My husband, seven-year-old son and I stayed here for several days and wished that we had stayed longer!! This house is in a central location from the many available adventures in the area, all of which are located in opposite directions from each other. This is a perfect base to see the surrounding areas from the waterfalls/lava tube caves (depending upon which falls 10-30 miles away), volcano national park (about 23 miles away), and snorkel/beach areas (depending upon the area 10-25 miles away). We found KTA grocery store on the outside of Hilo that carried fresh fish, local produce and a lot of Asian food supplies. Also the Farmer's Markets were a great place to get local fruit and the Suisan Fish Market in Hilo is a great place to get fresh fish. The home was very welcoming place to relax after coming back from our adventures, especially being able to fall asleep to the sounds of the frogs, birds and rainfall at night. It was so nice to have a swimming pool to ourselves as opposed to the crowded resorts in the area. Someday we will be back so we can go to the observatory, explore the tidal pools, do more hikes at the volcano national park and explore the Waipio Valley. The beds were better than the Hilton and Sheraton resorts on this island. We highly recommend staying at this rental!

We loved this house!!!!! The property is immaculate, and the house is more beautiful than the photos! The open kitchen/dining room/living room floor plan was perfect for visiting while feeding snacks to the kids, cocktail hour and cooking meals. We found the location to be convenient for volcanoes national park, pahoa village, the tidepools and all the surrounding activities of Hilo (farmers market, beaches, snorkeling, scuba diving, botanical garden, zoo, helicopter tour, and mauna loa macadamia factory). The swimming pool with waterfall was an added bonus, and we used it every day. Our 3 year old loved running around the huge yard checking out the snails, rooster (from a neighboring house), frogs and geckos. This house definitely felt like a home away from home and our only complaint is that our vacation had to end. Mahalo!

This house is so lovely we didn't want to leave; EVER!! The pictures show it well but it's even nicer in person! So comfortable and easy to feel right at home the minute you walk in. The granite kitchen is gorgeous and well stocked with spices and gadgets. We shopped at the farmers markets and cooked most of our meals in. This wasn't our first trip to the Big Island so we had already done most of the touristy things and just wanted a nice place to stay with a pool for lounging, sunning and cooling off. The grounds and pool are impeccably maintained, as is the house. We were entertained daily by the geckos around the pool, so cute. And I'm really missing the sounds of the frogs at night. The owners were great to work with. We didn't have a need to contact the property manager but we did have the pleasure of meeting her as we were checking out! The one thing we did that we hadn't done before was visited the volcano. I highly recommend it, but be sure to pack something warm as it is quite chilly up there! There is also a great Thai restaurant in the small town just before you get there. If you decide to stay here (and why wouldn't you?) please take good care of it because we want it to be exactly the same next time we stay!!

The house was even more beautiful than the pictures. The pool and waterfall were pleasant. It was everything I expected. If I changed anything, it would be to have tv in the bedrooms. We went with other than family members and would have liked to watch something different. The trash sorting was confusing but could be easily fixed. The owners and manager were very helpful when it was confusing. Easy to stay there, shopping close by including farmers markets. Would recommend it for families or close groups. Beds were comfortable, umbrellas provided as it rained a lot, no air conditioner but the fans in every room kept it cool and pleasant.

We spent a wonderful Christmas week here that we will all cherish. The house is beautiful, light, airy and comfortable. It is filled with high celings, relaxed but elegant furniture and beautiful artwork. The yard has been planted with beautiful native trees and flowers. The kitchen is fully stocked, very clean and a pleasure to use. The water is from a well and good to drink. The beds were super comfy including the Murphy bed in the office (so fun!). It took us a full day to find that there was a second bathroom in the pool house. And the lava outdoor shower-amazing. The night time rains dripping off the wide overhangs lulled us to sleep. And the morning sun streaming through the bedroom windows helped us get up for another day of adventure. The house is on a quiet street, well positioned between Volcanos National Park and Hilo. We were able to easily go on many wonderful adventures. I found myself thinking of how I might change the house and really could not come up with any suggestions. After a few days in this house, you will think to yourself, "Why am I not living here full time?" Mahalo for a wonderful, magical week.

