Woodland Cottage was ideal for our end-of-September stay on Mt. Desert. The cottage is nicely situated in the woods. The rooms are generous, the furniture comfortable, the kitchen extremely well equipped. There’s even a good view of the bay and islands. Our host, Doug, was a helpful presence who was always available when we needed him, but never intrusive. Do take advantage of his offer to secure you lobster at fisherman’s prices. Do have the scrumptious Lobster Chowder at Beal’s Lobster Pier in the harbor (yes, Doug is one of those Beals). Do NOT have dinner at the Seafood Ketch in Bass Harbor. Yuck. No need to brave the crowds on the Noisy Side (Bar Harbor). There is great hiking practically out the back door on the Quiet Side. Try Flying Mountain/Valley Cove/St. Saveur, for instance. In a full day’s hiking, we encountered maybe a half dozen people.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+.

We stayed here during the second week of September and really enjoyed our visit. It was as if someone took an old-fashioned knotty-pine vacation cottage and rebuilt it with all the modern conveniences. The location is quiet enough to have a frog and a deer in the yard, yet close to all the things we wanted to do in Acadia. In addition to helping us get set up for a lobster dinner, we also appreciated Doug’s help with hiking recommendations. It is not set up for wheel-chair bound people and families with small toddlers might want to bring a gate(because of the steep loft stairs), but I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone else looking for a quiet vacation.Did you find this review helpful? We had the most amazing time at Woodland Cottage!! Driving up a rocky, windy, road, we found a little piece of heaven shrouded in trees. To say the cottage exceeded our expectations is an understatement! Waking up every morning looking out at the view of the ocean was incredible. And the best part by far was our hosts. Doug and Vicki made us feel at home. Whether it was letting us borrow their kayakes or their lobster pot (not to mention getting us some incredible lobsters) we can only hope that if they ever want to come and visit Baltimore, we can show them the same hospitality! We most defintely will come back and highly recommend others to check out this cottage that held some of the best memories we have made thus far : ) Thanks Doug and Vicki!!!!Did you find this review helpful? My wife and I stayed here with our 4 children; (4, 7, 11, and 15 years old) and it was everything we hoped for and more. The cottage is brand new and has so much rustic charm it can not be explained in words! Outside the cottage the views are spectacular and the grounds are done perfectly to match the cottage charm. Take a short stroll down the driveway and you are in the quaint downtown with multiple shops, restaurants, and stores. This is the perfect location since you are basically at the mid point of the island making everything on MDI with in a few minutes travel. Finish your day off by swimming in Echo lake a short 5 minute drive. The owners are certain to make sure you have a comfortable stay and yes they will even deliver your lobster to your doorstep for you! Thank you so much!Did you find this review helpful? We had a wonderful vacation on Mount Desert Island! There is so much to do in the area. The vacation rental was excellent! The property was clean and brand new. Everything was exactly how it was described online. The house is a convenient location to town in Southwest Harbor, but far enough from the action so that it's a quiet, peaceful location. We highly recommend this vacation rental!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We had a great time in SW Harbor. The cabin was spacious and fully equipped (grill, tv/radio, kitchen appliances) and it was a really peaceful setting. It was also a great location for any Acadia activities- close enough, but not in the heart of the busiest tourist spots. Doug was very helpful- he gave us maps, directions, and even helped us load the two kayaks that came with the property on our car. The grounds right around the cabin are not entirely attractive (another cabin is being built nearby), but the ocean in the distance and proximity to town make up for it.Did you find this review helpful? We had a perfect vacation in the cottage. It was spotlessly clean (which is always our biggest concern). We had marginal weather during the week of our stay- cold and rainy, but the cabin was always welcoming at the end of the day. We picked the Southwest Harbor side of the island to stay away from the crowds at Bar Harbor, but the 'season' really doesn't start until Mid-June so very few crowds to deal with anyway. Our kids loved the loft area. Our bedroom was well furnished and the bed was extremely comforable. The kitchen was complete and the appliances, dishes and tableware new. The owner was gracious and was concerned that we had everything we needed. He even brought some puzzles over. He lives close by and was attentive without being intrusive. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and feature a small stream which winds past the cabin. The cabin is technically in town, but very secluded. Recommend Quietside Cafe for casual meals and the desserts, Sips for a sit down meal. Grab some wine, cheese and crackers at Sawyer Specialities- great selection and prices. Two of our favorite hikes were Beehive (not for those with acrophobia) and the Long Pond/Perpendicular trail. The bike rental in Northeast Harbor was great starting point for a carriage trail ride to Jordan Pond House. (11 miles round trip). I enthusiastically endorse this cabin without reservation.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers.

This brand new cabin is in a quiet location with a view of Southwest Harbor. The real treat of staying here is that is really feels like a home away from home. That may be cliche, but it is really the truth. The cabin has everything you need to stay in all week (which would be a shame) or go out as much as you want. It was a great home base to do sightseeing and traveling around the area. We did not visit during the busy season, but I can imagine that staying on this side of the island would be a welcome escape from the busyness of Bar Harbor. There are many hikes and beautiful sites on the way to Bar Harbor that you don't want to miss. The owners are very nice and accommodating, making sure you have everything you need to make your stay wonderful. He can even get fresh lobster and seafood if you are interested. This cabin would be very comfortable for 4 people, but would sleep six.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing, adventure seekers.
