Camden estate description
Our seven bedroom Camden Harbor home on Sherman's Cove offers visitors the opportunity to stay in an elegant Maine coast cottage-style home with wrap-around porches and views of the tide rising and falling on the cove, the sounds and sights of flocks of feeding seabirds all framed by the Camden Hills, which offer stunning sunsets.
As you enter the house through the front portico from a circular driveway and flower garden, the main hall opens up to a winding mahogany staircase to the second floor. At the main entrance to your left is a spacious living room with large sofas and arm chairs around a fireplace, a grand piano and book cases with French doors that open to Sherman's Cove with views of inner Camden Harbor in the distance. To your right at the main entrance, is a large kitchen and sitting with two additional sofas and arm chair. A marble-topped island separates the sitting area from the kitchen. The kitchen features a double wall oven, five-burner range, microwave, sink and refrigerator-freezer surrounded by marble counters. Connecting the kitchen and living room on the cove side is the dining room with a long table that can seat 8-10, with French doors that open to the spacious porch.
A secondary entrance from the driveway through a mudroom houses w washer/dryer and access to a back porch and outdoor shower.
Upstairs in the main house on one side of the staircase is the master bedroom, with queen bed, views over the cove, dressing room, and spacious bath with sink and vanity, shower and claw-footed tub. At the other end of the staircase are three smaller bedrooms, each with a built-in double ideal for couples or children. A second bath at this end of the staircase has a sink, vanity and shower/tub.
Back on the main floor, a breezeway off the living room connects to an attached barn with three bedrooms. The downstairs bedroom with a king sized bed has its own bath with shower, sink and vanity with French doors to a porch with views to the cove. Upstairs is a large living room with sofas and armchairs, floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, as well as a kitchenette with stove and small refrigerator. One bedroom has a king sized bed and built-in desk space; the other a queen-sized bed with a large built-in desk space.
Outside a path leads down to a staircase down to the water's edge, where guests can swim or float on inner tubes as the tide rises over the flats. When you return from the shore, the outdoor shower and/or hot and cold hose make rinsing off easy. The wrap-around porches with the outdoor furniture are wonderful places to read or serve lunch, drinks and snacks during the long sun-lit evenings of a Maine summer.

Location & View
We live on a tidal cove, with a 10 –12 foot tides between high and low with between 2 and 12 feet of water about half the time — or six hours of each 12 hour tidal cycle. There is no dock, but the stairs have a nice landing where several people can sit in outdoor chairs. When the tide is all the way out, the flats are uncovered and shorebirds and wading birds begin to congregate. Flocks of laughing gulls, herring gulls, terns, fish crows, great blue herons and migrating sand pipers, plovers and yellowlegs. We have four big inner tubes and one of our favorite activities is to catch a rising tide after the flats have heated up, which warms the water coming in over the flats and launching the inner tubes to paddle around the cove like a giant bath tub. Kayaks and canoes can be rented in town....moreless
The mountains overlooking Camden frame the view to the west, offering expansive views. Great sunsets from the decks with the sun setting slowly over the darkening shadows of the mountains and cove, late into the evening....moreless

Lovely house for a family group
Lovely house for a family group
We rented this Sherman's Point house for a week in July to have a place for my immediate family, spouses and kids to meet up and spend time together. We learned quickly that finding a large house in a good location was not an easy task. But we lucked into the last available week of this house and it was a fabulous place for us. The house is as large and pretty as it looks from the pictures. The kitchen is extremely well-equipped for a rental house, including having items like oyster shuckers, lobster pots, a gas grill and more. We are a family that loves to cook and this was a house to cook in. Also, there was room for people to spread out or hang out together. The house was very clean. We were so pleased with the rental, and Camden and the surrounding areas are lovely. The owners were also very easy to deal with. I would highly recommend renting this house.

About the owner: We are lifelong residents of Camden with seven grown children and an island home across the bay where we spend summers. One of the owners has written extensively on the history and natural history of the area, including Maine's islands, while his wife, a graphic designer, did the design and layout of many of the books. These volumes are in the house library.
Why the Owner Chose Camden:
This property has been in our family since my wife was born and has been significantly expanded and upgraded during the past 10 to 15 years.
The Unique Benefits at this Estate:
There is so much to do in this area, but we especially enjoy walking on the shore, wildlife viewing, hiking in the state park, and cultural activities in town, including the Farnsworth Art Museum and Wyeth Center in Rockland, the Transportation Museum, the Maine Lighthouse Museum and Bay Chamber Concerts. There are a number of 4 and 5 star restaurants, many on the water that feature fresh local fish, shellfish (lobsters) and fresh locally grown vegetables.
