The subway is only 2 & 1/2 blocks away but you probably will not need it. You can walk or take a short ride on one of the nearby bus routes.
Home is a special private haven right in the midst of Manhattan. This is a real and upscale neighborhood where you will see real New Yorkers and how they really live, eat where they eat (and not pay tourist prices for so so food). The tourist areas are fun and a bit Disneyesque.
After you have a fast paced and fun filled day, come home to relax.....your Center City Apartment is just around the corner from the hustle and bustle of the big city.
Sit under the mature trees in your private walled garden and have a cup of tea or a glass of win while you listen to the birds singing in the trees.
This special place is on a shady tree lined residential block at East 30th Street and Park Avenue with easy access to just about all you want to see and do. Take an easy walk to the Empire State Building (5 1/2 blocks), Macy's (7 1/2 blocks), Broadway theaters (about 15 blocks), Gramercy Park, the Farmer's Market at Union Square, The Village and the United Nations.
Soho is a quick ride south on the #6 subway which is just 2 1/2 blocks away. Or you can head north on the #6 to Museum Mile and the Metropolitan Museum. When you don't feel like walking, ride to Bloomingdale's with a stop right under the store. Madison Avenue # 1, #3 and #5 bus lines are 1 & 1/2 away and run north. The Lexington Avenue #101 bus line is on the corner 1/2 block away and runs south. Of course this being New York, you can always hop into a taxi or call car service.
Inside your apartment you'll find the romance and charm of Old New York with exposed brick walls, wide plank floors, a fireplace and original oil paintings. The spacious living room offers you 2 matching sofas in classic muted colors. One opens into a comfortable queen size bed that sleeps two. A cushioned single Bahama bed is convenient for another guest.
A quaint 150 year old opaque glass wall separates the living room and bedroom. Pamper yourself with an excellent night's sleep and wake up refreshed in the queen size bed with quality linens,a fluffy feather duvet and lots of extra pillows. There's plenty of room for all of your clothes and shopping sprees in a wall of custom fitted closets. The en suite tiled bathroom has a small tub with shower and a built-in vanity for the sink and wrap-around mirrors.
Have a bite to eat or a satisfying drink when ever you feel like it in your separate and full eat-in kitchen with large double door refrigerator/freezer with automatic ice maker, full stove with oven and full size dishwasher. The kitchen is nicely equipped with microwave, coffee pot, pots and pans, dishes, glassware and flatware.
The dining area with cushioned window seat overlooks the peaceful garden. If you don't feel like cooking, just order in from the many nearby restaurants or have the grocery stores deliver.
An adjacent 2-room 1/2 bath duplex suite is available for large families. The small downstairs room is furnished as an office/library and has an over sized double sofa bed. Private interior stairs lead to a large upstairs bedroom with 2 twin size beds. A 1/2 bath is off of this room.
This is a no smoking apartment for your comfort. Smoking in the garden is always okay.
There are 5 rather shallow steps into the building, making it unsuitable for children under 10 and guests who might have a problem with stairs.
The apartment is one of three units in a private 4 story townhouse. It is on the garden floor in the back and is exceptionally quiet, clean, safe and secure. You'll find many extra modern details such as high hat lights in all of the rooms, a security buzzer to open the front doors and quality windows and doors.
It is said that the famous dancer Isadora Duncan once lived here. We haven't been able to confirm this but like to believe that it is true. We hope that you will spend some time here, too.
Note: If our apartment is booked, please ask us about our friends' apartments. We will be happy to check for you.

It give suggestions about where to eat in all price ranges, museums, attractions, grocery shopping, luxury shopping, discount shopping, how to take the bus and subway, how to find your way around the city and lots more. I hope that I can inspire you to love NYC as as much as I do.

This apartment is perfect for any family visiting NYC. Quiet and convenient - only 2 blocks to the 6 train! Walk to Empire State Building and Flatiron Building. So quiet we could sleep past noon! Marea, the hostess is gracious and better than a local tour guide. She gives the information that only a resident really knows: restaurants, bargain shopping, how to save on broadway shows. Neat, tidy, and intriguing building in a great section of Manhattan. The private courtyard takes you into a secret world!