We had the pleasure of staying 3 nights at this amazing home in December. I can't say enough about how the home was everything we hoped for and more. From the tons of natural light to the beautiful pool and outdoor shower, to the secluded natural surrounding, we were more than pleased with our stay. You can tell the owners are very proud of this home and they have done a great job in making it a place that welcomes you from the very first moment. It was immaculately clean and very well maintained. Bedding was very comfortable, and the surround sound with the huge tv in the living room/kitchen was a nice touch. It's out of the way enough to feel like you're away from it all, but still close enough to plenty of restaurants and shops. We planned three additional nights on the west side of the island at a resort on the beach and found ourselves wishing we'd planned to stay here longer. Definitely follow the owners advice on things to do and see (provided in a welcome packet in advance and on the property). We had an amazing time swimming with sea turtles at the sites they recommended. If we're fortunate enough to go back to the Big Island, I'll definitely want to stay here again.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for four nights in May of 2012 and had an amazing time! This isn't like going to stay in just another rental home, but is more like staying at a friend's house. You will find anything and everything you need to enjoy your time on the Big Island inside this house. The house was perfect to use as a launching point for day trips (Kona side, Volcanoes National Park, Botanical Gardens) and also perfect for just relaxing at home. Whether your days are jammed pack with activities or you prefer spending your vacation relaxing by the pool and grilling food, this house is for you. The kitchen is fully stocked with every cooking utensil you could ever want in addition to typical household spices. The bathrooms have bath & beach towels plus essentials you can dip in to in case you forgot something (toothbrush, shampoo, etc). The bedrooms look out toward the pool and allow for maximum sunlight exposure. The living room/ dining area is huge with a great entertainment center. Whether you want to watch one of the DVDs in the house or the satellite TV, the set up is great. Finally, there is also an office (with an additional sleep space if needed) so if you weren't able to leave work at home or you just want to catch up on some emails, there is a space for that as well. I can't say enough about how much we enjoyed our stay here. Next time we travel to the Big Island, we will definitely be back!

They say the big island of Hawaii is a mini-continent lacking only 2 of the 14 biomes on earth - boreal forest and true Arctic conditions. Everything else can be found. This house falls into a similar ranking. Hilo does get more rain than Kona, and it isn't right on the water. But everything else you will find. And, being 20 minutes south of Hilo, and within 4 blocks of the water, it doesn't miss those two points by much - south of Hilo and close to shore, the rain and cloud cover drop off dramatically. Some might see not being on the water as an issue, but being a bit inland has it's benefits, like bigger lots and more privacy. That's especially nice because the house has a nice 18X30' pool, and accompanying outdoor shower. There's also a full bath, another shower and the washer and dryer in the poolhouse. Also poolside is a nice gas grille, fully worthy of the local strips steaks and seafood we grilled on those nights we weren't eating out. The house itself is a 2011 studs-out remodel of the basic 3-bedroom rambler, with an expanded master suite, compartmented bath, second bedroom, and sleeper office (soon with a Murphy bed), all newly and nicely decorated with high quality pieces. We are foodies, so a good cook's kitchen is imperative, and this one is no exception. Espresso brown cabinets with red granite counters, new gas range, refrigerator and dishwasher. Even the pots and pans (triple-ply stainless), knives (Henckels), and dishes are way above normal rental house quality. In the living room the couch and chairs face a huge flat screen TV with satellite, Blu-Ray and surround sound. Luckily, there's a universal remote, intelligently programmed so the learning curve is very short. Unfortunately, but hardly unique on the island, the internet access and wi-fi, while adequate for most uses, isn't fast enough to support streaming video like NetFlix. The dining room is enormous, easily seating 8 for a formal sit-down dinner, and with windows on 3 sides looking out on jungle, makes a perfect setting for a family and friends event. It's only in the bedrooms that there is any hint of this house's more humble origins. And even there the master has been extended to make it very spacious, and like the second bedroom, has a sliding glass door that leads to the pool. It's clear that the owners have a real commitment both to this property and to making a stay here a wonderful experience. Highly recommended. Pictures don't do it justice.
