Finca Las Nueces has been restored from its ruined state five years ago and offers real comfort in a stunning location in traditional Andalucia by the banks of the Rio Genal where otters, kingfishers and African bee-eater birds are seen.
With a private pool and contemporary kitchen, bathrooms and living areas, this villa offers a taste of real Spain, peace and tranquility plus stunning views of Sierra Crestellina and Serrania de Ronda. But is only a short drive to the Costa del Sol, it's Blue Flag beaches, shops, supermarkets and restaurants, plus all the facilities and buzz of Mediterranean Spain.
Even with its hideaway location the villa is in easy reach of all facilities and sights of this special part of Andalucia, the Mediterranean coast, and two international airports Malaga and Gibraltar.
It takes about 12 minutes to reach the village of Gaucin with its shops, supermarkets, bars and restaurants. The Costa del Sol is within easy driving distance, as are Sotogrande, Marbella and Gibraltar. Seville, Ronda, Jerez, Granada and Tarifa (a surfer's paradise) and stunning villages (Pueblos Blancos) make fantastic day trips, and Morocco is a short ferry crossing from Algeciras or Tarifa
When we bought Las Nueces in 2005 it was a dilapidated ruin used by a local shepherd for his flock of sheep. Now you'll find a gracious Spanish house (cortijo) renovated in a simple contemporary style with all modern facilities, a fully fitted kitchen, private pool with mountain and riverside views where you can just lie back, stretch out, relax and drink in the beautiful scenery.
One kilometre off the main road to Gaucin along a rural track, Las Nueces is a tranquil oasis – one guest described it as ‘Zen like’. At night with the moon rising over the mountains, the sky and stars are amazing – no light pollution here. If you enjoy star gazing bring a pair of binoculars.
With three large bedrooms, all en-suite, it comfortably accommodates up to six guests. Free WIFI broadband and free-to-view UK satellite TV are included.
Finca Las Nueces provides a relaxed home from home atmosphere with a large modern fully equipped kitchen and a wonderful double height entrance hall leading to a large galleried vaulted living room which comfortably seats 10.
Las Nueces has been designed with comfort and easy living in mind. The neutral decoration with cream ceramic tiles throughout is combined with traditional Spanish features to provide a ‘laid back’ relaxing style. In keeping with the owner’s taste the house is beautifully furnished in a minimalist style echoing the simplicity of the Andalucian pueblo blanco (white village) architecture.
On arrival there’s plenty of parking space. You enter the house through the traditional handmade Andalucian double front door into the vaulted entrance hall with living and dining areas leading off. All ground floor rooms have access to the south facing and pool terraces – and of course those wonderful riverside and mountain views.
The double-height living room is furnished with comfortable white sofas and chairs seating 10 with side and coffee tables and UK free to view satellite TV.
To the left of the entrance hall is the dining area. This has a fireplace, two Colonial-style easy chairs, a drinks table and a large teak dining table with six comfortable rattan dining chairs, and access to the south-facing sun terraces overlooking the garden and pool.
Leading from the dining area is the modern well equipped kitchen with granite worktops and teak cabinets, a gas hob and a double-width electric oven. There’s a fridge freezer, double sink, dishwasher and utility area with washing machine, iron and ironing board. All the other usual kitchen equipment and appliances are available plus of course glasses, cutlery and crockery. There is also a guest cloakroom with a shower, WC and hand basin which leads directly to the pool terrace.
Upstairs there are three large en-suite bedrooms all with fabulous views.
The master bedroom is at the end of a nine-metre gallery overlooking the living room and has a king-size double bed, built in wardrobes and a large en-suite bathroom with full size bath, double basins, large shower and WC, plus great views of Sierra Crestellina and Bermeja.
Guest bedroom two has a double bed, built in wardrobes, and the bathroom has a full size bath with overhead shower, hand basin and WC.
Guest bedroom three has twin beds, built in wardrobes and en-suite shower, hand basin and WC.
Las Nueces is surrounded by three acres of landscaped terraced and wild natural garden leading to the Genal river where you can swim in one of Andalucia’s cleanest rivers.
The south facing terraces on three levels have those wonderful views plus comfortable rattan easy chairs, large drinks table – and help yourselves to the seasonable fruit, tomatoes and herbs if available. Why not?
The pool terrace faces south and east and is furnished with sun loungers and charcoal BBQ. The sparkling blue pool is approximately 12x8m and slopes to about 1.80m at the deep end. Pool cleaning is included.

