About the owner: My husband and I are both teachers. We moved here from Buffalo, NY after someone gave us an ice scraper that read 'teach at the beach'. In 1999, we attended The Great Florida Teach-In and stayed on Treasure Island during our visit. We fell in love with Treasure Island and the St. Petersburg area.
We love water sports, especially kayaking, and we grew tired of paddling around ice on Lake Erie and Ontario. We moved to Florida so we could enjoy the water all year round.
We have two children. Our daughter, Betsy, is a professional musician and is completing a graduate degree. Our son , Danny, is in 4th grade and plays Little League baseball and soccer .
Our condo offers something for both of our children. Betsy enjoys thawing out on the beach during semester breaks and Danny loves playing in the surf, building sand castles and flying kites.
We still have family and friends in Western New York and we often return there for holidays and family reunions. We miss our family, but not the snow shovels and ice scrapers.
Why the Owner Chose Treasure Island: We bought our condo on Treasure Island so that our relatives and friends would have a beautiful place to stay when they came to visit us. The condo is only ten minutes from our permanent residence on the mainland side of Boca Ciega Bay.
We feel that our condo is located on the nicest stretch of beach in Pinellas County. It is a wide beach with white sand. Palm trees adorn the dunes and seabirds are plentiful. The swimming is ideal with a sandy bottom that slopes gradually. Swimmers, young and old, enjoy walking out to the sandbar offshore.
With John Pass nearby, you see dolphin cruises, tour boats and pleasure boats coming and going through the pass.
What a wonderful place to have a digital camera! Everything is so beautiful you want to capture the images for keeps. You'll feel like a professional photographer...
The Unique Benefits at this Condo: The best thing about staying at Tropic Terrace is 'staying' there. While the location is convenient to many attractions, my favorite thing to do at Tropic Terrace is to just stay put and soak up the scenery. The sea birds are beautiful and the people on the beach are fun and friendly.
Just yesterday a man was flying over the beach in an ultralight parasail. It was a colorful sight. The week before, there was a kite festival with hundreds of kites flying overhead.
Most folks agree that sunsets on the Gulf of Mexico are spectacular and with the dunes and palms on Treasure Island the sunset is especially appealing.
My family loves having a marshmallow roast around the charcoal grill in the evening after sunset. And when you feel like hitting the town, the condo is within walking distance to John's Pass Village Shoppes and Restaurants. There is a beach trolley running up and down Gulf Blvd if you need a lift or hop in the car and you'll be there in 5 minutes or less--depending on whether the bridge is up at John's Pass. (That bridge itself is an engineering marvel.)
On patriotic holidays, you will have a front row seat to a fantastic firework display on the beach. Beach concerts often end with fireworks as well. You can enjoy the concerts from a distance. Tropic Terrace is on the quiet end of Treasure Island, but if you are looking for more excitement, it's just a short walk down the beach trail.
We have a very unique new Publix grocery store nearby with an excellent selection of fine food. Many meal items are already prepared for your convenience and enjoyment.
