Log-Inn: Large Creek-Front Home, a Short Stroll to the Beach.

Log-Inn was constructed in 1947. It was one of the first year-round houses on Pawleys Island, which is one of the oldest resorts on the east coast and steeped in history! The house is unique and original and being creek-front, offers a yard with more outside space and privacy than ocean-front houses that hug the sand dunes. It is a large, comfortable home that has been in the same family for 65 years. The salt-water creek and marsh are its backyard and are viewed through all of the rooms on the west side of the house. There are 4 bedrooms, 2 downstairs and 2 up, with a bathroom on each floor. The large den opens onto a long screened porch, complete with rockers for reading, chatting and relaxing and a picnic table for 'outside' dining. There is a brick BBQ grill in the front yard, along with an enclosed outside shower with hot/cold water. A long dock leads to the creek where kayaks, canoes or stand up paddle boards can be launched. Fishing, crabbing and/or swimming in the creek are favorite activities while staying at Log-Inn. The house is especially conducive to bird watching, as numerous species of shore birds and long-legged wading birds visit the creek daily at low tide. And a bald eagle or two are often spotted flying over, and sometimes resting, in a tall pine on an undisturbed wooded lot, owned by the family, that is adjacent to the house. If the beach is calling your name, the ocean is just a short walk away (approx. 1.5 blocks) where swimming, fishing, surfing or simply relaxing, walking and beach-combing await. If you are seeking a bit more action, Myrtle Beach is a mere 30 minute drive up Hwy 17. And last but not least, if you are seeking down-home comfort, serenity and a sense of home away from home, this is the house for you. Be our guests and start building your Pawleys Island memories by staying at Log-Inn. You might end your vacation feeling like part of the family. Visit Log-Inn on Facebook for more photos and comments.
Keywords: Rustic, original old Pawleys Island style, creek-front, put your feet up comfortable, 1.5 blocks from the ocean. Free WiFi and long distance.

I can honestly say that our family of nine has never had a better beach vacation, and we have spent a lot of time at a lot of beaches in our lifetime. This comfortable old home tucked back at the end of a cul-de-sac and its quiet creekside location made all the difference. If you like paddling in the marsh (we brought our own canoe) and fishing for flounder or just walking the nearby beach and watching the pelicans, Log-Inn is the ideal place for you. If you like not having to worry about bringing in a little sand on your flip-flops, Log-Inn is for you. And, best of all, if you enjoy watching birds and little crabs scuttering about, there's no finer spot for a nature get-away than Log-Inn. (We saw a Painted Bunting in the front yard one morning!) Quite frankly, our family was having too much fun cooking together to eat out, but we did notice several nice restaurants nearby. The owner was most helpful and eager to make our stay a pleasant one. The absence of a dishwasher was no problem, and in fact, after a week of hand washing dishes, we all agreed it was no big deal and came home and threw out our dishwashers..... The property was as advertised - clean and homey. The little yard made for great family cook-outs - we did bring our own grill, although the house has a brick outdoor fireplace. And, the outdoor shower house is wonderful! Several of us enjoyed taking our showers in the great out-of-doors when the bathrooms were in use..... I hate to say too many good things about Log-Inn for fear everyone will want to come and we won't be able to get a week for ourselves. So, just know that you will not be disappointed if you choose Log-Inn for your next beach vacation. We loved it!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers.
Owner response: We are so happy you had such a good week! We always love it when our renters can connect with the area, the house and its surroundings. Thanks so much for choosing Log-Inn! We look forward to your return trip! And we loved the drawing in the guest book!!

Great stay at the Log Inn! We loved the historical appeal of the house, the privacy on the street, creek views, and proximity to the beach. The house allows for personal privacy when desired, but great central areas for coming together. Great porches, cozy kitchen. Loved the laundry porch.! Charming!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you for the kind words! We are so glad you had a good stay...and appreciate the picture you sent! It's always nice when our renters can connect with the house and "old Pawleys". Thanks again for choosing Log-Inn!

