The house was cute and well equipped, and the fenced yard was convenient for our dog. The place was a mess when we checked in. I can appreciate the family before us was evacuated because of Hurricane Irene and may not have had time to clean up, but everything from the front porch was thrown on top of the furniture in the front room, the floors and the refrigerator looked as if the hadn't been cleaned all season and I used a cleaner bathroom at a rest stop on the way. We spent our first day of vacation just cleaning the place. We lost two days because of the evacuation and without even the courtesy of a phone call the owners refused to reimburse us for any of it. We had to chase down the real estate agent for 2 weeks after leaving the island to find out. I personally feel that is a lousy way to do business. For that reason alone I wouldn't recommend renting this property to anyone.
Owner response:It was unfortunate that your vacation occurred following hurricane Irene. You signed a contract with a real estate agent not a contract with the owner. If you would have dealt with the owner directly you would have had a more positive outcome. You never spoke with the owner but spoke with a real estate agent. Now two months later you try to put your misfortune on me. If it was such a unpleasant experience why do you choose to use this forum to express you unsatisfaction instead of dealing with the owner directly? Why is it you wrote such a positive experience in my guest book ? You arrived 2 hours after the ban was lifted from Hurricane Irene and you expected that everything would be fine ? I was on my way to my property as soon as the roads were opened but your real estate agent told that you said everything was fine and I turned back. In future if you have problem with the property contact owner directly. Easily done in this case because business cards and phone # for owner are posted in several places on the prooerty.
