Blind Pass condo description
You will love our place! There is so much to do here. You can lie in the sun at the beach or go shelling, swimming or walking along miles of gulf shore. According to the popular travel website Shermans Travel, our beach is the number one popular secluded beach in America’s top ten! There is a variety of wildlife in the surrounding parkland and occasionally manatees appear in Clam Bayou on the property.
Not a beach person? You can relax at the large pool in the beautifully landscaped gardens, play tennis on either of the two courts, barbeque on the available grills, rent bikes to explore Captiva and Sanibel and nearby wildlife refuges.
We have three flat screen HDTVs and WiFi in our beautiful condo and a computer is available in the office conference room if needed. The bedrooms are large and airy: the master bedroom has a king sized bed, a spacious walk-in closet, large mirrored dresser and desk and bathroom with screened in tub; the guest bedroom has 2 full size beds, large mirrored dresser, desk, armoire, dressing room and bath room.
You can take boat tours, hire fishing guides, play golf at local courses, work out at the Sanibel Recreation Center or rent canoes or kayaks to explore the bayou and offshore islands. Enjoy Sanibel art galleries, especially the historic Tower gallery where Sheila’s paintings are displayed, theatres, shops, restaurants and the Historical Museum or the famous Shell Museum.
Attractions a short drive away include Historic downtown Fort Myers, the elegant shopping mecca in Naples, Six Mile Cypress Swamp, Audubon’s Corkscrew Swamp and of course the Everglades.

Two weeks in paradise...
Two weeks in paradise...
We have been coming to Sanibel for the last 3 or 4 years. We've stayed in a few other places-beachfront ones-but never used the beach directly outside our door; instead we rode or drove to Bowman's Beach. Last year, I said, only half-joking, "We need to rent there!" pointing to Blind Pass. This year, instead of spending one week on Sanibel, we decided to stay for two...and my search began. I came upon this listing, emailed the owner, and a decision was made....we were both a bit curious as to whether not having an ocean view-something we always tried to have-would really make that much of a difference. Happy to report-it wasn't. Of all the places we've stayed, this was, by far, our favorite. Besides being on Bowman's-our favorite-the condo was the largest, roomiest, most comfortable place we've had in our 4 visits. The condo has everything you could possibly need or want. It was a pleasant surprise to find that there were lots of beach chairs and extra umbrellas-which came in handy when our son decided to fly down for a few days. Had I paid better attention, I would NOT have dragged all of our beach stuff down! The kitchen was well appointed--everything from a blender, waffle iron, and baking supplies (we used those). The condo even came with "starter" necessities-toilet paper, paper towels, soap, dish detergents--which lasted nearly a week (I brought all of those things anyway). The DVD and large flat screen tvs were nice-after a day riding our bikes, or beaching it, it was nice to come back to a cool apartment to watch a movie. We grilled several times-previous accommodations did NOT have grills, which was another reason I selected this particular one. Fresh seafood from Pine Island made for some great grilled meals. One of the owners is a terrific artist, and her original artwork graces nearly every wall of the condo-and they are GREAT....there is a nice screened porch as well. The beds were really comfortable, too! Closet in master was huge! There were games, cards, and puzzles as well, in case of a rainy day-which we were incredibly lucky NOT to encounter! The pool looked wonderful, and even had a deep end that was truly deep (6'9"). We did not use it-since the beach was right THERE! Tennis & kayaking/canoes also free. The owners have made this a truly comfortable, inviting place. We are hoping to return next year (depends on a planned family reunion), however, for future trips, we will always check the availability of this condo first.

A comfortable, spacious beach condo with a great location!
we felt completely at home as soon as we walked into the door of this very comfortable, well maintained beach condo. I loved the fully stocked modern kitchen and the tropical lanai was so peaceful. The location of the condo just steps away from the secluded bowmans beach and proximity to great dining and shopping made our stay so memorable. We especially enjoyed the heated pool, the daily sunsets and our sea shell collection! This will always be a very special memorable vacation! we even missed a classic New England blizzard. Thanks Ernie and Sheila for being so accommodating and generous and for sharing your home. We can't wait for next year! Mark & chris

My husband and I stayed at the Blind Pass Condo, Sanibel Island , for our 30th anniversary. What a beautiful setting. The condo was very high class, clean, well maintained and very cozy as well. The staff and the owner were always polite, personal and quick to please. I sent a box of shells home(legal ones!) that we had gathered from the beach, so close to the condo. Our favorite place to eat was The Island Cow. If you get there before the dinner rush, around 4:00-5:00, there isn't any waiting. We found that Bailey'sGeneral Store, had everything you would need, food wise, and right next door, they provided a great variety of hardware, bait/fishing stuff and little souveneirs to purchase. Besides the perfect temperature swimming pool (great pool!), the Mrs. of the condo is quite an artist and sells her works at one of the local Art Galleries, located in Library Way, on Sanibel. A must to check out. As you know, luggage weight can be expensive! I love all shells! The smart thing to do is go to the Post Office, and buy the boxes that are $5 a box and fill stuff that way instead of paying by the pound. You'll figure it out! Would I recommend this property to folks, you bet I would. Actually, we have. Don't forget sunsreen and a smile.

