Four nice, big bedrooms - very nice. Great walking access to almost everything - including the ballpark. Musty/mildew smell hits you as you enter the place. Entire place could use some updating for 5 star status - even though house is old/historic. Pool/outdoor area not usable/presentable. Bathroom sink fixture fell off the wall (still usable).Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car.

The house is charming, functional and comfortable. The owner was very helpful with all our concerns and was quick and reliable with responding to our inquiries. The house is fully equipped in the kitchen which allows you to come in a prepare meals easily but is located within walking distance to a variety of restaurants which work well for adults or children. A great place for couples or families with children. We would definitely return to this location for future visits to DCRecommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

This is a lovely location and the many bathrooms make it an ideal home for a family reunion. However, realize you are not staying at a hotel. It's a home with all the quirks homes can have. You may have to provide some of your own necessities, but our family felt it was worth the inconvenience. It was a bit off putting when we arrived and found unfinished laundry in the washer and sheets waiting on the kitchen table to be washed. The owner was accommodating however, and when we asked tried to make things right.Recommended for: Age 55+.
Owner response: The laundry was my mistake. I explained that I had mistakenly left the laundry in the kitchen. I live next door and was taking the laundry to my house to wash - but forgot to pick it up when I left the house after cleaning it. I certainly did not mean for you to wash it. All the beds were made and there were plenty of clean towels in the linen closets, so there was no need for you to actually do the laundry.

We rented the house for our family for Christmas week - a great time to be in DC as most people leave. We arrived to a house that was warm, lights on low, music playing and a Christmas tree in the living room. A wonderful welcome. The 4 bedrooms on the second floor accommodated 4 couples nicely and it was great to have the half bath on the first floor. Everything in the house was clean and functional. There was a crib, highchair and futon for the small children. The location was wonderful - we walked or took the Metro everywhere. We used the Eastern Market and the little corner store for all of our groceries and walked to restaurants in the area when we ate out. I don't think the house is great for small children (we had 3 under 3) There are glass art objects everywhere, glass coffee table in the living room, and a glass table in the dining room. Both the front and back stair cases are very steep. Fortunately, neither the children nor the objects got hurt.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, families with teenagers.

5 co-workers of mine onthe National tour of War Horse rented this lovely home for three weeks while we played the Kennedy Center. Amazing place. Wonderful charm and relaxing atmosphere in one of our favorite neighborhoods in DC. Close to the train and to shops on the 8th street and eastern Market. Close to the Mall and the Capitol. Dianne is wonderful and very accomodating. Wonderful place to stay I highly reccomend it.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

My wife & I stayed with my parents and our 3 boys, ages 15, 11, & 9. Roomy, comfortable, well-appointed. Diane was consistently helpful and accommodating. We did not get a car -- it's a 10 min walk to either Capitol South or Eastern Market. Nice neighborhood; coffee & restaurants both within easy walks. It was too cold to swim, but the pool looked nice.... Highly recommended!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children.

We were 3 couples that stayed from 9/30/2012-10/7/2012 - wonderful time had by all. Thank you, Diane, for sharing your home with us...it was the perfect place to stay. We loved having so much room to socialize in and having our own bedroom/bath suites was the best. Much better then staying in a hotel-and cost wise was much better. As everyone has said the amenities and the house itself and the neighborhood helped make our trip to DC so special. Just about a 10 minute or less walk to 2 different Metro stations (Capitol South and Eastern Market), if you choose to use the bus (Circulator or City) just a short walk to H St.(5 min. walk). Tons of restaurants nearby, and don't for get the famous Eastern Market is just about a 10 min. walk. We rented a car for Fri. and Sat. so we could take a day trip to Charlottesville, VA to see Thomas Jeffersons house (Monticello), and a day trip to Mount Vernon to visit George Washington's house and Alexandria..one quick text to Diane to get our parking permit and it was waiting for us on the dining room table when we got home Friday evening...perfect! Thanks, also, Diane for the goodies that were waiting for us when we arrived- much appreciated.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

This home is clean, well furnished, large and a delight to stay in. We had 4 couples who had just completed a weeks stay in New York, in a less than suitable rental, so we were delighted to find a welcoming and wonderful place to stay in Washington. The owner is very kind and accomodating as we found muffins, yogurt, milk, half-and-half, coffee, bread and butter awaiting us as we arrived. She also stopped by to make sure everything was in order and to offer help in finding shopping, restaurants and activities in the area. The home is well-stocked with all the kitchen items you need, clean fresh sheets in the 4 wonderful bedrooms, is air conditioned, has a wonderful backyard, with a pool and is located withing 4-5 blocks of the Capitol Building, Metro stops, and a host of great restaurants and grocery stores and anything else one could ask for. There is a living room, kitchen, laundry, half-bath and dining area on the ground floor, and 4 bedrooms (2 with private bathrooms and 2 with a jack-and-jill bathroom on the second floor. We cannot say enough about the home, the owner and the great time we had, as we toured the Capitol area, walked along the near-by shops and restaurants, and enjoyed relaxing by the pool. This home is a great bargain that makes a stay in Washington a delight. No need to rent a car, everything is within walking distance or a short ride from the close-by Metro stations. We highly recommend this home and thank the owner for such a wonderful stay!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+.

This Capitol Hill home was perfect for the Labor Day wedding weekend of my DC son. Host Diane helped suggest arrangements for the rehearsal dinner we hosted at the house and even loaned us wine glasses and bowls for serving! The pool was very clean and appreciated by those that stayed at the house, as it was very, very DC hot and humid. The home was clean and the descriptions/photos in the listing were right on. There were plenty of dishes and storage space for all of the rehearsal party fixings too. This home was a real find. All of the folks that both stayed there and visited were in awe!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

My partner and I were looking to get married in DC (since it not legal where I live). We looked at several hotels for us and our guests (party of 10) and places to have the ceremony, this house came up in our search and it was perfect. Had plenty of room for guest, pool to relax and let the kids play, and garden to have the ceremony (which we planned to do). Diane (the owner) was great, she let us use the covered arbor to have the ceremony and even set up a table and several plants and flowers around making it look like an Italian outdoor space. Not only did she go above and beyond by doing that but she also let us into her main home to do pictures on her great staircase and beautiful living area. The house we stayed in was just as described in the ad and did not disappoint. Next time we are up we will stay there again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

The Unique Benefits at this House:
Capitol Hill is an absolutely wonderful place to live. We love the history of the homes nearby and learning what famous people have lived in them, walking by the Library of Congress, Supreme Court, and the Capitol at night, walking to nearby first rate restaurants, and watching the Marine Corps Band and Honor Guard's Tattoo on Friday nights, Recently the city has opened a beautiful new park just down the street on the waterfront. There's a great sidewalk level fountain for the kids to play in, free outdoor/lawn movies and music on summer evenings. The entire Capitol Hill area has undergone an incredible revitalization within the past ten years and many young families with small children fill the many parks. Most of my guests really enjoy Eastern Market - because on weekends you can find great fresh foods, antiques, international craft items, art and lots of jewelry. It is superbusy - very fun place to spend time with friends.