A visit to Log-Inn is a lovely step back in time. This is an authentic log home where your family can create and share wonderful experiences in the marsh and the tidelands. You will enjoy this comfortable home nestled on the creek and just a short walk to the beach. The highlight of our visit were the almost daily visits by one or both Bald Eagles! This was our second visit and I am sure we will be back soon to enjoy another relaxing Pawleys experience.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.
Owner response: We are so glad for your return visit! It is our wish that our renters feel at home while staying in Log-Inn. And how wonderful that the eagles played a part in your Easter week! We never tire of seeing them...so happy you feel the same. And we especially enjoyed the poem you left in our guest book!!

We spend our family vacation at Log Inn for the second year and were not disappointed. The atmosphere is so very conducive to relaxation and family fun. There are so many touches of home there, it is evident it was and still is, a home filled with love. Together there were 6 adults and an 18 month old. The home is large enough we could spread out and be comfortable, having areas for family time and areas for private time when needed. It is located within walking distance from the beach and close to the creek where we enjoyed floating on a tube and kayaking. Lots of things to do in close proximity for those who liked an adventure. We enjoyed keeping a look out for the eagles, but alas, were disappointed not to see them this year. It was a wonderful week.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing.
Owner response: We are so happy you have made Log-Inn your home away from home. It is our hope that those who stay will look forward to return visits, feeling as if they are returning to an old friend. Thanks for the kind words!

We did enjoy our time on Pawleys island. We found Log-Inn to be a home that grew on us over the course of our stay. There is generous space in this home, with many places to lounge and gather. Found much of our time was spent in the large living room, and kitchen/dining room. Wifi was a plus. The girls enjoyed the upstairs bedroom with their own bathroom for much needed mirror time. What impressed us was how close to the house the marsh egrets, cranes, and other fishing birds came; since this is the only home, on the island(as we understand), built over the salt water marsh. The crabs are myriad, and we enjoyed getting to know the different ones (i.e. ghost crabs, hermit crabs, and those numerous tiny ones that come out at low tide). We believe we saw a juvenile or young eagle catch a fish very close to us, and managed to carry his catch away without the gulls challenging him. The home is clean, with no musty or unpleasant odors detected. The different woods used in the home add to it's character. We could tell that the family who lived here enjoyed reading and learning exhibited by the many books located in the home, and they were knowledgeable regarding the nature in their corner of South Carolina. This is a home that begs to be explored, including it's 2 large porches, each with its own character. There is a paw paw tree in the lawn, and it's fruit looked inviting. Easy walk to the beach, with just enough time allowed to discover other people in the neighborhood, which leads to meeting very pleasant neighbors. This home adapted itself well to our active lifestyle while here. As much of our time was spent on the beach, the home didn't seem offended by the introduction of sand onto its porch, nor by towels and swim suits draped over its many rocking chairs. Is it any older home? Yes, with many memories left there to be discovered by its guests. Granted, it does require some planning in order to bring enough bed linens, bath towels, etc. but these are well spelled out in the rental agreement. Pay attention to the list of things to bring. This home seemed surrounded by the privacy of the natural island flora, without any sense of other homes infringing on your privacy, but access was easy.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers.
Owner response: It sounds like you discovered the magic that is Pawleys...and Log-Inn. We love hearing that our renters feel comfortable enough to explore the nooks and crannies. Thank you for the kind words and for choosing Log-Inn for your vacation!

The house was extremly filthy! The upstairs of the property had such a foul oder we had to sleep on matress on floor downstairs! Not to mention all furniture was dirty, & u pay a cleaning deposit but u have to wash all dishes by hand, take out all garbage, wash & dry all dish rags & dish towels u use! I could have cleaned the whole time i was there! Very disgusted with property!Owner response: Needless to say we are sorry the renter had such an unpleasant experience. However, none of the problems mentioned were brought to our attention while the house was being occupied. In other words, the renter stayed 5 nights without reporting any problem whatsoever. Log Inn is not filthy. It is cleaned thoroughly in between renters. The foul odor was caused by a bird that had gotten stuck, and perished, between 2 windows above an AC unit. The renter discovered this and still did not call to let us know of the problem. We are always here to help, should issues arise. But we cannot do that unless we are notified. In regards to other points mentioned, that is, dish washing and trash, these terms are stated clearly in our Rental Agreement. They were accepted and initialed by the renter before occupying the house. We have rented Log Inn to vacationers for 4 years. This is the first negative review we have received.

