This was a great place that was perfectly located for our 3 day ski vacation. The house was cute and cozy and the kids loved the upstairs... as did the parents! There is more room than you think and the neighborhood is great. Awesome opportunity to play in the snow right behind the cabin. We were 10 minutes to the Sierra Parking lot which made our three days of skiing less exhausting. Overall, we had a great time and we will be back!Owner response: So glad you had a great time and loved the cabin. Can't wait to have you and family back!

We rented this cabin for a ski vacation and had the best time. The owner is very thorough in her communication and gives you all the details way ahead so that you are prepared for your stay. She even stayed on the phone as we had difficulty locating the cabin in the dark. Cabin itself is very cozy and very clean, can't wait to go back again!!! Valerie, you are the best!!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: So glad you had such a positive experience! We aim to make sure our guests are comfortable and our cabin is clean. It means so much to us that you would like to return! Can't wait to have you and your family back.

We literally needed a vacation from our vacation. A week earlier my partner and I were on individual vacations. I was enjoying Walt Disney World, while he was in Australia. We were both exhausted and needed some real relaxation time. We never travel on holiday weekends, but decided to take a chance on a cabin rental over Labor Day. I found Valierie's ad on VRBO and knew this was the place for us. We scored a great rate for a last-minute rental of this wonderful cabin in the Strawberry/Twin Bridges area, located about 20 minutes from the "Y" in South Lake Tahoe. This was not intended to be a Tahoe trip. We do those every year. We just wanted to relax and recharge. Valerie's cabin was just the trick. I love being surrounded by tall pine trees, and this place seems to be built right between them. The cabin was very comfortable. I spent most of my time on the front porch, enjoying the fresh air and the peace. Yes, you can hear some of the cars off in the distance, but living in the Bay Area, this could hardly be described as noise. The cabin's well-stocked kitchen is always a welcome sight for a traveller. The bathroom was a great size, and the main bedroom was very comfortable (loved the comforter). We only looked at the upstairs loft, which was spacious and could accomodate several other guests. But since there were only two of us, we never used that area. The living room was also very comfortable, with satellite tv, which was a very nice touch. I even lit a fire on our first night in the firplace. The only problem was the ladder that leads to the loft is smack dab in the middle of the living/dining area, with the dining table next to it. This makes that space a bit congested, but we managed just fine. We walked to Strawberry Lodge for dinner on Saturday, which was surprisingly good. Spent part of Sunday driving and hiking around and the rest of the time chilling out at the cabin. Thank you Valerie for sharing your wonderful property with us. We will absolutely return the next time our travel plans take us to that wonderful area.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing, age 55+.

We were looking for a quiet cabin near hiking trails and with access with Lake Tahoe without the traffic congestion and people and found this offering. The owner is prompt replying to inquiries and eager to answer any questions. All arrangements went smoothly and as agreed. The location is one road off of Hwy 50 near Strawberry Lodge. You can hear highway noise in the master bedroom, but there is little traffic after 10pm, so it did not interfere with sleep (we had windows closed). We ate dinner one night at the Lodge and food was better than expected with generous proportions. Convenience store at Strawberry is minimal. The photos are accurate and complete. Living room with satellite TV/DVD, modern kitchen, and modern bathroom in a remodeled cabin filled with wood paneling. Of course, any remodel has quirks--careful of the floor grate and the loft ladder just inside the entry door. We didn't use the loft area. The kitchen is the best equipped we've had in a VRBO. Not only enough dishes, pots, pans, and silverware, but also small appliances, paper towels, dish soap, etc. We only cooked breakfast and used the refrigerator, but we could have prepared entire meals, though the shopping would need to come from Placerville from the west or South Lake Tahoe from the east.Recommended for: Adventure seekers.

