Kenwood estate description

Our serene, lush all useable and playful 5-acre estate in Kenwood, California, nestled inside the vineyards of the posh Chateau St. Jean Winery is called 'Raisinwood,' derived from our last names in homage to the family friendliness of our idyllic country home.

The rejuvenating calm of the fresh, invigorating countryside will engulf and transport you away from the bustle of everyday life from the moment you wind in on the rustic driveway alongside a lavender farm under towering oak trees,

A quaint wooden bridge guides you to our welcoming, sunny home surrounded by a gorgeously landscaped yard that sprawls in every direction. Tall trees and lush foliage seclude the property and hint toward the surrounding expanse of nature that include several State Parks, Nature Preserves and Bald Mountain, which towers in full view.

The unique architecture of Raisinwood highlights the connection to the outdoors with stately French doors that open directly onto the lawn and decks from bedrooms and the main living areas. Natural light pours into each room energizing the space.

Four bedrooms and three bathrooms comfortably accommodate ten guests. A luxurious Master Suite and secondary master bedroom allow for peaceful refuge. Two additional bedrooms with single and bunk bed accommodations are perfect for kids or single guests.

The fully equipped kitchen is a culinary lover’s dream with a state of the art BBQ and dining area on a deck that winds around the back of the house.

Recline in one of the several outdoor seating areas with a bottle of wine in hand from the adjacent famed winery, and you are living the California countryside dream. Staying at this house was heaven on earth. We are from the Bay Area, and my daughter was getting married at Kunde Vineyards in Sonoma Valley a hop, skip and a jump from Raisinwood. The property was a perfect location, perfect floor plan for family and a few friends to have a barbecue and relax which was potentially quite a stressful time. Preston is a fantastic "landlord." Thanks, Preston for making my extended weekend such a success. Highly recommend!

Girl weekend was a success! A group of us girls spent the weekend at this fabulous house and had a wonderful time! The house is very comfortable, clean and accommodating. We cooked several meals at the house and the kitchen was well equipped. The grounds are beautiful and extremely well kept. The house is located close to wineries and restaurants, which we visited during our stay! All and all, we loved the house and cant wait to stay there again. Thanks Preston, your the BEST!

We had an absolutely fantastic time at this wonderful home. The weather was perfect and it was like entering an outdoor activity playland when we discovered all the fun toys and things to do in the back yard. We truly loved relaxing and enjoying such a beautiful outdoor space with family and friends- we couldn't have asked for a better weekend.

Raisinwood could not have been more ideal for our far-flung family as the destination for our annual gathering. The site is remote yet within quick, easy reach of almost endless activities. The property is expansive, providing great surroundings and accommodating outdoor sports and recreation. We arranged yoga on the lawn each morning, made it to the top of nearby Bald Mountain for its great views of both Sonoma and Napa valleys, and discovered some great wines and restaurants. The home provided both privacy and connectedness, particularly for extended evening conversations (laughter-fests), and included far more in terms of space, facilities, equipment, and amenities than we could have imagined. We very much look forward to returning.

This property is stunning! A very unique setting which will keep you outside all day long. Our family stayed here for a few days and hosted some friends and family from San Francisco. Everyone enjoyed themselves (kids and adults) and still continues to talk about just how beautiful the property is. If you like the tranquility of Sonoma County, this property is spot on. Also, the property is next to a top winery and the quaint towns of Kenwood and Glenn Ellen.

Raisinwood was absolutely beautiful and an ideal weekend retreat for our girls weekend. I've taken two separate groups on two separate weekends, and all absolutely raved about the place. We could not have asked for better accommodations. The back yard is breathtaking and pool is the perfect temp and setting to completely relax. The house is expansive and was in a perfect location to walk to Chateau St. Jean and other close-by winery favorites. We enjoyed both nights at home, grilling outside, as well as venturing into downtown Sonoma for late night fun! We had masseuses come out to the property one afternoon and setup massage beds in the orchard-- a must do for anyone looking to turn the place into a spa haven! This house is pure heaven for anyone wanting to explore Sonoma. The owners are incredible- both helpful and go out of their way to ensure your stay is perfect in every way. We are already having withdrawls- and like to think this will always be our home away from home. We will definitely be coming back. Thank you!!!!

Immediately when we pulled into the driveway of this beautiful serene home, I felt so calm, relaxed, and peaceful. I truly felt as though I was somewhere in the Italian/Tuscan countryside. I'm not exaggerating by any means when I say that this property is absolutely stunning. Everything from the immaculate grounds, the flower and vegetable gardens, the beautiful pool side, expansive lawn, magnificent view of the Sugarloaf Mountain, was breathtaking. It was by far one of the best weekends of the summer. Some of my favorite highlights was reading a book while relaxing on the hammock, swimming laps in the pool (and taking in views of the trees and mountains!), and listening to Coltraine by the fire pit as we sipped our wines. The owners were so wonderful to work with, they were so caring in insuring that our stay was absolutely perfect - and it most certainly was! Once you visit Raisinwood you will see how much time, care, love, attention, and great taste the owners have put into it.

From the moment you enter the gates of this truly lovely estate, you are enveloped in a feeling of serenity. Not only is the property surrounded by hills and valleys, but it is also beautifully landscaped. The attention to detail that went into the design concept of this home is incredible. From the color palette, decor and understated elegance to the amber colored pebbles lining the orchard trees--when the sun hits them just right, they have a glow to them. Lie in the hammock, play like grown children in the tennis/basketball court, swim in a beautiful salt water pool, and pick delicious tomatoes for your evening salad from the vegetable and edible flower garden. I cannot express in words how lovely my stay was...I decompressed from the moment I walked in through the front doors. I felt as though I was an invited and most welcomed guest, rather than someone who was merely renting it for the weekend. Treat this home and property with love and respect because it was built, designed and created with that in mind. The only downside was the melancholy I felt sunday morning having to leave.... Thank you owners for your most gracious hospitality and for contributing to the most relaxing , cozy and delightful weekend I have had in a very long time. Best Regards, K

                              Year Purchased: 2003

About the owner: I'm a partner at Atlas Capital a firm in San Francisco where I specialize in transparent and separately managed accounts driven by the Fama-French academic process . I've recently bought a farm near downtown Sonoma, www.sonomabroadwayfarms.com, to cultivate my passion for sustainable agriculture and community based food sources. I'm married to a lovely pediatrician with whom I share 5 vivacious kids. I love to swim, hike, bike, play basketball and garden. We choose to rent out Raisinwood because our growing kids want to be home with their friends and extra-curricular activities to which they’re committed. We all are already looking forward to our Raisinwood getaway in late August or the fall.

                              Why the Owner Chose Kenwood:
We initially bought Raisinwood in the desirable Kenwood countryside to enjoy as a respite from the city with our small children, friends and family. This is the first time we have listed our property to rent. We favor Kenwood’s convenient proximity to Sonoma Center and distance from the bustle of Napa in addition to the easy access to highway 12, connecting us to the entire region.

The Unique Benefits at this Estate:
It’s a toss up between lounging in the hammock, swimming, playing sports, cooking, and gardening, hiking, biking or visiting the numerous surrounding attractions. The tranquility yet opportunity on our property waxes and wanes as the moon and your moods. I look forward to hearing what part you liked best.
