Oceanfront Farmhouse with Private Beach - Hidden Treasure!

You'll drive up Lydia's Island Road to our much-loved cottage, Presho Farm, at the crest of a hill on five acres overlooking its private beach on Onset Bay. We've added a lot of modern conveniences, and have worked to retain the charm of the original 80+ year old house. People are always surprised to find our little gem off the beaten path.
The house has a large sun room with a view of the water as you enter - our favorite spot to relax! The kitchen has a stacked washer/dryer, microwave, and a dishwasher that is rolled into place to operate. The enclosed sleeping porch is entered off the kitchen; it has a twin bed at one end, and a bunk bed with a twin on top and a full size bed below at the other end. There is a half bath downstairs off the kitchen.
The living room has a flat screen TV with DVD player and a small selection of DVD's. There is WIFI in the house (access code will be provided with the instructions left with your welcome basket).
Upstairs are a full bath, the master bedroom with queen size bed, and a second bedroom with two twin beds.
The house has a large yard perfect for games. The beach is great for swimming, searching for shells, and just relaxing. If you enjoy walking or biking, you can explore the nearby Great Neck Wildlife Santuary. A public golf course is less than a mile away. You can catch a baseball game with the Wareham Gatemen, part of the Cape Cod League. Wareham is perfectly located to allow day trips to Boston, Newport, or Cape Cod. Take the kids to see Plymouth Rock & Plimoth Plantation. We like to stop on the way home at Kyler's in New Bedford for a supply of fresh-caught seafood to hold us over the winter months.
Our family has loved Lydia's Island for more than 70 years. We know you'll love it, too!

We had a wonderful time at Presho Farm. We were surprised when we turned onto the private unpaved road that is Lydia's Island Road -- but we found the house as described at the crest of the hill!! The all-season sun room was delightful -- we ate, read, played games and thoroughly enjoyed that room -- one of us even slept in it on a lounge chair!! Eventhough the weather was a bit on the cold side, we were able to enjoy the small beach and the path past the osprey nest to a longer beach. The third bedroom (originally a porch) was not what we expected so we just closed the door and did not use it. The location was perfect for exploring Boston and Cape Cod. The owner was very helpful with information about the area and called us a couple of times during the week to make sure everything was going well.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, girls getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: Thank you very much, Dianne! I'm so glad you and your friends enjoyed the house, and I hope you'll visit again. All the best to you, Lisa

Thank you so much for sharing your house so others can have a much needed wonderful vacation!!! Anything you need, was already in the house for our use! I spent every morning drinking coffee at the beach and reading, while the rest of my family slept comfortably. Seeing the pictures instantly made me even feel a bit homesick, wanting to go back! The house looked exactly like the pictures. Loved to be so close to Onset. That was definitely a plus! It was great to leave and come home with all of our laundry washed already, so we only had to unpack into our drawers at home! Looking forward to going back next year! This was definitely a hidden treasure!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: Thank you very much, Karen! So glad the house was comfortable for all of you. We'll look forward to your next stay!

Thank you Lisa! We had a truly wonderful time. The location couldn't be better - a great water view from the sun porch, Onset Beach across the inlet and your private beach which is just far enough from the house so we didn;t have to worry about the little ones. The house itself was ideal suited for our group. The screen porch, the living room and large sunroom provided sufficient areas for us older folks to find a relatively quiet spot to relax while our children and their children did their thing. We were impressed with how well stocked the kitchen was. While we routinely travel with corkscrews and favorite knives, everything we needed was there. Washer and dryer? Awesome. The younger crew took advantage of the free children's movie, terrific playground and beach in Onset. Marc Anthony's is quite an experience (ear plugs recommended along with the pepperoni pizza with banana peppers); the candy store next door is a must. Again thanks! Great communication.... a great time. Hope we can return next year.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: Thank you, Bonnie! We love hearing that people enjoy the house and the area as much as we do. Please come back!

My wife and I moved to North Carolina, from Cape Cod 4 years ago. We had a family vacation/ reunion this past week at Presho Farm cottage in Little Harbor area of Wareham. We all had a great time!! The huge yard was a hit with our grandchildren and friends and relatives who stopped by to visit. Being right on the water was great! No need to pack up the car with all kinds of beach "stuff" and young children. We were at our own beach all week long. Exploring, seeing hermit crabs, horseshoe crabs, osprey diving for fish and a family of deer on an early morning walk was a hit. The cottage had lots of character yet all of the modern updates. We will definitely be back. My grandchildren and I rate this property "Awesome with a capital A" Ralph& Judy TocciRecommended for: Age 55+, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: We are so happy that you and your grandchildren enjoyed the house! Thank you very much!

We had a wonderful time at this lovely cottage in a very quiet location just minutes from a Mass Audubon wildlife sanctuary. Our children had a ball playing in the water and discovering sea creatures and the view was beautiful. Very family friendly, big yard, gas grill, well appointed kitchen, washer/ dryer, easy side of the bridge. We loved it!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: Thank you, Gayle! We are glad you and your family will be coming back next year!

About: We've always been a pretty footloose family, moving and traveling where jobs and our hearts took us. Presho Farm is the place we've always come home to. My sister now lives in Sandwich, and regularly cruises over to Wareham with her husband, an accomplished sailor. The rest of us live in upstate New York. We've loved seeing the next generation continue the family tradition of reuniting in our favorite place.
Why Wareham:
Dad used to visit with his best friend's family on Lydia's Island Road as a young boy, and grew to love the area. When he had his own family, he shared it with us. He and Mom were happy when Presho Farm became available.
The Unique Benefits at this Farmhouse:
There's nothing quite like waking early and walking down to the private beach with a fresh cup of coffee to look out across the water and smell the salt air. In the evenings, we like to boil some lobster, open a bottle of wine, and sit in the glassed-in porch with friends. There are wonderful wooded and beach paths in easy walking distance. Across the bay is the bustle of Onset village, with fresh air concerts, ice cream, and fried clams.
