GREAT VACATION HOME

Guest: Cindy (Pennsylvania)
Date of Stay: 06/19/11 Review Submitted: 07/31/11

This cabin was a great way to start our Colorado vacation. The first night (June 19th) we had a storm overnight and woke up to snow...it was wonderful. Melted by 10am but the jack rabbit and coyote we saw loved playing in it. Over the next two days we saw a bear, elk, and a bull moose from the deck. The house was beautiful and clean. It has everything you would ever need. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would stay here again !

Great home/Great loction

We really loved our stay here in Fairplay. This house was immaculately clean, well maintained and was extremely well furnished (kitchen, kid stuff, entertainment, etc) . This is a great place to stay if you don't want to be around the tourist crowds and enjoy outdoor activities. All of the locals we talked to in Fairplay and Alma were wonderful and fun. I grew up in CO and finding and this place/location is a real gem for being away and still within reach of the crowds if you want. Colorado has great access to National Forest land and you can take advantage of a lot of it from here.

Had a great time at your home this past weekend. View was beautiful. Everything you could want or need was there. Right down to the dog food and water dishes! The kids enjoyed the movies and ping pong table, and we enjoyed the hot tub and much shorter drive to Breckenridge! We recommend this property to anyone looking for a relaxing mountain getaway!

My daughter rented this place for Christmas 2010 for us. Party of four all enjoyed the hot tub, nice meals cooked in the large, convenient, equipped kitchen. Much was provided for visitors. Son, daughter and daughter-in-law had so much fun on the pin ball machine. We will be back, without a doubt.

Wonderful location!

We have a family of 4 and were joined by our in-laws (plus a couple dogs!). We couldn't have asked for a more enjoyable time. The views were spectacular; it makes us realize what a beautiful state we live in! Included in the view are elk, deer, antelope, coyotes, etc, etc!!! Saw no bears this time around--oh well. Excellent access to great hiking and ATV trails. Scott and Sandy make sure that one feels at home their mountain retreat in Warm Springs! We are certain to come back!

A great vacation!

Guest: Marge (Cedar Park, TX)
Date of Stay: 07/20/10 Review Submitted: 08/02/10

We had an excellent time at this cabin--4 adults and two boys. We didn't make use of the many movies which were available; in fact, we never turned on a TV or radio, just enjoyed the time together exploring the area and playing games after our dinners in the cabin. The kitchen was well-stocked with basics and the Safeway store in Fairplay provided the basics for our meals together. The listing showed it correctly, everything was clean and tidy, and we felt great about our first time using HomeAway.com. Having the walk-out basement was a bonus, as the boys could be enjoying the ping pong table while we adults "worked" at our card tournament. Mountain hikes, horseback riding, whitewater rafting, going up the gondola at Breckenridge--much fun in the area. And the boys certainly enjoyed getting "up close and personal" with the llamas at the Fairplay Burro Days. Highly recommended.

What a pleasant surprise, Your home exceded all of our expectations. A great view, & a great house with everything we needed. We hope to enjoy your home again, soon. The kids enjoyed the tv in all the bedrooms & the selection of movies & vidieo games. We had our 1 yr old with us & the gates & crib were a surprise. We won't have to bring them next time. Thank you for a smooth transaction & the prompt return of our deposit. Best regards, Mike & Diane Backous

Scott/Sandy, We truly enjoyed our weekend in the high country! The house is very nice and very peaceful and quiet. Just what we were looking for in relaxing getaway. We were amazed at all the things that had been thought from the well stocked kitchen to the fleece throws to take the chill off of the enjoyable mountain air. We will definitely be back! Thanks, Jeff & Karyn

Scott and Sandy, We are not only former owners of a cabin rent business, but we have rented many, many cabins over the years, as we love to travel. Southern Comfort was one of the most beautiful places we have rented. It was immaculately clean, and wonderfully furnished and equipped. Since we find eating in so much more relaxing than eating out, a well equipped kitchen is very important to us, and your cabin's kitchen lacked for nothing. The view from the cabin is awesome: we had a whole morning of snow (something we do not see often in Georgia) and the aspens were gorgeous. You have made Southern Comfort the perfect place to build perfect memories. We will never forget the great time we had there, and if we ever go back to Fairplay, we know exactly where we want to stay. Thank you for the effort you have put into providing your guests with the perfect accommodation!

What a great place! All the arrangements were cordially handled, and we found the home clean, cozy, inviting, and comfortable - a wonderful get away for friends. The kitchen was well-equipped, and if the weather refused to cooperate, there was plenty to do indoors. We enjoyed visiting South Park City in Fairplay and exploring the surrounding area. Thanks for making us feel so welcome.

We had a great trip and look forward to returning to Southern Comfort. The house is very comfortable and well-equipped. And of course -- location, location, location. The views across South Park and up at the starry skies were tremendous. We fished the South Platte and the Warm Springs ponds, rafted Brown's Canyon, did some jeep trails through the passes and to Kite Lake and went horseback riding in the Collegiate Peaks. We are sorry we missed Burro Days! My wife and I may be interested in returning in October for our anniversary. We were planning on the beach, but the hurricane season is not inspiring us to go south this fall. We'll check availability on the website and let you know . Thanks!

