In 1990, Bill and Fran Cecil purchased a 5 acre estate on the shores of Lake Michigan, with nearly 300 ft. of rugged shoreline, reminiscent of the Atlantic coast of New England. Towering cedar trees border the property to the north and south with pristine woods separating it from Maxwelton Braes golf course to the west.
The Cecils than purchased an abandoned 1860 log home, discovered west of Green Bay, Wisc. and had it dismantled, transported and restored on the lakefront incorporating numerous antique architectural artifacts from other historic buildings.
The Log Home has been featured in " The Chicago Tribune", "Victorian Decorating and Lifestyle"," Log Home Living",and "Door County"magazines.
TWO BEDROOMS with 21/2 baths provide lovely accommodations for 2-4 persons. The FIRST FLOOR BEDROOM, and adjoining tiled full bath, has a corner fireplace with a 19th century spoon carved cherry mantle and built in cabinet concealing satellite TV/DVD/VCR. The heavily carved Victorian walnut bed faces the bay window with a stunning view of Lake Michigan sunrises.
The SECOND FLOOR BEDROOM is in a spacious loft with cathedral ceiling , three skylights and a massive oak spindled railing, salvaged from the demolished 1879 Door County courthouse. A magnificent century old stained glass window fills the end gable and gathers light from the sunrise over the lake, highlighting the ornately carved 19th century walnut bed.
ADJACENT TO THE LOFT BEDROOM is the great room with its comfortable furniture, oriental rugs, c.1880 German armoire that conceals another satellite TV/VCR/DVD, stereo system, movie and CD library. An oversize double whirlpool tub is placed under another antique stained glass and jeweled window. Two more skylights, a walkout balcony overlooking the lake, full bathroom with custom double bowl vanity, corner shower and mosaic tile floor complete the second story amenities. The second floor is reached by a cast iron Victorian SPIRAL STAIRCASE with a polished brass handrail.
The LARGE KITCHEN provides all modern appliances, including a dishwasher and microwave oven. The electric oven and range is a reproduction of an old fashioned cast iron and porcelain cook stove on polished nickel legs. In one corner of the kitchen is an imported English fireplace surrounded by hand painted hummingbird tiles and antique oak mantle. The KITCHEN CEILING is heavily embossed tin, also salvaged from the old courthouse, while the floor of the kitchen and SUN ROOM are recycled 90 year old bowling lanes.
Antique French doors open to the large sun room with four skylights and 125 year old multi-pane walnut windows from the long defunct VL&A store on Chicago's Wabash Ave.The dining room table is placed in front of the large picture window with panoramic views of the lake.
The Log Home is centrally air conditioned, and a full size washer and dryer are provided in the utility room next to the 1/2 bath.
OUTSIDE there is a spacious, well maintained lawn, flower beds, two covered porches with hanging porch swing, rockers, deck, grills, and picnic table. A path leads to the stairs to the shore with a fire pit. Kids love to find prehistoric fossil remains in the rocks on the shore.
The LOG HOME skillfully blends history, nostalgia and romance, in elegantly luxurious surroundings creating a uniquely different, one of a kind Door County vacation accommodation. Close to all sorts of recreational, cultural, educational and gastronomic experiences Door County has to offer, yet located on a quiet, secluded lane a short mile from Baileys Harbor village center.
We like to assure our guests that "The only things you need to bring are things to eat and drink!". Linens and towels are provided and the beds are made, ready to hop into. And we're here all four seasons, open year round.

The log home at Scofield North is a romantic, cozy and comfortable retreat for one or two couples The exquisite period furnishings are carefully chosen to match the turn of the century ambiance. Although the log home creates a sense of yesteryear, all the amenities are twenty-first century - state of the art kitchen, two and one/half modern baths and a private whirlpool tub on the upper level. We have spent many vacations here, in every season, summer, fall and winter - with our entire adult family or just the two of us. We hope to continue to enjoy the hospitality of the owners at their lovely log home and we invite you to do the same.Recommended for: Sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1990
About the owner: Hi! We're Bill and Fran Cecil. As a retired hospital executive and Registered Nurse wife,we decided to "drop out" while skiing in Door County, Wisc. 25 years ago. We bought an old Victorian House and established, and ran, a successful B&B. We later bought a 5 acre estate on the Lake Michigan waterfront in Baileys Harbor. On this property we established our two beautiful rental homes..a restored 1860,luxurious log home that we rebuilt on an acre on the waterfront; and a beautiful stone cottage across the lane. We have continued the traditions of sharing these beautiful homes and the personal attention to our guests' needs by welcoming and attending to each individually in a personal way. We own and manage the property and have been receiving rental guests since 1990.
Why the Owner Chose Baileys Harbor:
When this unique 5 acre estate became available in 1990, we saw an opportunity to develop this one-of-a-kind Door County waterfront property into elegant accommodations for vacation rental home guests. Door County, and Baileys Harbor in particular, offers our guests the best that Door County has to offer.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Gorgeous Sunrises and "Reflective" Sunsets, over the ever-changing waters of Lake Michigan. It is as beautiful in the beauty of the summer, as it is in the solitude of the winter. Although secluded on a narrow winding lane, just south of Baileys Harbor; it is walking distance to the village, shops, galleries, beaches, restaurants. The Lake Michigan side is truly "the quiet side"; environmentally protected, with many county parks, State Parks, near to golf courses...just a great place to be. If you love to hear the sounds of nature and look up at the night sky and see a million stars and guess the galaxies, than this is the place.
