Doon Hill Cottage is set on a hilltop in the heart of rural County Clare, surrounded by its own pasture and vegetable garden, with stunning 180 degree views across the lake valley and as far as the sea at Lahinch. Approached via its own private driveway, this traditional Irish cottage, with its Moher flagstone roof and whitewashed walls, has been renovated and modernised by the current owners, retaining the simple charm and keeping it true to its history, while ensuring it is fitted with the conveniences of modern living.
Accommodation: The front door opens into the sitting room, with original flagstone floors and a wood burner, slate lintels and wooden windowsills and views across the lake valley. With 2 sofas, an armchair, dining table and bench seats to seat 8, this room is the heart of the home and perfect for reading, chatting, playing or simply watching the birds on the feeder.
An archway leads through to the kitchen which is fully equipped and will suit all cooks, from culinary genius to survival eaters, with a solid fuel stove, gas hob, original butchers block work surface, fridge, plus a small table and bench seats, ideal for morning coffee or afternoon tea. A domestic Gaggia coffee machine, comes supplied with beans and will make the morning coffee routine a treat.
Through the kitchen is the utility, with an electric oven, freezer, washing machine and w/c.
From the other end of the sitting room a door leads through to the main bedroom, a light and cosy room with wooden floors and views to the valley. The double bed has an electric blanket and there is clothes storage in a wardrobe and chest of drawers.
The main bathroom is off the bedroom and has a walk-in shower, bath, basin and w/c. The 2 windows make this room wonderfully light.
Further sleeping is provided tucked into the eaves, accessed via open stairs from the sitting room. (Not suitable for the very young or infirm). The space can accommodate two single people or a couple.
Doon Hill is our home, and we'd like it to be yours while you are here, so you are welcome to burn turf (from our own bog), collect eggs from our hens, talk to our sheep, feed our very tame bluetits and goldfinches and use our bikes and bodyboards. Vegetables will also be made available from the garden seasonally.
You will be perfectly situated between Cliffs of Moher and the Burren, with Kilfenora village, located just a few minutes away being regarded as the gateway to the Burren. Here you can get basic provisions (bread, papers, milk), plus enjoy traditional Irish dancing at Vaughan's Pub and excellent food. Ennistymon just 10 minutes away, serves as the market town of North Clare. Here you can shop at the new, large supermarket and from the local shops which are worth a visit to see the traditional high street and old shop fronts. You can trace your roots if so desired at the genealogical centre just 15 minutes away. Lahinch beach is just 10 minutes away and if you fancy surfing or learning both can be done here, rental and schools are available right on the beach front.
The house is owner occupied outside of the rental periods, giving it a homely feel and we will do all we can to ensure you have all you need to make your stay as comfortable as possible.

Year Purchased: 1994
About the owner: Bought the house back in 1994, totally fell in love with the character of it and spent the next few years renovating it and we feel maintaining its integrity.
I'm originally from England and my wife is from the North of Ireland and we are both well and truly settled living in this beautiful part of the world.
I moved to this part of the world about 20 years ago. I originally just came on a surf trip and ended up not going back to England as I was so taken with the place.
We rent the house out for a period of the summer and then we live in it for the rest of the year so as we've said has a homely feel that we hope you'll appreciate.
We've both travelled quite a bit and love the idea of offering the hospitality the other way and would love to give as much help and information to fellow travelers on the local area and some information on the more off the beaten tourist track.
Why the Owner Chose Kilfenora: We chose this location as its so close to the ocean and has so many out door activities nearby from hiking to surfing. It's really quite close to Shannon airport too, just 1 hour away.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage: It's such a lovely place to come back to after a day of sightseeing, it really feels like you get the total holiday experience when you stay somewhere that has so much history contained in the walls.