The house is simply stunning and set in a very tranquil spot down a bumpy lane, but don't let that put you off its well worth the trip. We were met and shown round by the owner who made us feel very welcome and was on hand should we need any local advice. We had the most tranquil time imaginable and will not forget our dinners on the terrace as the sun went down. The area around the house and the local village of Gaucin is beautiful. No question we will go there again.Recommended for: Girls getaway, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.

We have just returned from two glorious weeks at the villa and found it amazing. The accommodation is second to none with all mod cons and very luxurious and clean. The pool is big enough for family fun and there's lots of space around about for kids to play and explore. Off the beaten track so very tranquil and private but with a twenty minute drive to the nearest town and beach. There are very picturesque villages closer by worth exploring. English owner lives next door and was a great help with any queries we had, nothing was too much trouble.Recommended for: Age 55+, adventure seekers, families with teenagers.

We’ve just returned from a week at this magnificent house and would highly recommend it to anyone seeking beauty, relaxation and peace. Las Neucas is in an idyllic, tranquil setting, very much off the beaten track. From the toll road, the road bends and climbs through wonderful hills. You then turn off to the beginning of a rough track to the house - an imposing property in an oasis of calm. The house is extremely spacious, filled with light and stylishly but simply decorated. It has three comfortable ensuite bedrooms and a vast, open-plan ground floor which includes two living areas, and a large, fully equipped and functional kitchen. The kitchen leads on to one of the terraces and the essential swimming pool. Just the right size for swimming a few lengths or simply dipping in, to cool off from time to time. We loved the breathtaking scenery which is visible from every window. Tall palms, giant aloe, bamboo and many other exotic trees and plants are a haven for myriad birds. The owner was very helpful in pointing out places of interest. We enjoyed driving up to nearby Gaucin for breakfast or tapas, and further north up the winding roads to the rugged and beautiful Ronda, which has the oldest bullring in Spain. Venturing farther afield, we explored coastal towns such as Sotogrande and Estepona, where we spent an afternoon on the beach. However, we always looked forward to returning to Las Neucas, to lounge around the pool by day or have a meal on the terrace in the evening, occasionally looking up at the starry sky and taking in the wonderful chorus of frogs and cicadas. A great place for a great holiday!Recommended for: Girls getaway, age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, families with teenagers.

What a glorious week we spent at this beautifully appointed and well equipped villa. Dips in the inviting pool whilst enjoying the spectacular views and scenery. Romantic starry nights dining out on the verandas. A trip to Ronda for some culture and visits to the local bars in Gaucin a must. It is so quiet and peaceful and lots of cool space in the villa to have a little siesta. Owner very helpful guiding us to great restaurants and places of interest. Highly recommended.Recommended for: Girls getaway, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with teenagers.

While visiting Spain I was lucky enough to have the opportunity of staying at Gaucin. I needed a quiet retreat and I could not have asked for a more private and relaxing property than this. I woke up everyday to stunning views that started the day off right! Another fond memory is driving up to the Little White Village for Coffee and traditional Spanish Breakfast only to return to the Villa concluding the afternoon laying in the Hot Spanish Sun and taking a dip in the pool! The Owner is more than accommodating and helped me schedule and plan my time. She is very familiar with the area and had many suggestions of how to spend my time. I would definitely return and suggest staying here to anyone. I think it would be a great location to spend with Family or a group of close friends!Recommended for: Girls getaway, pet owners, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, families with teenagers.

I stayed at Las Nueces on 2 occasions last year and will certainly be going back. The location is fabulous for those who appreciate peace and tranquility. The views are stunning and the house and facilities are first class. Lying on the loungers by the pool gazing at the star-studded sky was a nightly treat, no light pollution here!!! The owners were extremely welcoming and full of tips on where to visit, where to eat etc. which was very useful. A very pleasant experience all round.Recommended for: Pet owners, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, families with teenagers.
