Conveniently located near popular area attractions and outdoor activities, Fern Creek Cabins offer year round, affordable vacation lodging in the beautiful mountains of southern West Virginia. Our cabins sit on 40 private acres of pristine hemlock forrest near the north rim of the New River Gorge National River..
For those who just want to relax, Fern Creek Cabins offers plenty of space to roam about the property. Our cabins have comfortable porches equipped with grills and hot tubs, outdoor fire pits, and lots of beautiful yard space for throwing horseshoes or playing softball. The one room cabin also has access to a sauna.
Fern Creek Cabins is the perfect setting for an outdoor reception whether you’re having a small group or a large gathering. There is plenty of room to set up tables or canopies for food, music, or whatever your occasion calls for.
We welcome well behaved pets, we are equine friendly, and we ask our guests to not smoke in our cabins.
While our 2 cabin's share the peaceful seclusion of the Appalachians, it is but a few short miles over New River Gorge Bridge to downtown Fayetteville, named 'Coolest Small Town in America.' Come visit, and take a walk around. You’ll find a vibrant shopping district and fantastic restaurants, windows to browse with lots to buy, and a lovely town park.
'Endless Wall Trail' lies a mile around the corner which tours one of the wonders of the New River Gorge -- the unbroken cliffline known as the Endless Wall, which follows the rim of the gorge and offers access to dozens of bolted climbing routes. Breathtaking panoramas await hikers as the trail leads along the top of the cliffs through gnarled pines, mossy boulders, and rhododendron thickets.

It was a quaint little cabin. My daughter and I enjoyed our two nights. We saw deer and wild turkeys. Our only problem was that the hot tub was not hot on Saturday night. It was great on Friday night, but on Saturday it was too cold to stay in it. We had it turned up to 104, but it never got really warm. It was damp, windy, and cold so maybe it was just too cold to heat up. We had fun anyway.Recommended for: Girls getaway.

The cabin is even more delightful than the photos show. It might not quite be up to 3 star standards, but everything was clean and mostly in good repair, and it has LOTS of character as well as being comfortable and practical. You have to be willing to drive a ways on 2-way one lane roads -- we didn't have to find out what one does if one encounters another vehicle on the road -- both paved and unpaved; but it feels all the more magical when you get there. Alas, the horses spoken of by other reviewers are gone, but the setting remains bucolic. There are both front and back porches, with plenty of furniture for enjoying them (including of course, a hanging swing.) The hot tub seems incongruous among all this old W Va character; but we loved using it! We took the owner's recommendation and used the nearest rafting outfitter (very near indeed!) and were glad we did: we liked their smallness, and they provided safety, courtesy, and a FABULOUS rafting trip (and clean hot showers afterwards!) The following day we hiked the "endless wall" trail, and the trailhead is also very near the cabin. This was a 3 mile loop -- 1/2 mile on the road from one trailhead to another and 2 1/2 miles on the trail itself back to the car. The trail goes to many wonderful overlooks over the New River Gorge -- we even saw rafters WAY down below as well as a train going by; and look for the place with the ladders going all the way down into the gorge! We really enjoyed our brief stay in Fayetteville (2 nights), and the Fern Creek cabin was one of the best parts of our visit.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Sorrry to read the Florida review I've stayed at this property numerous times, always have my dogs actually 3 of the most rambunctious ever. Along with my niece and nephews. Wonderful secluded off the beaten path property never a worry. For the children or the dogs. If your animals are not used to horses then be a responsible pet Owner and pay close attention to them along with your children. after all they are large animals. If your looking for a peaceful retreat this is the property for you with 2 cabins family or friends to have a wonderful get away or family reunion. As for bees yes there are bees but that is all apart of mother nature. Without bees we wouldn't have honey. These are Jenny Lynn style board and batten cabins think about it based on the weather each year depends upon how bad the bees are this is anywhere. If you aren't into mother nature and don't like the weather or insects that she produces well then maybe you should live in a bubble or be prepared for the type of vacation that you plan. Always carry Benadryl if you have allergies to the outdoors. Mother nature is a wonderful thing when we are prepared.... Especially in wild wonderful wv..!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We stayed in the two-room cabin recently for a sibling/cousin getaway. The listing was very accurate and the cabin was charming, well stocked, and maintained. The cabins are close to all the activities we were interested in. We hiked the Endless Wall Trail, zip lined, and rafted on the New River. The hottub was great to come home to after zip lining and we also enjoyed quiet time sitting on the back porch and front porch swing. We were here during the big windstorm so lost power but the cabin was stocked with hurricane lamps and candles...we sat around in the candlelight telling stories and reminiscing. I saw in another review that someone mentioned bees. There were some bees flying around but no one was stung and they didn't bother us-just something to be aware of this time of year if you are allergic to bees. The owners were great-very helpful with suggestions for activities and dining. I highly recommend Pies and Pints. The whole trip was a great adventure....I can't wait to go back.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