The property and cabin are great! However, when I stayed here two years ago, the people managing the place - Peace of Mind Cabins in Fairplay, were horrible! First off they weren't there for our 3pm check in time and we didn't get in the place until after 10pm, then when we arived the hot water was off and the hot tub was nailed shut and the basement was under construction. They were not available to help us in these matters so we were on our own to light the hot water heater and furnace and get the hot tub going, not impossible but completely unnecessary when you expect your accomodations to be in order. Furthermore, they failed to offer us any compensation. If it were not for the horrible management, it would have been a great vacation. So make sure you're dealing with honest people before you pay a bundle to stay here.

Owner response:WE HAVE CONTACTED THIS PERSON ABOUT THESE COMMENTS AND THEY AGREED TO RETRACT THEM. SINCE THEY HAVE NOT WE WOULD LIKE TO RESPOND. TRUE, WE'RE SURE THEY HAD A BAD EXPERIENCE DUE TO THE MANAGEMENT COMPANY "PEACE OF MIND". THIS COMPANY NOT ONLY LET US DOWN, THEY CREATED A BAD SITUATION FOR OUR GUESTS. WE HAD THEM MANAGE FOR A PERIOD OF 6 MONTHS BEFORE THEY LEFT THE AREA IN MAY '04. WE HAVE SINCE MANAGED FOR OURSELVES AND HAVE HAD GOOD EXPERIENCES WITH OVER 70 GUESTS. SCOTT & SANDY PENNELL WE RECEIVED THIS EMAIL FROM THE DISGRUNTLED PARTY. -----Original Message----- From: Diane Driscoll [mailto:dd3lamar.colostate.edu] Sent: Wednesday, March 22, 2006 1:07 PM To: Scott Pennell Subject: RE: FAIRPLAY RENTAL- OUR APPOLOGIES Hello Mr. and Mrs. Pennell, Thanks for the appologies and offer! Sorry to hear that you got stuck in a bad situation with those people, they were not very professional and it seems they were shady folks. It is, however, great to hear that you guys are doing a much better job. I will go ahead and remove my "negative" comment from the website so that there are no repercussions for you there. We would love to stay at the place again, I ran across the cabin while looking for a place to stay this summer. Once we get some dates together I will contact you guys and see if the place is available. Take care and thanks again, Diane

Scott and Sandy, Thanks for sharing your cabin with us. We had a great time! The cabin is beautiful and had everything we could imagine needing. Being there while the aspens changed was terrific. We'd wake up in the morning and look out on a sea of gold. Add that to the resident population of antelope at the enterance, having the National Forest as a backyard, the deer and occasional elk, good fishing, hiking, and biking and it was pretty much a perfect trip! Thanks for everything! Maureen and Marshall

...The ski rental place there in Fairplay treated us really well. It's a good idea to call ahead to reserve equipment in March though (which we did). Don't count on any resorts having any available rentals - I heard Breck was out when we were there. The hotel bar/restaurant in town has a great ribeye and the service was exceptional. Although alcohol is pretty low on the priority list, only buy beer at a liquor store as the rest is the 3.2 variety and tastes a little funny if your not used to it. Nova Guides just north of Leadville is a good place to rent snowmobiles (they have a web site with details). It's the only place we found that will let a 14 year old drive his own sled. They didn't check ID (he was a few months shy) so we were able to pass him off as a little older. They have some good trails but a 1/2 day is probably enough considering it's pretty expensive. The guided tours are an option but not necessary even for first timers. Give yourself two hours to get there (going 70W) and the Alma cutoff is NOT an option, so don't go by MapQuest. The lifts at Breckenridge close at 4:00, so start early. The six person lift at the base of peak 9 is a good place for beginners but is very crowded making it a little dangerous. We found that lift 5 and CO Super lift on peak 8 has a lot more room, is longer, and the higher elevation makes for better snow and better views. It offers access to more difficult runs as well as the easy "Springmeier" trail so it has something to offer everyone. If I think of anything else, I'll let you know. Thanks again for a wonderful place to stay. It was warm and wonderful - it felt like home. Sean & Kim 04/01/05

Hi Scott and Sandy, We have arrived back in England safe and sound after our fabulous stay in you beautiful home. WE LOVED IT!!! Both Jennifer and I were completely at ease staying at Southern Comfort and must compliment you on the way that you set your home up - after being involved in property management in Florida for almost 2 years we appreciate the super standards that you have so much more. The ample supplies that you leave for people such as us to use is fantastic - we left the Gin and Tonic just in case the cleaning proved a little tiring!!! Mr & Mrs Allan Dunphy 05/24/05

It was very nice, probably the best accomodations we have had in our 16 years of vacationing in Colorado. The area and the views were great.Gary Spellman07/20/04

This is a great property, one of the best we've stayed at in all of our many VRBO experiences. The owners were very helpful, easy to deal with on all issues and sent our deposit check back very quickly. They gave us tips on area restaurants, things to see and do, even suggestions on becoming property owners ourselves. They were by far the easiest and friendliest people we have ever dealt with on any rental property. We appreciate all their e-mails and time they spent dealing with us on our initial rental with them. We found the town of Fairplay to be exceptionally friendly. Many people visited with us, told us about other things to see and do, as well as providing us with some history of the area. This was another very enjoyable aspect of our visit. The property was also very clean, cleaner than most quality hotels. The setting was very quiet and measured up to and above their listing description. The property was also easy to find, the directions were very clear and we saw a huge herd of elk upon arrival, which made it even better. We would highly recommend this property to anyone wanting a chance to get away for a relaxing time. The entire experience was first class without a doubt. We will indeed be repeat customers at this property.