We so enjoyed our vacation here last month that we returned for a shorter stay last weekend and were once again impressed with the care and thoughtfulness that the owner has invested in this immaculate, cozy yet spacious Twin Bridges cabin, including having acted on our suggestion to add another reading light for the living room. We arrived exhausted--and in that state noted the two down sides to the otherwise perfect location of the property (for this reason only, shifted from five to four stars): there is no lake or mountain view from which one can vicariously enjoy nature when attacked by inactivity and there are no trails in walking distance if an easy stroll is what comes to mind. That said, magic awaits just a ten minute drive away and we did not notice this lack in a more energetic state a month ago. Our experience left us with several tips for the late rising and/or lazy. The beginning of the Echo Lake trail (the part where the boat taxi is not available) is a good and free way to acclimate to the altitude if you arrive tired, late or both. It's flat and pretty. The next day we slept very late and did not leave the house until almost 4. We were glad we had brought the portable speakers for our iPods. When we finally ventured into the world, we return to Echo Lake, where we took the boat taxi then walked a mile to Tamarack Lake, where we had a wonderful time swimming surrounded by mountains and forest with a water temperature close to perfect (invigoratingly fresh and cool, but warm enough so you could stay in forever. We hiked back out all the way through both Echo Lakes, doing the last part in the dark (had brought headlamps) and were back in the parking lot at 9pm. It was a wonderful way to spend the day. We will definitely return, if not next month then next season.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children, age 55+.
Owner response: Dear Carol, It was great to have you two back a second time this year! I am so glad you had another great get-away. I do have some suggestions on a few local hikes - some are a bit of a walk. But I would recommend the Pony Express Train, Coty Lake (which you have done and loved) and Pyramid Peak. In fact, on your next visit, I will make sure my house cleaner, who is also an avid hiker, gives you the inside track to some close and great trails. Thanks for another great review. You have been a delight. Can't wait to have you back!

We are just back from a five night stay in Valerie's wonderfully located cabin just two blocks off route 50 near Twin Bridges on the way to Lake Tahoe. We were close to trails from Echo Lake and Wrights Lake, only 20 minutes away from a knockout supermarket in South Lake Tahoe and the cabin itself was lovely. The pictures do not do it credit. It is immaculate and in good taste throughout, with a fully equipped and well-laid out kitchen, a charming cozy bedroom downstairs and two bedroom areas in an upstairs loft. The bed and bedding were first class, there were hooks conveniently located everywhere, and although we noticed noise from the road on the front deck, inside the cabin and in the deck area behind the building, all was peaceful and private. Valerie, the owner, was both knowledgable and kind. We would recommend the property to anyone and already have. We especially loved swimming in Lake Aloha and Lake of the Woods. We would NOT recommend the peach pie at Strawberry Lodge, found the convenience store in walking distance both convenient and well-staffed, but for full fledged shopping go to Raleys in South Lake Tahoe.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children, age 55+.
Owner response: I am so glad you enjoyed your stay at our cabin! We are looking forward to you and your husband returning in August to enjoy the local lakes and hikes!

Just back from a quick ski trip. Valerie was very helpful in making this last minute booking work. The cabin was comfortable and very reasonably priced. Only 10 minutes to Sierra at Tahoe ski resort! The vintage cabin was clean, with an updated bath. Though we didn't cook, the kitchen seemed well stocked.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children.
Owner response: Thanks for the favorable review! So glad you had a great ski weekend getaway in our cabin! Hope to have you back in the years to come!

We all loved this cabin! Our family has rented quite a few properties in California and Hawaii and this is the first one that has more than pleased everyone in the group. There was something for everyone. We are five people, three generations ranging from age 10 to 75. The cabin has lots of games and outdoor play area for the kids... cozy (yet roomy) living/lounge areas... pretty and clean decor... a wonderfully equipped kitchen... fresh and abundant bedding and towels... easy access to and from the highway... close to Sierra at Tahoe Ski Ranch. The owner was easy to communicate with and a super nice person. We will definitely be back, looking forward to visiting here the three other seasons!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children, age 55+.

The details in the above listing capture the essence of this cabin. It is rustic, simple, but it was very comfortable for my family of 5. My wife and children ages 10, 12, and 14 all loved the cabin. We love to ski at Sierra at Tahoe but as most of you know this has not been a snow year. In lieu of skiing we opted to embark on several beautiful day hikes in the area. One of the more adventurous hikes went past Echo Lake up to Aloha Lake and back. We had New Years Eve dinner at the Strawberry Lodge which was also treat for us as well. The kitchen was amazingly well stocked with all sorts of essential items such as olive oil and seasonings. The cabin was welcoming when we arrived, The fireplace insert worked very nicely and added to the cozy atmosphere. The owner was VERY responsive to our questions related to the cabin prior to our arrival. I would recommend this cabin to any couple or to families with older children (6+). The neighborhood was quite and the neighbors were friendly. We intend to return to this cabin later in the winter. Hope it snows a lot before we get there :-)Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thanks so much for the great review. I hope future guests enjoy their stay at our cabin as much as you and your family have. We are looking forward to your upcoming visits!