If you’re looking for a reasonably priced rental this is it. It’s not luxurious, but it satisfied most of my needs. There is a fully equipped kitchen (no dishwasher), plenty of room for guests, and a clothes washer. There is also a functioning hot tub. I do feel the property needs more upkeep. These are some of the problems I noted: 1. Hornet nests in the roof on the back porch. I couldn’t sit out on the porch because there were so many. They need to be exterminated. It could be a problem if someone is allergic. 2. No satellite TV. There is a CD player, which is fine as long as you remember to bring movies. 3. The horses. Yes they are adorable, but they are dangerous. I was a nervous wreck while my kids were outside. I had to constantly keep an eye on them. Having grown up around horses, I know how mean they can be. Unfortunately, my little dog slipped under the fence and the big horse went crazy stomping him. The dog’s mouth was badly fractured and had to be wired in place. Peggy was very helpful assisting me with this incident. However, be aware that the vets in the area do not see out of state dogs in the summer months. An exception was made for my dog. I think guests should be made aware of the dangers of these animals. Please watch your children and pets closely.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: Note: With so many mentioning the bees we hired an exterminator and he guarantees no bees for a year! As for the horses, they belong to the previous owner and will be moved from the property. Tom

Very nice cabin in the hills of WV, had a super time. The cabin was clean, and well maintained. Keep in mind though that it is a cabin, not a condo, not that this point bothered us, as we have a cabin in the mountains of Pa. just stating a fact. Only problem we found, was HORNETS, a ton of them, but Skip from New and Gauley River Outfitters, was kind enough to try to help us take care of that problem. I would highly recommend the cabins to anyone who may be looking for a mountain get away, or river trip. We went horseback riding with Skip, and I would have to say, if anyone has a chance to sit by a fire with him in the evening, don't pass the chance up, probably one of the top ten most interesting people I've ever met in my life. We also took an 18 mile river trip, and I can tell you, even though the weather was warm, that hot tub felt great at the end of the days journey. Tom (the owner) was great to work with, answered all my questions, and eased any concerns I had. If I was ever planing on going back to the area, I wouldn't look at any other place. For those folks considering renting the cabin, plese know that there is a Super Wal-Mart about 6 miles away, so you can pick up all your groceries there, very handy. If you enjoy nature, take the time to make the trip, you won't be disappointed. Mike~`Erie,Pa.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.

I've stayed twice now at the Fern Creek property. This second time I rented the larger cabin and found it to be comfortable, spacious, inviting and well-appointed--just like the smaller cabin beside it. Our family gathers each year in this little corner of paradise to reminisce about our WV childhood and explore the region. Fern Creek is ideally located for our needs. We golfed, hiked, shopped, swam, and visited other relatives--all without having to drive more than a few miles. The best part of this rental is that, though it's very handy for enjoying the outdoors activities around it, the meadow itself is so quiet and remote that you'd think you were the only folks in the whole county! The smell of the wild roses, the dark red interior of the living room, the song of the mocking bird, the occasional sighting of a jake turkey or a yearling fawn, the blanket of stars overhead at night, the distant echo of the train down in the gorge, the peeping of the tree frogs down by the pond, the porch swing, the screen doors... All these little details remind me of my Grandmother's home, her simple lifestyle. Even if you come to Fayette County to raft or rock climb, you will appreciate the luxury of the stress-free, non-technical, slower pace of living at Fern Creek.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children.

We had a wonderful time at the small cabin last month, and are really looking forward to a stay in the larger cabin this upcoming weekend. This trip, we'll be hitting the links over at Fayetteville, as well as taking several hikes in the area. This is the birthplace of our parents. My cousins and I spent many happy days with our grandparents in the hills and dales of Fayette County, WV, and we enjoy convening together there whenever we can. Your cabins remind me of where our grandmother lived, with its serene locale and country charm. Thank you, GwynDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Tom, Everyone had a wonderful time during our stay at your cabin. It was the first time for all of us (with the exeption of 1) to stay in a cabin, having marshmellows at the firepit, whitewater rafting, etc. We all agreed this is one of the highlights of our lives!:-) It is something we will never forget and definitely we plan to come back again. In addition, I've already referred your company to a couple of my friends. Thank you for accomodating us, including our dog Sydney. We plan to stay there again for our future outdoor adventure plans to WV next year. Sincerely, PamelaDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0
