This location was convenient to everywhere you want to be - the beach, harbor, shopping, restaurants and the urban wine trail! The property was clean and well maintained. The owners are on location and very helpful. I would highly recommend this location. There is no need for a car. The train station is a short walk away and public transportation is available. We will definately be back!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway.

My husband and I spent 5 super comfortable nights in Unit 2 and really enjoyed ourselves. The unit is very comfortably outfitted - though the shower is a little squishy tight. Location was perfect for our biking, walking and beach enjoyment. Holiday weekend parking was not a problem thanks to the Unit's permit! Train sounds were minimal and really welcoming. It was quiet and comfy. We previously stayed in hotels and had become annoyed with the house cleaning always occupying the room mid-day after we were out exercising and wanted to relax. This was wonderful to be without interruptions. And nice to have room to entertain family members for a quick glass of wine. The unit was clean and well equipped. The back Mission wall was interesting; however, the waterway is S.B. public area and not super attractive - some intriguing birds were observed. We will definitely stay again - ease of location, comfortable, price - all were great. The beach is truly a block away!! and a short jaunt over the train tracks set you on State Street.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway.
Owner response: The Mission Creek state in mid-to-late summer is always without flow; and with any seasonal rain in the area, it of course surges to drain the watershed from the nearby hills. The creek is a delicate ecosystem that supports fingerlings and spawning fish, as well as the diverse birdlife: herons, egrets, ducks, etc.

My Wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary in this lovely home. She says... OMGosh! Location, location, location! One block from the beach (where we played volleyball, and met gold medalist Phil Dalhausser!) Steps away, from some of the best seafood restaurants, boutiques, and winery's. We stayed in the larger unit. This rental is really clean, comfy, warm, and inviting. Great place to make breakfast before descending upon Oprah's house, lunch at the Biltmore or just chill and read a book. Jake, Sandi, and his Wife Joy are delightful folks as well! Extremely helpful, lending us volleyballs, bicycle's, and more. We were truly Blessed to find this hidden gem, and highly recommend this rental and will return soon, with our parents. Oh, and the tower garden's on the roof are amazing! ~The Allaire'sRecommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We have been staying at VRBOs for the past 4 years while vacationing in Santa Barbara. This location by far has been our favorite. The level was perfect and off of the street. It was very quiet and convenient to the beach area, etc. We truly loved it and will be looking forward to staying at the same location next year.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, girls getaway.

Even as a party of four, this charming four-room unit accommodated us nicely. Both queen beds in the main bedroom and the (astonishingly comfortable) sofabed in the living room were top-notch. The kitchen served us well for a complete meal prep on occasion, all needed utensils on hand. Loved the artwork! The owner offered his library of 400+ DVDs to us as well. The LOCATION is the main winner though! Having access to bicycles, the nearby beachfront beckons, and downtown is a breeze/Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

It is true that the location is great. That was about it for us. The bathroom shower barely fits an adult, it is 24"x32" which is really small. Lots of privacy concerns because there are no blinds on the window in the bathroom. Out of the four mornings we were there a man next door had a very loud conversation on the phone and unfortunately we heard every word. We were provided with one towel each for four nights, which we would have appreciated more. As for the rates, I had a room at the Oceano for the same price I stayed here. Because of the cleaning fee and us stayin only four nights instead of a week it really didn't work out to be a very good deal. Lastly, we had a skylight in the living room which the person above us could look down on us. The owner couldn't be there when we were there but did call and seemed nice enough but there were too many drawbacks for us to stay there again, mostly because of the shower and privacy.Owner response: Firstly, we are so sorry we were away while Mr. G. was occupying our unit for the weekend. I always attempt to address guests concerns and desires, though in an historic building in SB, my hands are tied as to enlarging bathroom dimensions. Most are unfazed, and the positives of spacious rooms, quality furnishings and artwork, along with a full kitchen, laundry and full-access internet and hi-res TV and BluRay disc player complement the great location. Our rooftop has recently become an urban aeroponic garden, and some maintenance happens, and I thank Mr. G. for the opportunity to address the final concern there - by putting a translucent visual barrier in place in the skylight shaft. The bathroom window overlooking the creek is unobservable from the exterior, but we have restored the curtainin there as well. Of course, we all have no control if some morning a neighbor decides to talk outdoors on a cellphone, hardly worth mentioning really, as it is not inherent in the offering of property. In general, our guests recognize the distinction as to what a unique vacation rental offers versus a single hotel room like the 'Oceana'. I am proud that we can compete on price!

This IS the ideal location for a Santa Barbara visit. We walked to the beach, State Street shopping/ dining, and wineries and it only took minutes. The accommodations are very comfortable and clean. The owners are most helpful and kind. We feel like it's our home away from home. We have stayed in both units, the single-level and 2-level. They both have their perks. We like the single-level because it's more roomy and we don't have to watch our toddler on the stairs. The 2-level has a larger outdoor patio and bath tub. We'll stay in either one every time we visit Santa Barbara.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

This property is well described in the listing. Walking to the beach or State Street for restaurants and shopping is only a few blocks. We only needed a car to travel to/from the airport. The rental was clean and adequate. The laundry facilities were a bonus. We had really nice soft linens and a comfortable queen bed. The sofa bed for our daughter was useful, however the sunlit room is very bright for sleeping. The bathroom (with a very small shower) is located off the bedroom, so any guests also go through the bedroom. The owner did request additional rent for the third person and a security deposit, which was not mentioned on the listing. The outside patio by the creek was shaded and the creek had stagnant water & trash until a night of rain changed the creek into rushing water. If you are up for a long beach walk at low tide, we enjoyed going from West beach to Hendry's beach to eat at the Boathouse, all along the water's edge.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Glad you enjoyed your stay. This is a new rental and we are considering whether to put a window & skylight treatment for the times when the living room is used by guests. The light is so nice though! As for the creek, it is a protected environmental area (and has wonderful birdlife!) and the periods of still water are outside our control - though the entire watershed is being re-engineered currently.

About the owner: We are new residents of Santa Barbara, having recently moved from the Sacramento area and Canada before that. We occupy the front main unit of this beautiful tri-plex by the beach and oversee the property ourselves. Our rooftop is a demonstration aeroponic, soil-less vertical farm. Health-conscious and fitness oriented, our family enjoys beach volleyball, bicycling and running right here in West Beach with its nearby amenities. We also are pioneering a soil-less, vertical aeroponic Tower Garden farm on our rooftop.
Why the Owner Chose West Beach:
West Beach is THE place to stay in SB for both beach and downtown access. Very few properties become available here.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The historic building and charming unit are unique in SB. The privacy offered by the backyard patio by Mission Creek is special.
