Superb in every way
Superb in every way
We have stayed at many VRBO properties over the years and this villa was clearly the best. The owner was fantastic and made the stay all the more enjoyable. We loved the pool, the beautiful property, the peaceful yet invigorating setting, and the four- legged residents too. We went to the National Aquarium and Inner Harbor one day and DC, the next, and the drive was no problem. We hope to come back and enjoy the hiking trails and mountain biking. Thanks for such a wonderful experience!

After several stressful weeks on the job, this Adamstown villa was absolutely perfect for my husband and me. We have rented several times from the vrbo site and have never been treated more graciously. We arrived later than planned due to traffic and the owner was ready to help us settle in and even helped carry our luggage to the villa. She made sure we had everything we needed and even offered to loan anything we may have forgotten or didn't find in stock in the rental. The villa was just as nice as presented on the vrbo site. We only wish it was not rented for the entire year to follow so we could return soon! Thank you so much!

This place it beautiful. The owner is really nice and the property is secluded yet close to many attractions. The house is impeccable. The best part of our stay was the pool, you are literally swimming in the mountains. Our dog loved the stay as well and romped around all day long (very safe for a dog since no house, road is near). The only reason I would give it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the owner's house is a few feet away from the rental. As secluded as this property is, you do have your neighbors (landlord) right there. As nice and respectful of our privacy as she was, it took me some time to get used to it-mostly because I wasn't expecting it (I knew they would be on the same property but not literally next to each other). Other than that though I would definitely recommend this oasis!!!!

My husband and I stayed the week following the 4th. The first thing I can say is that the views from all rooms of this villa are superb. We witnessed a lightning storm our last evening there and it was beautiful. The villa and pool are immaculate. All towels, linens and shampoo, conditioner and lotion are provided. This surprised me since most cottages we rent do not provide this- it was more like staying at a 4 star resort. Lysia was a wonderful hostess and gave us recommendations for dinner. We ate at the Black Hog as well as at Mangia e Bevi (a fabulous Italian place). Both of which are a short drive into Urbana. We spent 3 days in DC. It is about a 35 minute drive to the Shady Grove station where you can catch the train into the city. The train ride is about another 35 minutes depending on where you get off once in DC. Frederick has a cute downtown area full of shops and restaurants. We also went to Gettysburg one day and that was also an easy drive. We loved our stay and hope to come back again someday.

Great place for an escape
Great place for an escape
Initially we felt like this was a way off the beaten path but in reality only 10 minutes from banks, restaurants, grocery, etc. This vacation home was beautiful. A pool day everyday in the well kept, sparkling oasis. Cooking was a breeze in the efficient kitchen. The bed was a comfy luxury and the baths clean and bright. We so enjoyed our month at this home and so did our family, as they were able to visit for cook outs and some pool time. The owner was so caring and attentive but never hovering...just there if needed. We will stay again and do look forward to this home away from home.

Beautiful villa in the middle of nowhere!
Beautiful villa in the middle of nowhere!
I'm not gonna lie, driving up to this place felt like the opening scene to every horror movie iv ever seen. But WOW was it worth the slightly off the beaten path trip. I stayed here last week for a wedding at a friends house nearby, so i was pretty familiar with every other hotel/rental in the area, and this BY FAR was the best. All my friends were extremely jealous of my accomodations. As you can see from the pictures the home/property are gorgeous, especially if your into that modern look (which i am). The place was soo beautiful we decided to have all the groomsmen use it as our dressing area to barbeque, hang out by the pool (which was unfortunately closed, but beautiful non the less) and take pictures before heading out to the venue. The owner was EXTREMELY cool with us having a bunch of pple over before the wedding, and some of my friends even came back the next day to go hiking in the MANY scenic trails around the property. Great property, very accommodating owner, and, compared to what most of my friends ended up paying for shared space, AMAZING value.

