Maalaea Kai is a two bedroom, two bath oceanfront condominium located in Maalaea village on the south coast of Maui. This very quiet and peaceful village, only 15 minutes away from resort towns of Kihei and Wailea on the south side. It is approximately the same distance to Lahaina and Kaanapali on the north end, and is 15 minutes from the Airport.
The unit is a central air-conditioned oceanfront condo on the third floor, 30 yards from the sea with a beautiful view of the ocean and neighbor. Accommodates up to six persons. All of the tropical decor consists of mostly bamboo furnishings.
Both bedrooms are enclosed. The master bedroom has one king size bed with a full bathroom, TV, VCR, and an oceanfront view. The second bedroom has two twin beds and a bathroom with shower.
The living room has a pull-out sofa for two persons, cocktail furniture, cocktail tables, dining table with chairs for four persons, a large counter bar with stools for two persons, TV, VCR, DVD, fax machine, telephone, and is surrounded by mirrored walls.
The spacious kitchen is fully-equipped with a dishwasher, large refrigerator with ice maker, toaster, coffee-maker, blender, oven, stove, all necessary cooking utensils, dishes, and cutlery.
The lanai has a table and chairs from where you can relax watching whales and listening to the ocean. Maalaea village has a white sandy beach which extends all the way to Kihei for your walking enjoyment.

A WONDERFUL VACATION

My husband and I chose this condo from the VRBO website. We've never rented a condo, let alone sight unseen, so we were a bit apprehensive about what we'd find. We were delighted! It was just as described in the listing - clean, quiet and well-equipped. The condo complex is well-located for snorkel trips and visits to the small gift mall at the harbor. The Hawaiian decor is very welcoming and fun, although I must admit that I would have liked a better lamp for reading.The view from the lanai is superb and the grounds are maintained extremely well. It gets windy in the late afternoon, but we cooked on the outside grill with no problem. I walked down to the Tradewinds deli every day to pick up a few snacks and look for seashells on the tiny beach next to the harbor, while my husband napped on the comfy bed! We drove to the beach every day, particularly our favorite at Kapalua, and returned to our condo sunburned and water-logged, glad to be in our home away from home. We definitely recommend the barbeque at Beach Bums - the place is a bit raucous, but the sweet potato fries are worth it (and they do takeout). The owner answered all our questions by Email and phone.Yes, consider renting this condo, but not when we're planning to go!

I travel to Maui as often as I can. I had an opportunity (airfare deal) to go for a little over 2 weeks in March. Booking this late during high season for this many nights at an oceanfront place in my budget proved to be very difficult. I had passed up this condo because of the previous review. I was concerned I would not find a nice place and sent out an email request with my dates to this owner and to other owners who did not post a calendar. This owner was the only one who had my dates available. I was still concerned because of the previous review, but the owner was so nice and always available to answer my questions, I booked the condo. As stated, the previous guest approved the location and he is correct about that. The whole place was great. The condo was clean and the kitchen was well stocked, we cooked all our meals there and ate them on the lanai.The view is outstanding, direct ocean front. We were able to see whales comfortably from our lanai and after some early morning sun, the lanai remained cool for the rest of the day. The grounds were well kept and the pool and barbeque area were cleaned daily. There is complimentary parking, each condo has an assigned stall. I have talked to people over the years who do not like Maalaea because it is too windy. I love the wind! This condo does have air conditioning, but we enjoyed the windows and sliding doors wide open with the breeses blowing thru, it was most comfortable and great for sleeping! Also, because the lanai is sheltered, we were able to play cards daily and nightly without our cards blowing away. In addition to the items listed, the owner has also provided beach towels, coolers, beach bag, beach mats and beach chairs. The kitchen is a bit dated, but I don't mind this. Everything was very clean and in good use. The decor in the living/dining room is great. Again, after reading the previous review, I was concerned. Its very retro and its perfect for Maui. The furniture is really heavy, bamboo with great retro type cushions and is very comfortable, oh and the condo also has 2 flat screen tvs. The building manager was always around and happy to answer our questions, we had absolutely no problems at this condo. There is no beach in front of the condo, but a very long beach is a short walk away to the east. There is a concrete seawall, maybe 6' tall, which greatly protected the property during the recent tsumani. I recommend this condo and hope to stay there again.
Recommended for:People with disabilities, sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, girls getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

In common with all other condo buildings here, the location is superb. However, these condos are now 25 - 30 years old. The owners maintain the landscaping and exteriors of the buildings well. Our experience in this unit would have been a disaster except for the generosity and kindness of the on site manager and neighbours. This unit is all original and the kitchen equipment is simply junk, (a new toaster and coffee pot was supplied). The bedding, although clean, was threadbare are well worn. A good supply of clean towels were available. Efforts to deal directly with the owner were a joke. There are plenty of other units to check out that have been renovated and kept up to date. We recommend the area, but not this unit.
