Best birthday present!
Best birthday present!
Truly enjoyed our 2 week stay. Loved location and the layout of the house. Photos on line were what we expected and the house was very clean and maintained. Got beautiful pictures of sunrises and sunsets and also found ourselves cooking in because of the wonderful view from the dining room. Would definitely consider renting again if we remain in good health. Loved the new deck and wonderful shade tree. First time renting a house since we had been rver's and found this house to be perfect for our vacation. Hope to be back in 2014. Have a happy, healthy New Year!

We loved staying in this comfortable home w/ great deck/patio area right on the beach. The location was perfect and house is equipped w/ everything we needed . Management & owner were responsive to our questions. We hope to return frequently.

Manager response: Thanks! We're glad you liked the deck. The contractors completed it only the day before you moved in! It's made of Cumaru wood ("Brazilian Teak"), a renewable resource that will age to a warm grey over time. I hope we'll see you again, soon. Larry and Rebecca
Our review of Sea Mist Cottage, Ft Myers Beach, FL
Our review of Sea Mist Cottage, Ft Myers Beach, FL
We enjoyed our stay at the Sea Mist Cottage however there were several things that should have been corrected prior to our arrival. We were given a form from Caldwell Banker to complete showing items that were in disrepair and these included a very loose kitchen faucet, the dining room blind that did not work, and the TVs in the LR and DR that were not working. The faucet was fixed on Monday but it was later in the week before we had TV usage. The DR blind was not repairable and it was not replaced and this obstructed our view of the ocean when at the dining table. The bottom lock on the kitchen door should be replaced as one of us unknowingly locked it on our way out and when we returned we were locked out of the house. CB did not have a key to the lock but fortunately we were able to get into the porch facing the ocean and into the house through a window. As stated earlier we did enjoy the easy access to the beach and the beautiful sunsets. The items mentioned above should be checked prior to future rentals.

Manager response: Mildred, I am sorry we weren't fully able to meet all your expectations. The cable TV controllers were bad and it took one day to replace one and two days to get the other one working (the Comcast office is off the beach and sometimes their technical advice doesn't work, so we have to make extra trips to get replacement equipment). Moving along, you were the first person to have an accidental lock-out and we have taken your advice and changed the kitchen door hardware so this can't happen again. Finally, the man who came to do the kitchen faucet was supposed to fix the blind. When he could not fix it, he failed to tell the office there was still a problem. We didn't know. Since receiving your review, both the blind and the handyman have been replaced! I am happy these things didn't ruin your vacation, and if you'll try us again, both the manager and I will personally make sure you have the best visit possible. Thanks for your feedback, Larry
Relaxing Vacation on the Beach
Relaxing Vacation on the Beach
The property was in great shape. Location was situated nicely on the beach with areas of sun and shade. The kitchen provided all the essentials and we ate nearly all our meals at the house. Suggestions for improvement include providing enough essentials for a week, for example laundry detergent and paper towels. Also, would like to see a more prompt repayment of the deposit.

Manager response: Hi Kyle, It sounds like you had a good vacation with just a couple of issues. Let me try to address them. First, we try to make sure you don't arrive tired from travel to find there is no soap, toilet paper, etc. But beyond having some supplies on hand for your arrival, this is a housekeeping cottage and the guest is responsible for these supplies through the stay. I wish we could know in advance what every guest would use, but we can't. Regarding the deposit, I don't have control over this; the management company does. The contract says that it may take up to 60 days for return of deposit. Coldwell Banker, our management company tells me this is partly because in the case of damages it may take time to assess and repair damages. Also, we often don't see movie rentals on the cable bill or excessive water usage until we get our bill from our supplier, and we don't see all the bills from our suppliers for up to a month after your stay. I wish the turnaround could be quicker and I've asked Coldwell Banker to see if they can speed it up. In the meantime, it can take up to 60 days and we do notify you of this at the time of rental. Larry
There is very little I would change about this property. It is without question one of the most enjoyable vacations I have ever had and I have been to many locations in the US, Caribbean and Mexico. You have done a commendable job in making the property feel welcoming and improved enough to add a modern feel without losing its charm. I would make sure the large pine on the gulf side gets all the care it needs. It was our shelter in rain and shine. While the pictures of the inside of the home give a good sense of the space, the isolation and view of the beach cannot be conveyed from the pictures. You have to stay here to experience it. Forget the condos, set your chairs in the sand just off your back yard!

Manager response: Thanks, John! Don't worry about the pine tree; it's not going anywhere. In fact, come October it will be shading a new 260 sq. ft. deck. We want every guest to have an enjoyable visit and we appreciate your suggestions and comments. We're especially happy you had such a good time that you've already booked for next year!
Our stay was absolutely incredible. My husband and I have rented homes in many locations, including the Cayman Islands and The Turks.....but this wonderful home in Ft. Myers was the BEST....It is hard to describe how beautiful everything was. The view from the dining area was beyond words and the sunsets were better than any in the caribbean. We were lucky to get to spend three weeks there and we would have stayed longer except it was already rented. The house is even better than the photos. We can't wait to return. By the way, if you ever want to sell your house, please call us...LOL

Charming vacation house!
Charming vacation house!
We absolutely fell in love with this house! The pictures do not do it justice. The master bedroom looks out to the ocean - what a way to wake up in the morning. The ocean is literally at your back door. The only reason we left the house all week long was to go to Publix for food. We even saw dolphins swimming one day.

Since your visit we've upgraded some bedding, added plantings and Adirondack chairs outside, refinished the dining room walls and added an iPod dock/stereo to the living room. Please keep us in mind for next year. Thanks, Larry Corson

Year Purchased: 1969
About: This picture is of my wife and me in January 2011, on the beach. We live in Dayton, Ohio. My parents bought this house in 1969 while I was away at college. I had been to the beach before, but saw the house for the first time at Christmas 1969. It has been my favorite place ever since then.
Why Private Homes, Mid Island:
My family drove through Fort Myers Beach in a truck camper in 1966, stopped for lunch and fell in love with the place. Just like that, Mom, Dad, me, my brother and sister were all looking forward to our next vacation on this beach. For the next couple of years we rented a space to park the camper on spring break, then bought this house. It wasn't meant as a rental, but my parents stopped wintering there in 2009, so we updated the house to make it an attractive place to share. The house has now passed down to my wife and I; we both love it and plan to keep it for our children, who are the third generation of our family to enjoy this comfortable old house on one of the most beautiful beaches we know. I hope you will like it as much as we do.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
I step back in time when I go here. The house was built in 1946 and it has original hardwood floors, Florida red cypress walls and a metal roof. Usually a breeze blows through the house, making the central air conditioner unnecessary from fall to spring. There's not much plastic here, no Xbox, no hot tub, no pool; just Florida as it was meant to be. Details: Yes, we have cable and Wi-fi; the kitchen is modern; a washer and dryer are included; I employ professional managers to take care of your needs while you are visiting. This is a nice place. The Publix supermarket is 1/2 mile away; restaurants and other shopping are close by. Three shopping malls, including one outlet mall, are within 30 minutes away on the mainland. In short, I have tried to make this home a comfortable place where you will relax and feel part of traditional Florida, without missing the essential amenities. Other houses may have swimming pools, giant marble bathrooms, tiki bars, etc. Those places cost a lot more if they have a location like ours, but they are no more fun to stay in!
