For a fantastic time away from home, "it takes a village". That village is Yellow Springs, OH. Next is a lovely, relaxing, comfortable place to stay. The Village Guesthouse, of course. My husband and I spent a great week there earlier this month. We loved the Morning Glories on the back porch and all the flowers and foliage in the yard. The cats were an added bonus. Patti and Marianne were wonderful to us, providing all necessities and extras, such as bicycles to explore all the bike trails in the area. The location of the guesthouse is perfect . . . . you can walk everywhere without jumping into your car and driving for miles. We even walked to the grocery store. Such a simple thing, but it was awesome to us. We absolutely recommend staying here.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+.

Perfect location to enjoy all that Yellow Springs offers....and having bikes provided was such a plus. Many years since my husband lived in YS, but the best things about it are still intact and getting better. Our hosts were delightful - the apartment is extremely comfortable...and the hot tub another added plus. Hope to be back to stay longer....or maybe permanently.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, people with disabilities, girls getaway, romantic getaway, age 55+.

I came with my son to visit my daughter at Antioch. I was surprised to see how big and beautiful this guest house is. Patti and Marianne were both so friendly and kind to us. The house is stocked with everything you need including coffee, snacks, cereal and milk, and detergent. It is a beautiful big space that made me feel truly relaxed and on vacation. The kitchen was great and I wish we had time to cook a meal there. We spent a few hours enjoying the private hot tub. There are bikes too, but we ended up not having time to go for a ride. Totally recommend staying here. I will always come back. AlsoRecommended for: Tourists without a car, girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

The Village Guesthouse is a wonderfully comfortable, clean, well-equipped, well-stocked cottage with high-quality furniture and linens. If you need anything – open a drawer, a door or a cupboard and it’s there. It’s well laid-out and functional allowing multiple guests privacy—it has 2 sets of French doors allowing you to close off space to individual rooms. It’s quiet and serene with two decks off of the family room (one door exits to the south deck and another door exits to the north deck) where you will enjoy the privacy and beauty of pine trees and vegetation that surround the property. You wouldn’t know that you’re only a few steps away from the town conveniences (library, grocery, dining, etc.) and a few steps more to the hiking trails of beautiful Glen Helen. The Village Guesthouse also has a very private hot tub that you can relax in after a hike in the woods. Marianne and Patti are perfect hosts – very welcoming, attentive and respectful of your privacy.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, people with disabilities, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

Owner info

About the owner: I moved to Yellow Springs in 1972 as a young single mom and have lived in this wonderful little eclectic village ever since. Since living in Yellow Springs I have worked as a cook, carpenter, coordinated our community mediation program and most recently served as the Executive Director of our local affordable housing organization and Community Land Trust. I am now semi-retired. I enjoy gardening, biking, yoga, music, reading, remodeling projects and serving on nonprofit boards. My partner Patti Dallas grew up in Yellow Springs where her father was chair of the Theater Dept. at Antioch College. She moved away to go to college and has lived in British Columbia and on the West and East Coasts before moving back with her young daughter in 1996 to be closer to her aging parents. Patti is a musician specializing in music for children and seniors. She is also a videographer whose videos focus on family and community history. Patti sings and plays the guitar, banjo and flute. We enjoy sharing our love of Yellow Springs with our guests.
Why the Owner Chose Yellow Springs:
The Village Guesthouse is a small apartment attached to our house. Originally we remodeled it for Patti's parents when they were no longer able to live independently. Once Patti was no longer able to give them the care they needed, they moved to our nearby continuing care facility. We then decided to rehab the apartment as a short-term stay rental. We made that decision because Yellow Springs has become a popular destination an needed more places for visitors to stay. We enjoy meeting new people and felt we could provide a service that is enjoyable for our guests and for us.
The Unique Benefits at this Apartment:
Yellow Springs is a small progressive inclusive community. A village of about 3700, it has been shaped by Antioch College whose first president was Horace Mann. Many Antiochians have chosen to make Yellow Springs their home and have started businesses here, raised their children here and have helped create this vibrant community. Yellow Springs has a rich African-American tradition since Civil War times and has been known as a tolerant, open community. In recent years our village has become known for its many artists, artisians and galleries. In addition, there is a strong community interest in sustainability which has led to pioneering efforts in 'green building', Community Supported Agriculture (CSAs), Farmer's Markets, and alternative health care. Massage, yoga classes, fitness instruction, and Buddhist mediation are all easily available. (Contact us for scheduling appointments and classes.)
The Village Guesthouse is only a couple of blocks from Antioch College, our very social and friendly downtown, a 60+ mile bike path, and miles of hiking trips that connect Glen Helen Nature Preserve with John Bryan State Park and Clifton Gorge. There is always something to do in Yellow Springs and villagers and visitors have the pleasant task of deciding whether to go to a hear area musicians at a local coffee house, see the latest foreign or American movie at the Little Art Theater, eat at the award winning Winds Restaurant, visit an art opening, attend a play or lecture or just take a walk around the neighborhood, downtown or the Glen.
