Our 3 bedroom, 2 bath modern two-story cabin is located on the west side of Donner Summit, with great access to the SF Bay Area, so you can get there fast and return ahead of everyone else. The home has an open floor plan with a large common area, high ceilings, and a large wood stove, providing a comfortable space to hang out after a day on the slopes, play games, watch movies.
Built in 1992, the cabin is in a small community along the Yuba River, 7 miles from Sugar Bowl Ski Resort, 5 miles from Royal Gorge Cross Country Ski Resort, less than 7 miles from Boreal, 16 miles from Truckee. The west side location means it's easier to get to (we often avoid the chain controls at Kingvale) and faster to get home since you're ahead of the Tahoe Basin traffic.
The home is great for families, with 2 bedrooms upstairs overlooking the living room (one with a queen bed and the other with two bunk beds), and one downstairs (another queen bed) comfortably sleeping 8. Two bathrooms, one up, one down, each with a shower. Spacious kitchen with all the plates and pots you'll ever need. Yes, there's a TV and DVD player, though we recommend dipping into the game cabinet! A forced air furnace keeps it toasty, but we still like the wood stove for the 'mountain mood.'
The property backs to open space where we sled and snowshoe out the back door.
You won't find cable TV (we ski and watch movies) or a dishwasher (we use the kids).
