Kodiak Home, Ocean View, Family-Friendly, 5 Minute Walk to Downtown
- Minimum stay:2 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:No

A spacious, sunny ocean view home, facing the channel. Located in a quiet neighborhood (with the ocean on one side and trees and city park on the other) our property overlooks the entrance to channel and nearby islands. Home area is 1600 sq. feet. Waking up to a morning cup of coffee or tea, while gazing out the many windows facing the ocean is a pleasure.
Just a few minute walk from downtown Kodiak, the house faces due south, with spectacular views of the ocean and nearby Woody Island and Near Island. Relax and watch the abundant wildlife of Kodiak: many eagles, sea lions, sea otters and sea lions. Our home's location is the perfect view for watching the many commercial fishing and pleasure boats coming and going. We provide a booklet to help identify the many different vessels.
The first floor has a warm, maple kitchen, our cupboards are full of pots and pans, utensils, and dishes. Local Kodiak cookbooks are supplied for a special seafood dinner, of your local catch of the day! Lacey also provides her favorite recipes from three decades of cooking while salmon fishing over the summer to a large crew (sourdough pancakes, homemade breads, sour cream coffee cake, a unique wild salmon BBQ marinade, wild beach green salads, double-crust nut cheese cake!! and more!)
The main living room and dining table are in this area. Through the french doors, are a brand-new bathroom/laundry room, and bedroom and a small sitting area with the television and dvd library. The second floor has a large bedroom with spectacular channel view, a large bathroom, and a small area for an extra futon, or inflatable bed. (There is plenty of room for more than two additional beds, especially casual sleeping for kids).

Where do I begin...We were the last minute trip planners that can make it more stressful for the renter!! From start to finish, Lacey made it easy to not only complete the home reservation, but to spend her valuable time talking to me about fun things to do while visiting. She truly cared about making sure we maximized our time there. We have 3 children ages 14, 10, and 6. The house is plenty big so we never felt stuck on top of one another and everyone had their own space. As the other review stated, the movie selection is like no other I have come across. I don't care what your interests are...there were several movies to interest you. The house is across from the boatyard, which we loved. It was fun to watch (as long as I didn't have to help)! The kids would watch movies or the boats as we cooked meals in the great kitchen that has anything you could need. A home rental may be more than a hotel room, but you will save a fortune on meals! The house is close to town, but we still were glad to have a car. We are the family that drives every road on the island! It is centrally located, so no matter where we wanted to go, we were close. This trip was a great expereince from start to finish and we would highly recommend this rental! Thank you Lacey!!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, adventure seekers.

We are not ones to usually write a review but our stay in this beautiful home was just too good to just keep a lid on it. Not only is their lovely home immaculate but couple that with the amazing view of the water and you've got a perfect spot to relax. The kitchen is stocked with utensils and cookware. The home is literally located in such a spot that you could walk to downtown within just a few minutes and enjoy all the things it has to offer. Nice coffee shops such as the Bayside Cafe and Henry's restaurant, and don't forget to visit the Kodiak museum! But if you'd rather cuddle up with a good movie, don't bother renting a movie because this placed is stocked with an enormous collection to choose from. We enjoyed the hub-bub of the boat yard. Just sitting on the deck and watching what was happening there around the boats was entertaining. I know the price per night is a lot but the comfort of this beautiful home and what it has to offer is worth every hard earned penny. The owners are such a sweet couple that make you feel as if you've known them for years and we just can't see how anyone could be disappointed in their stay here. Thanks again to Chris and Lacey for going above and beyond in making sure our stay was wonderful. We enjoyed being their first guests!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, adventure seekers, people with disabilities.
Owner response: Thank you so much for the glowing review!! It was our pleasure to have you there and it means a lot that you liked the house...had to laugh about the movie collection, we are kind of known for having a ga-zillion dvds there, here, and at the setnet sites!! You guys are welcome anytime and I would be happy to give you guys a "wild salmon fishermens' discount" !!! Good luck fishing, and keep in touch!

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1984
About the owner: We are a long-time Kodiak commercial fishing family for 35 years. They have extensive knowledge about the Kodiak Archipelago, fishing, recreational activities, bear and wildlife viewing, with many personal friends who operate those recreational, sport fishing, and wildlife viewing businesses. We can recommend our own pilots for bear viewing and sightseeing on local air charters. We have raised our children commercial fishing for wild salmon in Uganik and Viekoda Bays since 1983. Our favorite time of year is heading out to salmon fish for the three month season, living in cabins on the Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge, surrounded by deer, bears, eagles, a bounty of fresh and wild seafood. We love to beachcomb, hike, look for unusual wood, and enjoy fishing as a family. We have added kittens, Puff and Coco, to join our annual trip to our setnet sites in Uganik and Viekoda Bays. We also cherish spending free time at our cabin on ten acres, located in Village Islands, Uganik Bay. Once a homestead, we have spent winter holidays there over the years. Both Lacey and Chris have extensive community work and experience with local fisheries-related projects. Lacey is a founding member of the Kodiak Maritime Museum, and led the design of the colorful, unique interpretive sign project, located on the boardwalk & downtown harbor across from the marine businesses, coining the term 'Celebrate Our Maritime Heritage' . The signs are featured in a colorful booklet Waterfront Guide, for sale at the museum office.
Why the Owner Chose Kodiak:
Because we like seeing the boats come and go through the Channel! Fishing has been our way of life for 35 years. Kodiak is ALL about commercial fishing, the largest port in Alaska. Check out all of the activities in Kodiak--from research facilities, to busy processing plants, harbors with 1000 vessels, the largest Coast Guard Base in the US, the types of vessels that fish, the harvesting of sustainable resources--Kodiak is the community to visit. You will see fishermen hanging nets, boats in the boatyard, the hub bub in the summer getting ready to salmon fish..Our home is perfect for the summer visitor, because we are salmon fishing between late May and mid-September. We purchased the house in 1984, choosing to be near the ocean, and have completely replaced the older home, into a three story home, with a warehouse and apartment on the bottom floor, and home on the top two floors. The house is 8 miles from the Kodiak airport, five minutes from the Kodiak Ferry Dock, a front seat view of the boatyard, five minute walk to downtown Kodiak, the Kodiak Visitor Center, the Alutiiq Museum, Baranof Museum, National Fish and Wildlife Service Visitor's Center, groceries , restaurants, marine supply and outfitting businesses, the movie theater, the boat harbor, Chamber of Commerce. There is a walking path along the front of the home, which goes east toward Spruce Cape, along the water and among colorful Kodiak homes. Nearby activities are kayaking, golf, recreational fishing, several rivers and creeks with abundant salmon fishing, the Buskin River, Mill Bay creek, and out the road to Kalsin, Womens, and Middle Bays with major salmon runs. You will learn all about a profession, the traditions, the net hanging, in Kodiak...a vibrant community. While other fishing towns have disappeared, you will be treated to a constant opportunity for photos. Don't forget to see the Waterfront Interpretive Signs on the downtown harbor boardwalk..14 of them, full color!
The Unique Benefits at this House:
You will be treated to a learning experience in a bustling port, with plenty of photo opportunities. Guests receive a complimentary 'Celebrate our Maritime Heritage: Waterfront Guide' to aid in watching the fishing vessels pass by, the view of Near and Woody Island, access to the ocean is about 200 feet away, the home is located in a tiny, quiet neighborhood, surrounded by spruce trees, rose bushes, and raspberries!
For kids, a city park is a five minute walk, past the grassy area in the cove, to St. Herman's St.