A memorable vacation on Sanibel Island thanks to Ernie and Sheila!
A memorable vacation on Sanibel Island thanks to Ernie and Sheila!
This was our first time on Sanibel Island and we would like to go back next spring. Blind Pass Condos are on the quieter side of Sanibel. Ernie and Sheila's description and pictures of the property are very accurate. It was easy to contact them with questions about their rental and there were not any problems before, during, or after the rental. The second floor condo was very clean, beautifully decorated and everything was well-maintained. There is not an elevator so renters should be aware that they will need to carry suitcases and groceries up the outside stairs. Everything that we needed was in the condo, from beach umbrellas to shelling nets to a great library with a variety of books, games and puzzles. The screened in porch was the perfect getaway to read and enjoy the lush Florida vegetation. We really felt right at home and very comfortable for our week's stay. We rented bikes from Billy's Bike Rentals. Bikes are delivered to your rental. The bikes were in a rack on our arrival date with helmets, bike locks and a map of the island. Drivers on Sanibel are very cautious with bike riders. The Bailey-Mathews Shell Museum was one of our favorites. We were at the museum on a day that a local was introducing shelling to first time visitors, which we were. We got first hand lessons on the ins and outs of shelling, the tides and she showed us some of her special shells. The Ding Darling Refuge was another one of our favorities. An incredible attraction! You can drive through yourself, but we suggest taking the guided tour. Sanibel Island has a variety of restaurants in all price ranges. We enjoyed lots of great seafood. There are lots of things to do on Sanibel Island or you can just walk along the beautiful beaches. It is an easy walk to the beach from the condo. We walked there several times each day. Make a picnic lunch and pack it in one of the coolers that Ernie and Sheila have in the condo. Make sure that you take a bag with for the seashells. The seashells were definately the highlight of our vacation and we brought home many beauties! Thank you, Ernie and Sheila, for sharing your Florida home with us!

We spent a lovely week on Sanibel Island in March of 2012. The condo at Blindpass was a perfect place to stay on the more quiet end of the island. It was a short walk to a wonderful, uncrowded beach with great shelling. Ernie and Sheila's apartment was beautiful and comfortable- they thought of everything we could need. A special touch is Sheila's lovely paintings. We enjoyed watching an Osprey's nest out the living room window. It was easy to get around the island with rented bikes. We especially enjoyed the Shell Museum, a wonderful historical village, and the "Ding" Darling Nature Center. Thanks for a wonderful stay and we would gladly stay here again.

Year Purchased: 2001
About the owner: Ernie, an international exploration geologist, and Sheila, a petroleum economist and attorney had significant worldwide travel experiences when we first arrived on Sanibel-Captiva in 1981 with parents and children, but we fell in love with the area right away. The subtropical vegetation was unlike anything we had seen in North America or Europe. We were all fascinated with the large gastropod shells, the peeling gumbo limbo trees and the fallen coconuts we could mail with a letter written on a sea grape leaf! It was only half an hour before Sheila left the family on the beach and went to find a cottage or some other piece of these wonderful islands. We built first on the Captiva gulf and then moved down here for the whole year in 1986. We worked full time and both of us got very involved in community activities: Island Water Assoc., Board of Governors for CCA, Captiva Erosion Prevention District Board, Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation, Care & Rehabilitation of Wildlife, Old Schoolhouse Theater Board, BIG Arts, Mastersingers, Sanibel-Captiva Art League, Zonta and others. We renovated a place on the Captiva bayside and lived there for a few years, but moved to Dinkins Bayou on Sanibel in 1999 to take advantage of Sanibel’s great bike paths. It didn’t take us long to discover the Blind Pass Condominiums and realize that we could buy a lovely condo and do less gardening and house improvements (we spend summer months in British Columbia gardening etc.), live on a spectacular beach and bayou front property, lie by the pool, walk in nearby parkland or miles on the best white sand beach just steps from our front door. In other words, we have more time for ourselves and our other activities such as fishing. aerobics, painting, singing in the Sanibel Chorus and are even closer to the gallery, classes, BIG Arts and of course, shopping!
The Unique Benefits at this Condo:
Walking in the front door of our condo we enjoy the light and airy feeling of the bleached oak furniture and the maple cabinets in our custom made kitchen. The unique character of our place is accentuated by Sheila’s original paintings of the Normandy countryside. The off white fixtures and soft colors of our new carpeting, bedding and soft furniture add to the effect. We are so fortunate to be only about 275 yards from our secluded beach. The walk goes south over a private bridge spanning Clam Bayou and then via the private path through native vegetation on a protected gopher tortoise habitat. The property abuts a few private homes on the east and north and we enjoy the sunsets over Bowman’s Beach recreation area from our lanai on the west side when we’re not at the beach! Even though we are miles from the crowded condominium areas on Sanibel and Captiva, we can drive west on San Cap Drive to the Santiva Market near the Captiva bridge for last minute dinner party needs in about three minutes!
