  We were a party of five (2 adults and three children 12y, 15y and 17y) and rented this appartment because of the beautiful pictures of the ocean in the internet. We were looking for a place to relax a little bit after two weeks of touring the national parks in Utah and wanted to explore from there a little bit the LA area. It was clear from the description of the house that we would rent a house where the owners usually live in and that they live there with dogs - so we cannot comprehend the bad review given below. We found everything as it was stated in the internet. The atmosphere in a property where from nearly every place you can see and hear the ocean cannot be reflected in an internet description and we enjoyed this particular aspect during our stay a lot. The owners were not present at our arrivel, but they made sure that we were expected and we had a good exchange with each other via e-mail all the time. With that respect the WiFi was very valuable especially for our kids communicating all the time. As we love to be outside, we made use of the barbecue a lot and found some tables in the garage that we arranged for dining under open air with impressive views on the ocean and the sun sets. At the last day we met Lesley and Bob in person, learnt them as very kind and warm people and found it a pity that we did not have more time to chat to each other. We would definetively recommend the property to our friends and relatives and would also rent this property out again, if we should have the fortune to come to this area again.

  For one week my husband and our pooch were able to enjoy this serene paradise. The views are stunning. Lesley and Bob make this home a more than comfortable retreat with special touches like fresh flowers from the lovely gardens. The cook's kitchen was fully equipped and a joy to work in; having fresh vegetables from the garden enhanced the experience. The back yard is quiet with unbelievable views and a great spot to enjoy a glass of wine. As first-timers to this area, we found downtown San Clemente (a short drive from the house) charming with many locally-owned restaurants and shops to choose from.

  It pains me to write this review, as I've never given a negative review on VRBO. The view at this home is absolutely beautiful and is probably the best I've had on any vacation; however, any positivity about the property ends there. As "accommodating" as the owners are as other reviews have said, we felt an overwhelming presence before we arrived. The primary issue is that the owners live at the home when renters are not present. This was our first time renting under this arrangement and it will be the last. This may work for some owners, but not for these. They are very nice people, but should not be renting out their primary residence. She is extremely concerned about their possessions, which I understand, but you shouldn't be renting out a home with "thousands" of dollars worth of antiques you are worried may be broken. Upon arriving we were told the thermostat was set on 68 degrees, and we were NOT to touch it. We were out another day and I received a call from them informing me that it was the day for their exterminator to come so unless we were home, they were coming that morning - this is not acceptable. The next day I received a call about a package arrival and directions on how to handle it. Everyone joked about what the next day would bring and what "excuse" the owners would have to contact us and/or show up! Well, the next day I got a call about unplugging the phone. You pay a very high cleaning fee, yet it was the dirtiest place anyone in our group has ever stayed. We witnessed the cleaning crew coming in on our way out, so we believe we got the tail end of the owners' several week stay and their idea of a clean home. The kitchen and all dishes were so filthy we bought paper plates and never ate anything but breakfast at the house. The coffee pot (a Kurig), did not come with the special cups so we had to buy coffee out. That was great, because the second day there were roaches in the pot. We rented a home because of the convenience of cooking our own meals, which we could not do. The owners also need to make it clear their two dogs live in the home (not told to us) - it smells strongly of pet odors. Anyone with severe dog allergies would not be able to stay here. Two weeks before flying into Cali., I received an e-mail telling me to bring my own beach towels because they don't go to the beach and to bring my own pillows because they "take the good ones" with them. Just be fully informed when booking. Sorry to give the only bad review.

  Owner response: We are truly saddened to see this less than stellar review. We try hard and make every effort to see that the guests enjoy a memorable experience and have everything they need. Clearly we fell short. We found the guests to be nice people and certainly their comments relative to the coffee supplies and the beach towels is fair criticism. However, have you ever met someone that no matter what you said or did it was received in the most negative way possible? In reading this review, as senior citizens/grandparents, we were surprised to read that the words WE HOPE YOU ENJOY OUR BEAUTIFUL WEATHER: THE THERMOSTAT IS LOCATED ON THIS WALL, CURRENTLY SET AT 68 could be interpreted as antagonistic. To the extent that we participated in that conversation, we truly apologize. To address the other issues, we want to be clear, we have never asked a guest not to touch the thermostat; we want our guests to be as comfortable as possible. We have purchased beach towels and a new coffee pot. Our home is on a bluff just above the ocean. There is sandy soil and a garden from which we encourage guest to pick vegetables. We have a pest control service that comes monthly to spray the exterior only of the home and a gardening service .We alert our guests when this happens so they are not surprised. No guest is ever required to be home or in any way interact with these service people. Every home in this area utilizes these same services. We want our guests to treat our home as if it was theirs and we would never do anything to minimize their enjoyment. We advertise our antiques on VRBO and love to tell their stories. We apologize if the history was intimidating. Our home is professionally cleaned, cupboards inside and out. The day these guests arrived, the cleaners left at 11:30am. The guests arrived at 7:30pm..And since they were arriving in the evening, though we did not know their food preference, we put food in the refrigerator for breakfast. Our home is open to guests who have pets as well as children. Clearly, we miscommunicated the pillow issue. We have lots of pillows, and we e-mailed that before they came. We apologized then and we will here again Days before their arrival, our guest called to ask if we had a hair dryer. We thought we did; we did not, so we bought one All of this said, we are very sorry this guest was dissatisfied with her experience. VRBO has been a good for us and as a result we have met many lovely travelers and hope they will return soon.

• Spectacular Views...

  My wife and 3 kids truly enjoyed our stay at this highly functional paradise. Incredible views from 100 foot high cliffs, overlooking the PCH and out to the Pacific where we watched dolphins and kite surfers. The backyard is award-winning quality... gorgeous plantings and even a vegtable garden from which we were allowed to pluck a few ripened offerings. Beaches, shops and restaurants are all within a 5-10 minute drive. The owners are extremely friendly and easy to work with. Thanks again Lesley and Bob!

  7 serene captivating days hearing the subtle ocean waves which lured us to the most pleasant ocean views to the pelicans flying there course above the bluff, the soothing ocean breeze which pushed sail boats to course and to think we just arrived! This is our escape. If desired the beach is just 5 minutes away stores / resturants / shopping all close at hand. For us the bounty at hand was the rest in paridise. In our thoughts and hearts paridise will remain. Thank you for entrusing us with the care of your home you both are so gracious to us.

  We stayed here for 5 days with our little yorkie, this house is absolutely gorgeous! it has everything you need to make your stay very comfortable. The backyard was a great place to relax and watch the ocean with breathtaking views. The house is a very short drive to the beach, grocery stores and restaurants. The owners of the home are kind, wonderful people! Thank you for opening your home up to us we will defiantly be back!

  Our family of 4 spent 5 days at this house this Spring. We had a wonderful vacation, thanks in large part to the hospitality of these owners. They are warm, welcoming and friendly and helped make our stay very comfortable. The house is on a nice, safe street in a great location. The view of the ocean is spectacular! I would definitely recommend this rental.

  "From the warm welcome,with breakfast in the fridge, just in case, to personally taking us through the house, to fresh lemons, home grown lettuce and flowers, to taking care of anything we needed while we were here in your spectacular and inviting home - it was truly an unforgettable, magical experience for us!
