The cabin sits 100 metres from a great beach in a private off the road garden setting at the edge of the jungle. We are 3 km from town centre, a $1 taxi ride or an easy 15 minute bike ride. We are conveniently located near the 'Y' in the road where it splits towards Paunch/Bluff beaches on the coast road and towards Bocas del Drago on the interior road. The 'Y' is a small community mixed with locals and ex-pats.

The cabin is 24x16 2 story. The bedrooms are upstairs seperated by a door on one room and a curtain on the other. There is also a toilet and sink upstairs. The larger bedroom has a queen size bed and new mattress with a wall fan. It looks out into various fruit trees with a filtered view to the beach. The other bedroom has a single bed with a new mattress and a wall fan. The smaller bedroom looks out into the tree tops towards the jungle. Each room has a reading light and a place to hang clothes. And some shelves to keep things as well.

Down stairs is a large tile counter kitchen with a 4 burner stove and a refrigerator. A blender, toaster and juicer as well as all the pots, pans and utensils you will need. There is a bar counter top seperating the kitchen from the dining area. Opposite of the dining area is a 8x12 living room with a couch, hammock and rocking chair. And finishing off the first floor is a small office\storage room that acts as the lockup room for your valuables. The room is more of a feel good thing for guests, in all my years living here I have not had anything go missing..(touch wood).

The bathroom is 10 feet from the front door, a bath house is what it is..It has a hot shower, tiolet, sink. We have a washing machine here we share with our guests.

All the posts and beams inside are made from round wood poles, the floors are native hardwood but unfinished. There are no windows like you may be used to, just screens to keep the bugs out. There is no AC. The house is in a relatively shady spot and the screen windows allow good air flow..On a hot sunny day the bedrooms upstairs are unpleasant from about midday until 430 or so. Downstairs stays pleasant even on a real scorcher..There is a wall fan downstairs too which adds to the freshness. You will sleep like babies here with the sound of the waves and the buzz of the jungle..It is cool at night, not hot and sweaty..

Off the front of the house is a 16x20 covered patio with a cement floor. A table and bench and chairs. The patio is surrounded by flowers, coconut and other fruit trees, palms and bananas filled with birds and butterflies. A family of howler monkeys have become regular visitors and the random sloth can be spotted. I keep chickens in a coop NO ROOSTER!! I have a dog and a cat as well. I also have a large green house and veggie garden which I share with our guests. We live simply and try to keep expenses and impact down riding bikes and growing food.

I live accross a small creek on the same property and am happy to help our guests as needed. I can help you to arrange tours, rent bikes, scuba trips, etc. and make suggestions about all there is to do and see in the islands and elsewhere in Panama. I am a 10 year resident of Bocas.

I hope to attract guests who will appreciate the house in its natural setting. Photographers, bird watchers, gardeners, musicians, divers, surfers, etc..Bocas is gifted with such a rich diversity of plant, animal and night life.. Come enjoy it with us.

If someone has a special skill set I will consider work trades to mutually benefit each other.

Please feel free to email or call me with any questions you may have. Si hablo espanol.. Gracias..

Here in my garden you will see many species and I can arrange a naturalist/bird guide to take you. He has identified over 125 species on this island alone. Our stay at Lucas' cabin was everything we thought it would be and more. The accomodations were exactly as stated in the property description and the kitchen had everything a good cook would hope for except a garlic press and a wisk. The grounds that the cabin is situated on are beautiful and we enjoyed the fresh herbs and vegetables that were growing at the time and that Lucas so generously shared with us. The howler monkeys woke us every morning but never came down to see us. We enjoyed watching the many birds that Lucas helped identify. The area was quiet and peaceful but close enough to town to enjoy the restaurants and night life. Lucas had some bikes that we were able to ride around which added to our experience. We are very grateful to Lucas for helping make our Panama experience an excellent one and for introducing us to many interesting people we hope to visit in the future when we go back to see Lucas, as we are certain we will do soon. Lucas, we will certainly be in touch! Cheers!

Owner response: Thanks for the great review!! It was a real pleasure to meet you guys. The howlers came the week after you left and spent 2 nights right out the bedroom window. I will complete the kitchen with the press and whisk..Looking fwd to your next visit. Hasta Pronto!!

Stayed 4 nights here and loved every second. The host was terrific and very helpful. Played ping pong and stayed up late telling stories and jokes. The house is in a great location - just out of reach of the hustle bustle from the main town, but a quick 7 minute bike ride if needed. Sandy beach is a 5 minute walk, and behind the house is a road that leads to lush forests - a great bike ride. Very peaceful and quiet setting for some tranquility. thanks for the memories!

I stayed here a week. The location in Bocas is good; it is off the road and quiet, except for all the jungle sounds! It was a quick and cheap taxi ride into town, about a mile or two away. We could walk to two good swimming beaches. The main room of the house is partly open-air but completely screened, so you feel like you are “out of doors”, with great garden views. The bedrooms had GOOD beds and screened windows, complete with shutters. All rooms have fans. I thought the woodworking and the floors (wood or tile) were great. The pictures are accurante. It is a fine place to stay in Bocas.

Beautiful house situated within a colorful garden attracting everything from humming birds to monkeys, I love to take pictures and I didn't even have to leave the property to take some of the best pictures from my hole stay in panama. Lucas was the perfect host and his local knowledge was priceless. If you want to make the most out of your stay while in Bocas then I recommend staying here, we did alot of biking/walking around and nothing came close at this price! I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Bocas now I know about this place. Thank you Lucas for an awesome time and being the perfect host!

I just spent ten incredible days here. The house was clean, quiet and well equipped. The beds are really comfortable. Everything is new. Everything worked. Fans in each room keep the rooms nice and cool. The only sounds were the waves on the shore, hundreds of exotic birds and the family of howler monkeys who pass through. Lucas was completely available and knowledgeable about the wildlife, the local culture and places to go. His place borders a world famous botanical garden, almost an extension of it. He arranged for boat tours, kayaking and secured for me a bike. It is easy to get to town and the beach is just steps away. Perfect location. Taxis run all the time. Cheap.i felt completely safe as a woman traveling alone. I would highly recommend this lovely house to all my friends. So affordable and you get so much. A memorable stay in a perfect garden paradise.

                      Owner info

                      Year Purchased: 2005

About the owner: I am a west coast gringo who had sailed the caribbean for some years. I moved to Bocas 10 years ago. I felt right at home here from day 1. Sailing has given way to island life, building up my place, gardening and music.

Why the Owner Chose Bocas del Toro:
I bought the land and built the house myself. It was ideal for me being close enough to the center to ride a bike yet far enough out that you don't feel the busy pace of town. The large lot gave me room to plant and grow ornamentals and food.

The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
The sounds of the waves crashing and the songs of the birds at day break. We are at the edge of the jungle so the colorful garden pulls in countless birds and a family of howler monkeys have become regular visitors. We share the bounty of the garden with our guests. Lots of coconut trees too so you can drink real coconut water. We have a rain catchment tank that we drink from so no need to buy bottled water. And of course the ping pong table..