Our family thoroughly enjoyed our week at the Log Inn. It was so much fun watching the marsh come in and out and seeing the kayaks, floats in the marsh, the birds and all of the sea creatures just outside of our windows. We cooked, played corn hole on the porch, read and had lots of fun times that week. I know we will want to return very soon.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.
Owner response: Sounds like you had a great 4th on Pawleys! Thanks for choosing Log-Inn.

My husband and I had a very relaxing stay at Log Inn. We were very interested in the book of family stories about growing up at the marsh/ocean. It was fun to look out the window at different times of the day to see how the marsh changed with the tides. The ocean was just a short walk away, and we went several times during the week. We also went to Brookgreen Gardens and Huntington Beach state park, both were interesting places. Our favourite restaurant was Applewood House of Pancakes. just north of Pawleys, in Litchfield SC. We did see an eagle one day, but we believe it was a juvenile, as it had not developed the white head and tail yet, but did have the yellowish legs.Recommended for: Age 55+, sightseeing.
Owner response: We're so glad you enjoyed your stay! And seeing a juvenile eagle is something we haven't seen yet...although we knew the 2 that come by was a nesting pair. Thank you for choosing Log-Inn!

Log-Inn was just what we were looking for. A unique, relaxing, quaint and comfortable spot to spend our Spring Break / Easter. We had five children with us from the age of 8-18 and all of them were enjoying what the island had to offer. The property was steeped in island history and the owners gave you the opportunity to peek into the memory of what it was like to be part of a family that grew up year-round on Pawleys Island! On a salt marsh no less!! Fishing and kayaking on the creek, daily visits to the beach (short walk), biking, running/walking and watching the tide literally roll in and out was the perfect recipe for a great week. Easter Sunday was greeted by a beautiful Sunrise Service on the South End of the Island and then we even cooked a full-blown Easter holiday dinner in the quaint but well-stocked kitchen. The Log-Inn was spacious, comfortable and convenient, complete with a very useful enclosed outside shower. The icing on the cake was the opportunity to watch wildlife from the house. Mind you, we are not "bird-watchers", however, the daily sites of beautiful birds and egrets right outside of the bay window were fascinating. Finally, two American Bald Eagles would come to perch on the tall pine trees in plain view from the house (within fifteen feet!). It was as if they were coming to say "good morning". They showed up several mornings and we were delighted to simply watch them sit in the tree but also got to watch them go 'fishing' in the marsh/creek and eat their morning catch. Thanks for the memories!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing.
Owner response: We're so glad you enjoyed all Pawleys has to offer. And especially happy that the house "spoke" to you. Thank you for choosing Log-Inn!

We traveled with our 4 adult children and infant grandchild to Log-Inn for a wonderful family vacation. The home was spacious and provided a home atmosphere for our family. The location is close to the beach for those who wanted sand and sun and close to the creek for those who wanted to float rafts and kayiak. It provides an excellent opportuinty for restoring ones self with peace and quite while at the same time offers opportunities for excitement and adventures for those who seek it. I would recommend Log-Inn as a place that offers families the opportunity to be a family.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: We appreciate your choosing Log-Inn for your family vacation and so glad you had such a good time! Thank you for the kind words.

Location
Owner info
Year Purchased: 1947
About the owner: My brother, sister and I grew up in Log-Inn. It is not your typical 'beach rental' but a real family home. My brother and I still live in the Pawleys area, across the creek from Log-Inn. Our father was a forester who brought us up to love and respect nature and we have encouraged our children and grandchildren to follow in those footsteps. We have family gatherings at Log-Inn whenever we can and enjoy continuing the traditions passed on to us by our parents.
Why the Owner Chose Pawleys Island:
Log-Inn was not purchased, but built by my grandfather and a contractor who was a close friend of my father. It was one of the first year-round homes in the Birds Nest section of the Island and was completed in 1947, when Pawleys was truly a 'paradise'.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
We get together with family as often as possible and simply enjoy being in the house we grew up in, reliving old memories while creating new ones. Crabbing, fishing, playing in the creek or beach-combing and surfing (those younger than us) are favorite activities. What better way to spend your time, than whiling away long evening hours on the screened porch with family members?
