This lovely home was perfect for a 5 day trip to Charleston. It was comfortable, with updated kitchen and bathrooms. There were several good restaurants less than a block away along with the trolley (DASH) stop. It was a great alternative to a hotel room.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Our condo at the Rutledge Avenue Inn was the perfect place for a reunion with our friends. The condo was exceptionally clean and had recently been renovated, with a modern kitchen and two master bedrooms with updated private baths. Since the weather was nice we enjoyed cocktails on the front porch. Our landlord was on site when we arrived and gave us a guided tour of the property. The property is on a busy street which provided a direct route to old town Charleston. We walked, but there are various forms of public transportation available. We ate breakfast at the Hominy Grill and had dinner at Lana's--both were excellent restaurants and within easy walking distance from the condo. It is approximately a 30 minute walk to downtown Charleston for shopping on King Street, the Market, the Battery and charming alleys and gardens. The owner was very helpful with suggestions and recommendations prior to our stay and promptly refunded our security deposit along with a thank you note. We would definitely visit this property again.Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We had the wonderful pleasure of staying for a week at the Ruteledge Avenue Inn after Thanksgiving. There were 3 of us and the minute we opened the door we were blown away. As many others have already commented, the pictures on the website do not do justice to this beautiful southern house. There are fireplaces in the livingroom, kitchen and master bedrooms, parquet flooring inlays throughout, beautifully updated bathrooms and a gourmet kitchen. It was so nice to have so much space to share. I don't believe I could ever stay in a hotel room again. The neighborhood is filled with amazing restaurants and is also conveniently close enough to walk to the historic parts of the city. Hominy Grill, just across the street, is fabulous and the new Xiao Bao Buscuit in a converted gas station a couple of blocks away was a perfect neigborhood adventure. If I were to ever visit Charleston again I wouldn't hesitate staying here. Thank you Rutledge Avenue Inn for helping to make our trip to Charleston so memorable.Did you find this review helpful? Accurate description and photos, spotless and well-maintained; owner was friendly and responsive, providing lots of good advice and links for the area. (He was also prompt in returning our deposit the very next day after we returned home.) The beds were very comfortable, the bathrooms modern and bright; the living room was a welcome and comfortable respite after hours of sight-seeing. The attractive, modern kitchen would have served us very well, if we had needed to use it. We would certainly stay there again if we return for another visit, although next time we would rent a smaller car, the easier to negotiate the private parking lot behind the house to get to our designated space, which sometimes was hard to maneuver into when other house guests were all home! Wholeheartedly recommend "Fuel" and "Hominy Grill", where we enjoyed excellent meals. Our group of four enjoyed a lot of exercise, walking through the attractive streets between our apartment and the downtown area - a free shuttle bus is also available nearby. We had pre-booked three downtown restaurants before arriving, which was a good call - there are many to choose from - we enjoyed High Cotton, Magnolia's and McCrady's. Took the ferry to Fort Sumter (pretty interesting), enjoyed walking through the Central Market (busy) and were entertained by the excellent guide on a horse-drawn tour, of which there are many. Middleton Place is a must-see, especially if the gardens are in bloom - we enjoyed it even though off-season. The restaurant at MP is a must!Did you find this review helpful? Just returned from our long weekend getaway to Charleston and the Rutledge Ave Inn provided us the perfect accomadations for our group. Beautifully restored old home in a neighborhood so that you feel like you are really living in Charleston. Gourmet kitchen for those that want to take advantage of cooking meals or just walk across the street for a wonderful dinner at the Hominy Grill. We ate dinner there our first night after arriving in town and ate breakfast the morning we were to drive out. Both were excellent and gave you the feeling you were among locals. I have to say that my favorite part of the condo was the walk in shower - huge with two shower heads and soring ceilings above! Thanks for all the information for tours, restaurants, things to do around town as well. We did walk into town one day and it was a hike but call a cab and it costs you $7.00 everyone in your group and you don't have to worry about driving and parking down town which can be pricey. Once your in town you can take the trolley around everywhere for free! Thanks again Matt for providing such a lovely roomey place to stay. You have down a wonderful job on your restorations.Recommended for: People with disabilities, girls getaway.

This was great weekend adventure. The location was perfect for using the FREE Trolly to downtown (stop was 1/2 block awary). The beds were comfortable, the house was clean, the neighborhood quite --- everything was PERFECT!! A side note--- After a few late night drinks a cab is necessary so be sure to check with cabs on the price back to the house --- the first night the cab driver charged us $20 .... the second night it was only $9.00. We didn't know but were sure to check before we got in again. Overall, a WONDERFUL trip!Recommended for: Girls getaway, tourists without a car.

We had a wonderful time. The apartment was truly lovely, newly renovated, spacious, and very clean, and much more luxurious than any hotel. It has all the amenities of a hotel but offers so much more comfort. We felt at home within minutes. The location is also great: away from the most touristy areas, but still centrally located, it gave us the feeling of actually living in Charleston. We walked almost everywhere and hugely enjoyed it. Matt Eldridge was our owner contact and was most attentive. We hope to Visit Rutledge Ave Inn again next year and have already recommended it to relatives and friends.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Stayed in Unit A for a girls trip this past weekend. The property is an old house divided into 4 separate condos. The property is very well kept and organized. The communication from the owner is outstanding. If you are looking to experience real Charleston charm and character this is the place! Great location set off King Street. We took a Pedicab everywhere around town. Great time – we will be back to stay again.Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

The Inn was in a great location. It was close to the trolly and within walking distance of several restaurants including The Hominy Grill, where we had lunch upon our arrival and for breakfast on Mother's Day. Our unit looked newly updated, but had a Charleston feel just like the pictures. The owners were very accommodating and they provided a lot of tips that were quite helpful. There was a car rental close by where we rented a car for a few days and went to a plantation and the beach. We would definitely stay there again.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Very comfortable with great kitchen and spacious rooms. Fun, convenient location from which to explore Charleston. If you're renting a car, better to get smaller one as driveway and parking space is a little narrow.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