Review #1... The Pros: 1. Location-- there couldn't be a more secluded, tranquil or isolated area to stay at the foot of Sugarloaf than here... It is literally at the end of the long, winding and scenic road, which is in itself (at least at this time of year) worth just driving up to and turning around and driving back. 2. Windows galore-- If you're a fan of sunshine and starlight, this is the place to be... and if you're lucky enough to experience the spectacular lightning display of a late-night thunderstorm, then sit back and enjoy the show in the pitch black darkness. 3. Fireplace/fold-out couch-- Hopeless romantic?... Then book a stay here. The downstairs is exclusively private, modern and contemporary (as is the entire villa) and of course riddled with windows. But the fireplace is the keeper. Natural wood and glass doors with a fan to circulate the cozy heat, all while cuddled up under a blanket on the white leather convertible sofa-bed. 4. Range top—“Induction” is the term used to describe this revolutionary and sleek, flat range top stove that goes from 0*-212*F in under 60 seconds. Very nice to have when you’ve been on your feet all day in DC and you simply want come back to your home-away-from-home and sip on a chai latte or hot cider… and oh yeah, curl up beside that glowing fire.

So we just got back from our trip and I had to write in to recommend this property. I was a little nervous at first because of the one negative review on the site, but because it had some positive reviews and we had already booked our flights, we took the chance. I flew in with my husband for a weekend getaway. Being from South Carolina I was a little unsure about the location but it was perfect. We didn’t end up going to Baltimore but it is apparently close. We did spend a few days in DC though, and it is about a 45 minute drive. The house is actually in Adamstown where you have tons of outdoor activities to do to keep you busy. The house itself is amazing. Totally open, uncluttered, and zen-like. The whole house has beautiful floor to ceiling windows. It was amazing to wake up in the morning and have the view of the mountain right in front of me while I drank my coffee. I know the bad review mentioned a lack of privacy but I don’t really understand that point of view. The bedroom is downstairs and has blinds so it is completely protected. It is a sort of guest house? Although it is larger than any guest house I have been in. So yes, the owner’s home is nearby. But I never saw her except for when she greeted us upon arrival. And as far as the owner went, she was awesome. She gave us a ton of tips and ideas for things to do and went out of her way to make us comfortable. We absolutely loved our stay. I would recommend this house to anyone and everyone and hope I get a chance to go back soon!

This mountain villa was absolutely wonderful. I traveled to this location for a peaceful weekend to get away from the city, and could not have been more pleased. The owner was very attentive and had every little detail and accommodation perfected before my arrival. The scenery and atmosphere is aesthetic and rejuvenating. The villa itself is spacious, scenic, and very comfortable. I recommend this get-away without hesitation and plan to return!

My family and I stayed here back in April of this year..We were really excited to come to the D.C. area and traveled a long way to come. Apparentley this house( which by the way is a pool house and the main house it right next to it) sleeps 2 but when I came to this site it didn't say anything about how many it slept, just that it had one bed. So I had at one point asked if we could bring air mattresses and that was fine. Well we arrived and the rental agreement said that only 4 max could stay. Well we had 4 adults 2 kids, didn't think it was a big deal since the house was large and we were just going to sleep on air mattresses and be gone most of every day sightseeing. Um no...at 1 in the morning after emailing the owner we were told that 2 adults had to leave immediently. I was told I was a liar and blindsided her...ok...Well we talked her into letting us all stay until the morning since um it was in the middle of the night, in the middle of nowhere, on top of a mountain. She was yelling and extremely rude! So needless to say, didn't get much sleep that night and had to pay to go somewhere else for the week. We got half the money back but whatever, still put a dent in the budget. The house is ugly, with no decorations. Not to mention glass windows everywhere, so no privacy with the main house and owners with their glass windows right there! If I had known the owner would have been right next door, I would have definitely not stayed there in the first place, so I'm not the only blindsider here since that is so not obvious. We are from the south and not used to such unhospitality. Makes me proud of being from the south because no one I know would treat people like that. Oh and the septic tank can't handle much apparently, that's why more that 2 people can't stay which is ridiculous...the septic tank police come out and see if more people stay I guess. Anyway, if you stay here be very clear of how many people are staying because you will get kicked out in the middle of the night!! I'm not one to rant and complain very often but this was a horrible expericence that thankfully didn't ruin the whole trip.

Owner response: Shannon, I am sorry you misunderstood the contract. It clearly stated that there were two adults and two children for the week. When you called me at 12:15 PM and told me that there would be four extra adults I told you I would refund your money and you must find other accomodations for the extra people by the next day. The villa is not a group rental. I refunded your money promptly.