This is our second stay at Marea's, the first in 2006 for a family wedding and this time returning because we couldn't wait to get back! Thank you Marea for your warm hospitality and very welcome, delicious New York wine - a lovely way to start our holiday. The accommodation is great, a real home from home, being perfect for our party of 6 adults and one baby. Each day started with breakfast in the lovely courtyard garden to plan our day. It was a pleasure from beginning to end. Thank you and we hope to be back again.

My partner and I along with 2 married friends stayed in Marea's lovely apartment for 7 days. The location was perfect as it is central to most attractions and close to the subway. The apartment itself is extremely quiet at night (a bonus in such a noisy city) and we really enjoyed the lovely courtyard setting. Marea was the perfect hostess and was extremely organized and helpful with her planning and preparation. l would thoroughly recommend this rental to other travellers.

Guest Review from mary- Jun 13, 2011 "Thank you!" Dear Marea, We just wanted to write you a note of thanks for sharing your beautiful condo with us, and for all the amenities you supplied for us. It was such a perfect "anchor" point for all our travels during the week: convenient to the subway, Times Square, the market, restaurants, and to all the locations that were in our itinerary for the "white collar" convention. We all felt completely at home and would even refer to the condo as "home" after we were out all day. We had a wonderful time, and feel that our accommodations were a big part of making everything perfect. So, a heartfelt thanks from all of us. Fondly, Mary.

Marea greeted us on arrival, and that was the last time we saw her (she wasn't particularly well, but couldn't be contacted even by phone - it was usually turned off.) There were four of us having a reunion in NY, (from NZ, England and the US) and even tho' location was great, not a lot else was. The apartment goes down from the street (ie a basement), so dark all the time. The yard was dirty and not conducive to sitting outside. The fridge didn't work so all the food we bought the first weekend had to be thrown away (owners had gone away for the weekend). Of the 3 TVs, only one worked - on one station - and this was during the Tennis Open in NY! There were some great restaurants nearby which we enjoyed. For the price we paid which was a lot even though two of the friends were only there for half the time (ie 12 days at full price for four) we could have easily stayed at a hotel. The property was reasonably clean, but I would not recommend this property to anyone to stay in, despite the location. We were all rather disappointed having looked forward to it for so long, and the friend from England wanted to move out.
Owner response: I take guests’ suggestions very seriously & I take prompt action when there is something I can do better. However, I am flabbergasted that you think the apartment is in the basement. Please look at the photos to be sure you have the correct apartment. You rented the entire 1st floor and ½ of the 2nd floor of the building. There is a full basement under the apartment. Perhaps it was the shade trees that were not to your liking. Both the street in front of the house & your garden have mature trees that provide lovely shade in summer. They keep the air about 10 degrees cooler than most of the “cement city” & are much appreciated by most people. Everybody has different tastes. It is true that NYC is not the cleanest city in the world & outdoor areas don’t stay clean without maintenance. Your private garden was thoroughly cleaned the day you arrived as was your apartment. You chose not to pay for the interim service option or to maintain it yourselves. The common area in front of the building is serviced 3 times a week. The HDTVs work fine. It is simply a matter of not changing cable setting. I showed you on arrival plus a 2nd time. Chris went to your apartment several times to show you & the Instructions are in the Information book. I am sorry that you could not enjoy the over 500 channels in the Premium Package. Despite our best efforts to keep everything in top conditions, occasionally things break down. I apologize again for the problem with the refrigerator door. Remember back: we had the repairman there the next day. He said that someone was hanging on the door and pulled it off kilter. You had my email, my cell phone, the housekeeper’s cell phone & the superintendent’s cell phone. Although I cannot be at the building everyday 24/7, someone is there 6 days a week & someone is always on call. Guests are given complete privacy unless they let me know otherwise. Could it be that the real problem was that the apartment is a self catering apartment and not a hotel with a concierge and 24 hour service? And I am sorry that your friend who came late because her daughter was having a baby paid for some days that she did not use. Please remember I did offer for you to stay in the apartment alone at a lower price, but you insisted that you wanted the extra rooms for the snorers in your group. I am truly sorry that I could not make your vacation perfect for you.

Comments: Almost a year ago we spent a wonderful two weeks in Mareas apartment. We were mixed a group of ten people and living together worked out well. Marea took good care of us and gave us some good advice on where to eat or buy food or on what places to see and where to go. She is a wonderful host and whenever we had a questions she was there for us. The apartment is very cozy and especially the garden is perfect, especially in a city like N.Y. We all had a great time in a great home away from home. Thank you Marea.
