cook supper in our very well equipped cottage. Our hosts Gabriela & Douglas will critique or day trips & remind us of landmarks for driving. They will make car, taxi, tour, arrangements & know the good ones. They will help you to make your Antigua visit special, they are wonderful. Their cottages are a quiet setting with ready access to town & beaches.Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We have never returned to stay in the same place twice, but Yepton Estate is so special we just wanted to go back again and we are likely to do so again in the future. Gabby and Douglas are fantastic hosts and really understand what clients are seeking. The cottages are freshly painted each year and are immaculately maintained, comfortably furnished and the kitchen we'll equipped. We normally stay at 5 star hotels but the simple cottage provides a home from home but in the paradise of antigua. Everything we need for a quiet self catering holiday is provided (beach chairs, cooler box, deck hammock, BBQ, local mobile phone, reservations at restaurants through Gabby's referral). The location is perfect, central to the islands best beaches on the west coast, with a 5 minute walk through grounds to a perfect Caribbean beach. Access to the property is hidden and secure as you have to pass Gabby and Douglas home. This is simply the best self catering accommodation on antigua. Small is beautiful and Yepton's five cottages are the most beautiful of all.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

The cottages are well equipped, the location is very beautiful, quiet, and only a short walk from the beach. Douglas and Gabriela took care of so many things, like arranging the car rental, they went with us to the supermarket, they told us all about the best restaurants, beautiful beaches, important historic sites, etc. If before staying here I would have considered staying in an all-inclusive-resort, now I am so glad we did not. Our third vacation here, because Gabie and Douglas make sure that the accommodation is just right and because they go to great lengths to satisfy our wishes. The cottages are spacious, spotlessly clean and comfortable. The lagoon is so unusual and the birdlife is extraordinary. Swimming, at the beach, is a short walk away.