I cannot say enough about our stay. The home exceeded all our expectations. We arrived earlier in town then expected and found that southern hospitality is true. We were allowed to drop our luggage off and headed out to lunch Truman, one of the owners, had given us a list of restaurants near by and by the end of our trip we had sampled them all and then some. After a day of sightseeing (and eating) we headed back for a much needed nap. Our rooms and the bathrooms were lovely, especially the master bath. They have done an exquisite job of renovating a 1920's house. Truman would pop by in the morning and by the time we left we felt like we had made new friend.Did you find this review helpful? This was our first time to Charleston and therefore of course, our first time to the Rutledge Ave. Inn. What a great choice! We were two couples (60+) and are already considering a return visit. The condo, taking up the lower floor of a 100+ year old house, was perfect for us. Capacious communal space with the halls, living room, and kitchen meant that we weren't on top of each other. We had lovely bedrooms which were both ensuite and an extra bonus - a half bath off the entrance hall. When the owners renovated this house they put in the best materials available making a stay in it a luxurious experience - granite counters, stainless appliances, marble bathrooms etc. The condo was spotless when we arrived and we were happy to see that the photos on the lisiting didn't do it justice - it was far more spacious in reality than in the pictures. It was a great place to return to after a long day of sightseeing and to sit around the living room to enjoy a glass or two of wine. The location is perfect. The house is across the street from Hominy Grill for great meals - eat in or take out (get biscuits for breakfast in house.) Just a 1/2 block away is a great Italian place, Lana. Do try to take it in. Delicious pizza at Mio Pomidori is just next to Lana. Also hit Wild Flour Pastry within a 5 minute walk - you will be lucky if you are there on a Sunday for their incredible cinammon rolls. The free trolley to downtown leaves from about 1/2 a block away but if you have your own car you are only 5 minutes from downtown. Many thanks to co-owner Truman who was our main contact. He was charming, friendly and helpful. When the Comcast agent accidentally disconnected our internet whilst connecting another condo's internet Truman was immediately on the issue even sending us texts when he was between the wedding ceremony and reception of a neighbor of his. Do check out the other Rutledge Ave. Inn accommodations. There are three 2 bedroom units and a one bedroom unit in the original house. But the owners have also built a wonderful 2 bedroom cottage right next door - it is fabulous! Many thanks to Truman, John, Duncan! We hope to return soon.Recommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

The listing description was accurate regarding the location, layout, amenities, etc. It was a great stay, unfortunately we only stayed a night but if we ever go back to Charleston we will stay here again. The property was clean, and it was well-maintained. Newly built showers and kitchen, clean bed sheets and even good quality hangers. I am so glad I chose to stay here instead of a hotel, cause its almost the same price and yet the bed we used was firm as we like... most hotel beds are soft and awful for my back but this house has firm and nice beds. We only stayed overnight, so I didn't get a chance to use the kitchen but it has everything you need and more. There is a parking lot at the back, and a spot reserved for the house, so you don't have to worry about parking, and there is always plenty of space on the street too. Duncan is very quick on replies and we were welcomed by Truman who provided good customer service, gave us maps, explained what is where and nearby restaurants etc. I would highly recommend this property to a friend or relative. Hominy Grill is right across the street, so its very convinient if you want to head there anytime and ahead of time before it opens and that a long line builds up in the front ;)Did you find this review helpful? Immaculate gem in the heart of Charleston. Lovely, recently renovated condo close to Hominy Grill and several other restaurants. The photos, as we told the owner, don't do it justice. Very spacious and comfortable, and the linens and sheets were luxurious. Fully equipped kitchen, which we didn't use because of all the great places to eat, but nice to know that cooking was an option. Couldn't have been happier.Did you find this review helpful? Terrific place. Newly renovated spotless bungalow in an up and coming area of town. Walking distance to the College of Charleston, and a block away from the free DASH trolley which takes you to King Stree and all the tourist sites. The inside of the place is more spacious than it appears on photographs, and we were very comfortable. Plush linens and towels were a nice touch. The owner is very friendly and accomodating. We intend to come and stay again!Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Annette, You are an angel! Thank you so much for taking the time to write that wonderful review. These are important for my business here. I do look forward to seeing you here again. Duncan

What a treat! We loved out stay at the Rutledge Inn. It was perfectly located, a real 'neighborhood' feel, and walking distance to most everything. The restoration of this charming home has been expertly done. It was clean, stocked, and comfortable. I would recommend it to all . . . and hope to be back ourselves! We had read restaurant reviews prior to going to Charleston that recommended the Hominy Grill. What a surprise to find it right across the street! Duncan was most helpful in answering all our questions and responding to all our needs. Thanks you!Owner response: Thank you for your kind words and please return anytime you can! Duncan

The listing was accurate regarding the location, apartment layout, amenities, etc. It was beautifully equipped with modern appliances, dishes, cutlery, etc. We had breakfeast "in" every morning and made good use of the kitchen. The apartment was clean and well maintained. The owner met us as scheduled on our day of arrival and was quite pleasant and knowledgeable about the area...and willing to share his knowledge. Very customer oriented. We truly enjoyed the apartment vs. a hotel. The neighborhood was adequately quiet...certainly nothing to disturbe the residents. It also appeared to be a safe area to be in during the evening hours - there were always people walking around. We look forward to re visiting this property. We visit Charleston 1-2 times years and have done so for about 18 years. This is the first time in an apartment vs some of the better hotels. Odds are we'll be back.Did you find this review helpful?
