I spent four nights in this apartment and was quite pleased. It's located on Defensa in a perfect location for a weekend stay. The courtyard is perfect for morning coffee and reading and there is little noise from the neigbors. The bed is extremely comfortable and the shower and hot tub/jacuzzi are great for washing off after a full day of walking around Buenos Aires. The kitchen is perfect for making meals for a few people. DirecTV is available and the music channels are nice to have on if you're reading, cooking or relaxing. This location is perfect and secure. It's great for the weekend markets in San Telmo and there are tons of restaurants, cafes, bars and shops around. It's an easy location to get to other parts of the city and is about a 15 minute walk to Plaza de Mayo and Casa Rosa. I will return to BA one day and if I'm going with four or less people (two couples) I would definitely consider this as an affordable, wonderfully located housing option for a long weekend or a week stay.Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, tourists without a car.

Why the Owner Chose San Telmo:
Of all the Buenos aeries suburbs, San Telmo is the most unique. Compared to Recoleta or Palermo which are no different from high rises in other international destinations, San Telmo provides me with a feeling of the 'real' Argentina. San Telmo ('Saint Pedro González Telmo') is the oldest barrio (neighborhood) of Buenos Aires. It is a well-preserved area of the Argentine metropolis and is characterized by its colonial buildings. Cafes, tango parlors and antique shops line the cobblestone streets, which are often filled with artists and dancers. The apartment is very close to Plaza Dorrego, located at the intersection of Humberto Primero and Defensa streets. Along with La Boca, Florida Street, and others, Plaza Dorrego is one of the main tourist attractions of Buenos Aires. It is also close to the official executive mansion of Argentina, the 'Pink house' or Casa Rosada, made famous by movies on Eva Peron as well as other local attractions including within walking distance, the nouveau suburb of Puerto Madero with its waterfront restaurants.
The Unique Benefits at this Apartment:
The apartment is located in an colonial building but after entering from the bustling Defensa street and Dorrego plaza nearby, through the building's locked frontdoor and antiquated passage , an extremely quiet and private, modern 'clean' space awaits. The most unique benefit for me is the open private courtyard/patio with its outdoor dining area (undercover in case it rains) and gas BBQ as well as the jacuzzi/shower 'wetroom', both of which are rare to find in Buenos aeries. It is not only conveniently located close to public transport but is situated opposite the San Telmo market for meat, vegetables and fruit. In a single block radius a fresh fish shop, amazing wine shops and several excellent restaurants including La Brigada can be found. My favorite rituals include breakfast coffee and croisants on Dorrego square. At night, a beer and unshelled peanuts at Dorrego bar (the 1st bar in Buenos Aires, established in 1881) followed by an Asado (BBQ) at the apartment, sitting outside sipping a glass of Torrontes or Malbec.
